O’Fallon, MO officers have captured four individuals suspected of ambushing and robbing unsuspecting Pokémon Go players. Apparently, they would hang around Pokéstops or use an in-game “lure” function to call players to where they were.

On its Facebook page, the O'Fallon Missouri Police Department said it believes the criminals are using the app — which acts as a kind of AR/GeoCache game — to find players they could target. In other words, bad guys opened up the app, found Pokéstops (locations marked in the game that players can visit to collect various items and sometimes, Pokémon) with nobody around them and ambushed the unsuspecting Pokémon Go players who showed up. It's also possible the suspects could have used the Lure Module (which you can purchase inside the game) to lure players to a specific Pokéstop.

That has got to be fake. Site doesn't seem all that trust worthy either.

I would be if it's not, the amount of people playing it while driving around slowly is ridiculous already. I'm sure it was someone doing that and just going home or to work and was kinda stuck in that play mode and forgot they were on the highway. I'm sure there were at least a dozen crashes ever day due to this, in every state. Just no one is going to admit that's what actually caused the crash.

Edit: perhaps not that big major one the news story that was fake, but normal collision with someone in front or behind you I'm sure there's been a lot in all areas.

The whole internet is jumping on this fake story.

But on topic, this game is just bad bad, all sorts of wrong is going to capitalize on it.

Just for reference. O'Fallon, MO is like fifteen minutes from me. It is about as perfect and suburby as you can get. It's nothing like North County or East St Louis.

And ya.... no shit that traffic accident is fake. There is snow all over in the photo. It is July.

My wife showed me this app while we were leaving a restaurant and there was an add or something for Steak & Shake, which was next door to where we were. It was pictures of their specials and menu. Is this part of the app? These Lure Modules. This sounds like the revenue generating aspect. The more I read about, the more intrusive of an app it seems to be. Potentially you could have people going on to private property, for what??

sigh...the scum of the earth strike again.

Why is this a fad again? I mean I understand my 5 and 10 year old being into pokemon, but Grown fucking adults? Seriously?

Yeah I saw the mugshots of the asshats robbing people at gunpoint, look like typical gangbanger scum. Of course somewhere, someone would say they are just poor innocent teens who dont' know any better.

Want to fix this problem quickly and effectively? Chop off their right hand... yes I'm actually serious. Lot harder to rob or commit a crime when you have a stump. The fact you can shove a gun in someones face, and even if you get caught, nothing really ever happens to these people. They spend some time in jail and then get out and do it all over again.

Next thing you know, adults will be playing video games and reading comic books.

Completely different thing. Just because I'm into video games doesn't mean I like things not aimed at my age demographic.

No cartoons after age 8.

Then when you are grown you can watch South Park. And the Heavy Metal Movie.

Cartoon pussy is the stupidest thing I have pretty much ever seen. Don't understand anime. Seems like cartoon kiddie porn.

People that do this need to be ripped apart by a band of angry silverback gorillas.

Who's to say what the age of demographic they're shooting for is? I'd imagine the demographic is gamers, and since there's a pay shop I'd imagine the developers would love revenue from working adults as well.

So edgy you are.

I don't see how it's edgy to not give a shit what people enjoy. I think the situation is much more of a hypocritical one for people that need to find something to criticize. You're just sitting on your high horse judging others for their preferences.

I haven't played a moment of Pokemon in my life, but it's clear that Nintendo is playing off of nostalgia. Adults that enjoyed this as a kid are going to have fun with it now b/c it's going to be an extension of something they did when young. And in terms of demographic, they are surely aiming for this audience. Young children that initially played Pokemon aren't even going to have smartphones just yet (most anyways).

Says the edgelord thats questioning why people like this. Maybe because it was huge when they were kids, and then slowly moved away from it as they got older and this brings back that same feeling a lot of us did when we were younger first playing pokemon red and blue.
