The new, female-led Ghostbusters film is getting mixed reviews and currently has a 46% top critics score on RT. Will you still check it out this week?

…although the new Ghostbusters follows the template of the original by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, the witless script by Feig and his co-writer on The Heat, Katie Dippold, has no juice. Short on both humor and tension, the spook encounters are rote collisions with vaporous CG specters that escalate into an uninvolving supernatural cataclysm unleashed upon New York's Times Square. It's all busy-ness, noise and chaos, with zero thrills and very little sustainable comic buoyancy.

I personally don't give a shit that the Ghostbusters themselves are now females, I care that Hollywood just have no creativity anymore and can't come up with anything actually new and original and continues to force-feed the viewing public nothing but rehashed trash which is probably what this reboot/remake/whatever they wish to consider it turns out to be. I got no use for it so it'll never be anything I bother with. I took a chance on the Total Recall reboot a few years back, total failure that was compared to the original, took a chance on the Godzilla reboot (since I grew up watching the original Godzilla movies in the 1970s) and couldn't stand it, and so on and so forth.

This will probably make money, unfortunately, but if I keep repeating why people will end up hating me for it (as if some don't already). :D

Never saw original and not going to see this one. Except maybe if the chick from SNL is funny in it. She makes me laugh so hard.

I hate that song so much that my spine bleeds.

Rather not ruin good memories of movies I loved when I was a kid.

I'll skip it.

Misogynist! Go back to your he man woman haters club!

There is NO other reason to not see this movie, the Youtube experts told me.

Damn. It has both chicks I like from SNL. Wiig and Jones. Hmmm. They both make me laugh. Wife wants to see new Star Trek. Double date in separate theatres for the win.

I have a feeling its going to be like Warcraft: critics hate but the general public likes it.

LMK when it hit RABG

It got a better rating than Warcraft Movie, and I liked that movie. I'll judge it myself once I see the movie.

How have you never seen the original?

Not a big movie fan. My faves list is very short. 10 Commandments, A Clockwork Orange, Blue Velvet and The Book of Eli. Some of the Aliens flicks were ok.

To put this in context though, he did say that any band that cannot make a full length rock solid album is not creative. So he does have quite high standards when it comes to the performing arts. And he does have James Cameron in that short list, so I know he has some standing :)

(Anyone that's ok with James Cameron, is ok by me)

A lot of people are going to base their opinions on nostalgia from when they were kids. I just re-watched Ghostbusters because there are a few younger people in the household who I thought should at least know the original before this one dropped in the theatres. It definitely relies on the comedians in a way that modern movies tend not to, but it's not a great movie even by 80s standards.

Same reason the first series was produced... to sell merchandise.

Yep, even the "positive" RT critics are bashing it, im confused. Sounds like its as bad as the trailers made it look. Nothing to do with the women either.

Dr. Lobotomy, sir. Go see the Original Ghostbusters. It's great.

Jumped the gun a bit on this one. Currently at 74% at RT.

Ghostbusters

That'd be the botnet/Indian click-farm. I've noticed a lot of movies tend to get their RT ratings up before their official release only to be driven back down.

I've always assumed it was something fishy as people check RT/Metacritic before seeing a film.

Yep. Pretty much. It really didn't get much better than the chemistry and interaction that you got from the original actors, in addition to outstanding writing. I'm always pulling out Ghostbusters quotes. Even got to meet Dan Aykroyd when he was promoting his Crystal Skull Vodka at a local BevMo.

I can't have crap like that ruined.
