While this is great and all, why couldn't they have done this from the beginning? It was as simple as putting a "do not notify me again" option on the bottom of the nag screen.

This notification is a reminder that the Window 10 free upgrade offer ends on July 29, 2016. Microsoft recommends that you upgrade to Windows 10 before the offer expires. You can choose to upgrade directly from the notification, dismiss the notification permanently, or choose to be reminded later. For more information about the Windows 10 upgrade and how to manage notifications, see the "More Information" section.

How is it great and all? If people haven't upgraded to windows 10 yet, why the hell would then now want to?

I am running Win 7 on my main gaming rig. I have no problems with my current os. Now that 10 has been out for a while, what do you guys think, should I upgrade. At some point I'm going to have to anyway, but I would probably wait until I build my next rig. If that turns out to be the case, There might even be another OS version out at the rate Microsoft is updating now.

Hey, everyone. I just wanted to let you guys know that the free upgrade period for Windows 10 ends on July 29th. You guys know that, right? July 29th is when it ends. So, remember, that it ends on July 29th. You'd better hurry, or you won't get the free upgrade if you don't act before July 29th. July 29th really is the last chance you'll have, so don't miss it.

July 29th. Remember that date.

My attention span isn't that great. What was the date again? ;)

Do it and then roll back to 7 if you don't like it (within 30 days). At least you'll get the option to upgrade in the future for free (even after the 29th). Just get in on the free upgrade.

I just did a Win10 upgrade for a friend yesterday.

It wasn't working properly because it kept trying to put Windows 10 upgrade stuff on the default recovery partition.

So I deleted the partition, extended the main partition, and did the upgrade.

I then wiped it and did a clean install from a USB stick.

Now no more crapware that was included with the laptop in the first place.

AND I didn't even have to download any drivers manually. Windows update got them all.

Actually pretty impressed with the clean install finding all the drivers automatically.

Interesting if true.

Windows 10 at this point with all the CU applied is pretty rock solid. I would suggest doing it to get the digital entitlement license. Try it out and if you like it, then I highly suggest doing a full wipe and reload using the media creation tool. Any of the upgrades I have done from Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1 have had issues and performance hits. If you don't like it, then you have 30 days to roll back to your Windows 7 Install.

Idk why but ever since XP i have never trusted windows updates installing drivers for my hardware. It seems like they are always out of date or screw something up. I just feel better manually getting them from the manufacture.

In my experience of all our customers and their users that were unawerely upgraded to windows 10 only 1 went back to windows 7, many of them had issues with some settings changed and a few apps not working (i.e. network settings defaulting to public instead of private was a common problem), but in the end pretty much all of them actually prefer windows 10.

Generally I would say the same. This laptop is just has the standard integrated graphics, etc, so I was not too worried about it.

I turn off the MS driver update on all my machines.

Why not upgrade and keep the serial in case you want to upgrade in the future? Cuz, you know, free and such.

I am [H]ardcore so I am going to wait until very late in the day of the 28th then swoop in and grab it in the last seconds. Off the grid and all so yeah you got to stay tuff on these things.

I've been putting it off until the last minute as well, as I need to replace my old external hd. In terms of OS, I believe in only fixing things that are broken, and 7 works fine. Now, I try to stay ahead of the game with storage.

Better ill will than no will at all. Way to go Microsoft.

Free, really free. That's not a reason, that's a sales pitch.
Like my grandmother always said, if there is no strings attached there's chains.

Your opinion on Windows 10 is frankly irrelevant here. My entire point was he can get the serial for free now while he still can, or he can wait and pay the $100+ later. I'm strictly talking about money here. Not the moral and ethical implications of your opinion on the OS.

I've been nothing but happy with 10 so far.

I wouldn't wait until the night before it ends in case everyone else does that and the servers are slammed.

Huh, i didn't know that. guess ill do this.

I've heard mixed things about windows 10 on surface pro 2 the last time i asked (6 months ago?)

"Upgraded" the wife's compy to Win10. No thanks, I'll keep Win7 as long as I possibly can. I do not like the UI at all and whole interface feels counterintuitive to me. Here's looking forward to Win11 I suppose.

I think he was talking about the "never ask again" button. Who knows if that actually works or not. It probably just assumes you hit it on accident and really meant to hit "upgrade now".

It's a good OS. If you like 7 then you'll like 10. If you're going to upgrade then I'd suggest getting rid of as much telemetry as you can. Look for the Ultimate Windows Tweaker, which I think was recommended by Kyle, or Spybot Beacon. Both are good programs.

I call bullshit on that, based on my own experience. I upgraded to 10 too, and didn't go back to 7, but not because I prefer it. I was able to make it look and feel borderline acceptable with 3rd party tools, and tweaks. And I just don't want to spend the time on re-installing windows unless it's absolutely necessary. But I still think it looks much worse, it's annoying, updates can't be deferred, and who knows what other shenanigans it has going on with telemetry.

So just because someone doesn't run back to 7 immediately after trying 10 doesn't mean they actually prefer it.

It wil probably work like this:

- Pushes don't show me again button
- Are You sure windows 10 is great?
- Yes I'm sure
- Are you aware this is your last chance to get Windows 10 for free
- Yes
- But do you know you are skipping all those great features (plays 20 minutes long marketing presentation that cannot be skipped)

That is because WinXP was pretty much shit at everything, especially drivers, security and memory management. Every single MS OS after XP has been infinitely better at all of those things. I wouldn't trust XP to do anything by itself and not screw everything up either. Anyone who says XP wasn't one of the worst OSes Ms ever shit out clearly never had to support that crap for years. Just an awful OS all around, no idea why people clung to that turd for so long.

now they are sorry to interrupt ?? after a year of being total cunts, i wonder if it is because someone sued them and won.

Greater support for drivers software and other stuff? We're only what a year out from its original release? We're just now in the late stages of early adoption when it comes to MS desktop OS's.

And I call bullshit on you. We support just over 2500 (had to get another 100 Kaseya licenses last week) end machines, 2200+ which are not servers or the few damn macs we support, and we've been trying to get as many customers to 10 as we can. Hell just myself I've probably done about 40-50 myself in the last 2-3 months, and over the past year only one user has rolled back, even though we have to offer it to each customer individually. Most users, even the old office ladies, learn to like it once they get over their own misconceptions and bullshit they hear online and from friends. Once they try and actually spend the 15 minutes to figure it out it goes pretty smooth, and for all you people bitching about change damn near every old window and control is still there. Just type into the search box if you don't where something is and realize things change over time instead of complaining about it for a whole year on the forums.

You can't call bullshit on someone's views Those are my views, they are based on my experience. On the other hand you have no way of proving that your office workers really like W10, or just don't give a shit, they simply adopt, rather than be confrontational.

Learn to like it, sounds kind of forced doesn't it? I've dealt with many old office workers, and "Like" is not a word I'd use with any of them in the context of computers. They accept change, they learn new things, but they never like it, they never liked the old one either, they just got used to it. Sorry but since when is the opinion or acceptance of clueless office workers considered to be factual evidence of W10s superiority? It's anecdotal evidence, and if all the office workers would come at me and say we like W10, that'd still not make me change my view on W10.

Well, I can say that other than the update been forced I've had zero complaints so far.

BTW I never did any tweak or mod to make windows 10 "acceptable". It's fine for me as it is.

Neither can you...

Seems like you never did TI, users are very vocal about what they don't like. I can't count all the complaints I received from the forced update. People were making fun of the ones that were forced at first, then it happened to all of them. Men those were busy days. Anyway once the dust settled there were no more complaints. Ok I take that back, they still bitch, but at least not about the OS.
