HDMI question

my wife bought us a 4k vizio M65-C1. There's 5 HDMI ports but only one shows 4k@60p all the rest are 4k@30p. What is 60p/30p? is that the same as 60/30hz? I cant seem to get my pc to run at 60hz when plugged into that port. Sorry for the dumb questions but I've been so excited about it. Also are there HDMI 2.0 spec cables or am I good to use a displayport to HDMI adapter?

60p is 60hz. You do need an HDMI 2.0 cable for 4k at 60hz, and you would also need a video card with HDMI 2.0 out. Looking at the list of PCs in your sig, none of them have video cards that support HDMI 2.0. If I remember correctly, from Nvidia the 960 and above support 2.0, as do the new 1070/1080. AMD's RX 480 also supports 2.0.

I think a DP to HDMI adapter would work at 60hz, so long as it is HDMI 2.0. I believe Club3D makes one that's DP 1.2 to HDMI 2.0.

Right now I've got a 7970 crossfire setup with a mini DP to HDMI connection running to the tv from the PC. I do have a 960 4gb SSC and a R9 290 I can try though. and I dont even really know what this 4:4:4 is so I doubt I would notice. I do see that club 3d makes a mini DP to HDMI2.0 adapter though. I think Ill check that out too.

The 7970 and R9 290 support DisplayPort 1.2, which can do 3840x2160 @ 60Hz, so with the right DP to HDMI adapter you could do that resolution. Not too sure on which one you'd need but when I used the Club3D DP 1.2 to HDMI 2.0 adapter, I could do 3840x2160 @ 60Hz 4:4:4 with the R9 290.

The GTX 960 supports HDMI 2.0 natively. You should be able to do 60Hz on that specific port simply by connecting it directly to the TV.

4:4:4 is an indication of how much color information is transferred per pixel group. It's one of the chroma subsampling types. See here and here for more info. The M65-C1 supports up to 4:2:2 at most at 3840x2160 60Hz.

There is no such thing as an "HDMI 2.0" cable. HDMI will not license the cable if it is advertised this way. Cables that support 4K/60 are certified as "High Speed" or "Premium High Speed."

It's funny reading that thread. As far as I know the HDMI forum has always provided guides on the maximum length to ensure proper display of a given resolution, but the advertising metrics were not there to inform uneducated consumers that are shopping for cables. But they also failed in their generic statement to manufacturers that all 1.4b cables meet the specifications required for HDMI 2.0. In no way would I expect 4K/60 4:4:4 over a 10 metre run of cable like the first post on page 2 of the AVS forum.

Guys thanks a bunch for the help. I was able to play GTAV @ 4k but it was stuck to 30fps. I cant wait to get this fixed.
