NVIDIA GeForce Game Ready 368.69 WHQL Drivers

There's gotta be a more efficient way of pushing these updates than having me reinstall my drivers every bloody time a game comes out.

Nobody is forcing you to install drivers everytime a game launch, you install if you need or want to play that game if not then you can wait for another driver.. they are game ready driver for a reason, nothing special to see there unless you are facing specific issues with current drivers.

Also how hard or how much time can take to install drivers? since years ago even nvidia drivers doesn't require to unistall previous drivers and not even restart the machine after installation.

They do most of the time.
I update my driver without doing a clean install and play, no reboot needed.
The installation is incredibly hassle free and quick.

Lol, okay. I never said it was hard or that I had to.. All that I said was there has to be a better way.. Like a profile patch or dll update.. Instead of running a 150MB installer every week. Chrome updates without me and so does Firefox. Nvidia can do better.

Every week? More like once a month. Updating drivers for one of the most critical systems on a PC, the video, is MUCH different than a high level application like a web browser. Of updating a PC is a process that's always in need of improvement. No argument there. But it is fairly quick and painless and about once a month and doesn't require a reboot.

Sigh, thank you for the computer lesson. To Nvidia: Make it better. To everyone else: Install away!

I know I should probably use the DDU. Like others I never have used it, have had no issues just installing the drivers. I will admit to having to sometimes hunt down the temp folder that it loves leave with copies of the install files.

I would only update the drivers maybe once a month unless you got a brand new game release. I also always wait around 2 weeks before installing a new driver so others can beta test it. :sneaky:

Depends what has changed.
Also consider that on the fly updating of small components that are potentially in use can have unintended reactions due to complex dependencies.
It may be necessary to unload the driver from memory and make sure all the components are the correct version by re-installing them.
This way there are less problems, you know what forums are like ... ahem ...

To Nvidia: Make it better.

This process has improved tremendously over the years. I never said it was perfect and of course it can improve but it's far from as painful as it used to be.

To everyone else: Install away!

A whole total of five minutes on the sig rig including reinitializing the 3x 1080P Surround . Of course if it were instant that would be better. Again, I don't think you're appreciating how much this process has improved. And it will no doubt become better.

Actually if there were anything I'd like to see improved with the drivers is switching between modes, SLI, Surround, 3D, independent display. The time to switch back and forth between those is FAR more time consuming and troublesome than a once a month 5 minute install.

I'm with you on this. A more automated approach would be nice that only gets the minimal updated files needed. Even better if I could just let it choose the base driver and physx files without the rest of the bloat in the package.

Another thing they need is a setting profile that could be backed up that contains settings for game/color/scaling etc...

The nVidia Control Panel is sooooo old fashioned looking... Maybe one day it will pull its head out of Windows 98's design guidelines ass.

Huge, bloated, cant fit much on the screen, more sub menus, weird colours...
Its tricky presenting that much tech information and options while making it easy to digest and use.

I much prefer small and concise.
Its really quick to get to the option I need and there is no lag. Something AMD need to sort.
Some things could probably be improved due to GPU evolution adding more to the pool.
But its mostly there imo.

You can do this with a custom install. I only ever install the main driver and phsyx. All the 3d vision and HD audio drivers are useless to me so I choose not to install them.

You are right, but I just think there must be lots of functionality that is present in the hardware and drivers, that is just not presented in the control panel.

I would love nVidia to simplify the layout more, make the program use standard Windows API's, but add more functionality to the mix.

And as far as bloated is concerned, the unpacked size of nVidia's current driver is nearly 1GB now. This just seems crazy to me... But hey, I'm not a driver programmer, but I'm pretty sure that drivers for a video card don't need to be such a large sizeable chunk of the installation size of a complete Windows installation.

Just read the release notes. If there is nothing but a profile for a game you don't have, then don't update the driver. There are quite a few fixes in this one for Windows 10, so it's probably a good idea to update to this one if you're on W10.

You say that now, until the auto installer kicks you out of your game while you are streaming, oh wait we got windows updates for that.

I'm having some odd issues with this driver in 3x 1080P Surround. The Kombustor GPU stress test will not display on the rightmost screen, just a black window. Move it to one of the other two screens and it displays properly. Also Doom is causing the driver to crash to the desktop just moments into the game. And there's a weird lag with mouse scrolling and window dragging. All of this issues are 100% reproducible every single time. Went back to the 368.39 and everything looks fine again, none of these issues exist.

First time in a long time I saw severe bugs in a WHQL nVidia driver but I've gamed more in the last month than I have in years with the new hardware. Saw mention of the same issue with Doom in Surround on the nVidia forums. Anyone notice anything like this?
