Forza Horizon 3

Huh, wonder if this is at all related to the Forza beta currently in the Windows Store. Been playing that a bit here and there.
Though last I played it (3-4 days ago) it was looking for a very specific driver and complained that I wasn't running it. (was running a higher version than what it was looking for)

It's part of Microsoft's "Play Anywhere" business strategy, where buying a game once for Xbox ONE or Windows 10 allows you to play it on both platforms.

I haven't heard of anything else being cross purchase other than the quantum break preorder. But I would love for that to become the norm

I'm looking forward to this. I loved playing Forza on my 360 but couldn't justify plopping down for the Xbone for just a couple of games.

Hopefully they will support any PC compatible wheel instead of the one or two supported on xbox

All Play Anywhere games are going to be cross-buy. All of MS' first-party titles shown at E3 are Play Anywhere titles. So Gears 4, Dead Rising 4, Sea of Thieves, this game, Scalebound, and so on will have cross-buy and cross-save. Some (maybe all?) will also have cross-play.

Forza Horizons 2 was really fun, but it ran at 30fps and the whole time I found myself saying "Wish I was running this on my PC". I'd probably buy FH3, and I think this new initiative MS has to release on both PC and Xbox is mostly a good thing.

If that holds true, that will be down right awesome. I can't always use my Xbox, and I cant always use the PC, and with some games I outright question which platform will provide a more enjoyable experience. This solves all those issues.

Hopefully the fan boys for both platforms wont ruin it for the rest.of us

Yeah. I hope it works out well enough for them that they are pushed to keep updating UWP as well as to continue releasing first-party games on the PC. I'd still be down for a PC version of Halo: MCC.

You like complaining about Win10 or are you genuinely surprised? Still can get a free upgrade for another 30+ days.
Na once MS said they would bring all their exclusives to PC i knew it was just another ploy to get people to upgrade to 10. I dont want 10 even if its free.

Its really not that serious. just get windows 10. Are you still using xp?

Nope im on 7. I dont like the look of 10 or its extra "features". Why upgrade to it when 7 does everything i need it to do. Even if i had 10 i still wouldnt get these games because you have to use their crappy store to play it. Having steam, origin, uplay is already enough, i dont need another damn platform to play games on.

Not even the platform which is by the company that made the OS??? hmmmmm

^^^^ EXACTLY the type of person I expected to eventually post in this thread. They complain and rant about Microsoft, but the same reason they haven't switched to 'nix/IOS is the same reason they refuse to upgrade to 10 - because they can't learn new things, and if they try to, it's shocking and overwhelming, so they avoid it and make complaints instead.

Or because the new things aren't better at all in most cases way worse. Most changes are for sake of change. Something like having windows updates being linked to your game updates is completely fucking retarded.

Not to get on you nvgrim but I thought we were past the days of people not liking the latest M$ os since vista. I work for the state, and the only reason why we delay using the latest OS's is because of compatibility issues with our legacy software. So currently our standard is windows 7. And we have a few boxes with xp, strictly because of these special software that will play nice with our new images/hardware/os's. Being a techy person, i always want the latest and newest, and also i get paid to know how to use and navigate it.

I've been having a blast with the beta and look forward to FH3. Trailer looks exciting with the different vehicle types available. Gears 4 is another game that is part of the initiative. I'm cool with it since my Son has XB1 it's a win/win situation. Basically 2 games for one. Hopefully the PC versions of said games are optimized.

Yeah, for sure, the massive upgrades to SMB in Win8.1+ is pretty much just a change they felt like making over Windows 7 and doesn't really affect much.

Yall act like i havent tried it, i have. I used the free upgrade on my laptop just to try it out and i dont really like the "flat" look and the extra addons like the store (which i would never use besides MS games), cortana , MetroUI, and the tiles are all useless to me. Windows 7 does exactly what i need my PC to do. Play music, games, porn, browse the web, music production, etc. And Win 10 offers nothing more that i need to upgrade to it. Im just a little irked that for years and years PC gamers asked for forza and other MS titles to come to PC and MS just blew us off untill they realized another way they can get people to move to Win 10 and thats offer all the newest titles on XB1 and PC. "MS loves pc gamers guys!"

Is there a technical reason a UWP wrapped program could not run on win7/DX11? I thought there was some fundamental changes to the APIs and hardware calls that allowed UWP to work in the first place.

UWP doesn't work on anything less than Windows 10:
Develop apps for the Universal Windows Platform (UWP)

People saying MS should bring Play Anywhere titles to anything less than W10 have no idea what they are talking about because it's simply not possible. The foundations that make Play Anywhere a possibility do not exist in versions of Windows before 10.

If Play Anywhere isn't reason enough for gamers to upgrade to W10, I have no idea what else Microsoft could even do, short of simply giving the games away for free to anyone with W10. It's a big deal to be able to buy games on XB1 and play them on PC, or vice-versa. AFAIK, Valve is the only other company to do this recently, with the PS3 version of Portal 2.

I dont own an XB1 so play anywhere doesnt help me. The thing is they could have release these games on steam years ago but now that they have a dumbass store built into their new OS they saw another way to get people to jump on aboard to Win 10. I never asked them to give away games for free, i would have gladly paid $60 for forza if it was released on steam. MS is trying to play catch up to the digital purchase store and its too late because if there is a game on steam and the win 10 store no one is going to buy the Win store version.

Years ago? These are flagship titles for the XB1. It's already a huge concession that they're coming to PC at all. Expecting them to come to PC first, years ahead of an XB1 launch is just moronic.

I haven't used the Windows Store that much, but in my experience, it's not that bad. Certainly not bad enough that I would want to pay $60 for a game on Steam if I could get it for free from the Windows Store...

In any case, I don't see how this any part of this is negative for Forza. PC gamers are going to get a Forza game at launch that's the same as the XB1 version, and that's awesome.

M$ is not gonna put THEIR game on steam. Its Their game. If you don't care for forza or dont even own an xb1 then so be it. But for owners of an xb1 this is pretty great news. Also as far as M$ catching up with digital purchases, they have been doing this since the xbox 360s years ago. They are now deciding to get their hands dirty in the pc gaming arena.

Cool. Then do what i do and dual boot Windows 10 for the game. I use windows 10 for playing Forza 6 Apex only. I boot back to windows 7 for everything else because they eliminated stuff i need thats in windows 7.

people need to remember that this isn't buy one get one free. you buy it on ONE ACCOUNT and can use it on two different devices with that SAME ACCOUNT. the games are tied to you xbox account. you purchase a game via windows store and it ties to your xbox account, then you go to your xbox one, login to the SAME account and have access to the game and saves/progress. you cannot use two different accounts to play the same game for free multiplayer.
re optimization, they really need to get that straight BEFORE releasing games. otherwise it will be like GOW and QB needing major updates to get them working correctly. just delay release until it works right dammit!

of course. Because when you log in with your live account, you can only be online one device at a time. Now the beauty of that is if you have multiple xb1s, it is like buy one get one free tho. I have forza 6, and my son and i play it all the time simultaneously. His xb1 in his room is my home console (console license) so anyone can play my digital purchases. And my second xb1 is in the living room, and as long as im logged in anyone can play it (user license). I am more than sure that can still be done. Any game you buy, M$ gives you a console license and a user license. I have bought at least 10 games digitally that is played between my son and i. no problems. And we play battlefield online all the time.

really?! you can purchase the game once but use it on two different consoles with two different accounts logged in? that's news to me and if so that is pretty damn cool!

Forza has been out for a while and so has GoW, yet they never came to pc untill Win 10 store was created.

Yes, i mentioned it in the console gaming thread a few weeks back. M$ has been allowing this for years, even back to the 360. Every digital purchase (even xbox live gold subscriptions) comes with two licenses (console, and user). The console license allows anyone playing on that console to play that game with their xbox own live account. The user license allows the owner of that game to play the game on any console as long as they are logged in. So in my home my sons xb1 in his room is my home console. So any digital purchase i make, he can play using his xbox live tag. Also he can play online because my gold account is tied to that console. So i dont have to pay for two live gold subscriptions.
And i can still play on my living room console whenever i please when i log on, using my user license. So, yes my son and i can squad up on bf4, hardline, halo, whatever at the same time. When my nephew comes over he can hop on my son console and play with his live account. He, and my son also know that if they want to play anything in the living room, they must first log in as me, then log in as themselves to play any games. As long as i am logged in on any console, they can play all of my games, even online. I love it because it saves me from buying two of the same games, or live subscriptions and shit. And i dont have to wait til he finish a games and share with him. It is literally two for one. Even better, when my son goes to his grandparents house, or any other home, same rules still apply. I love it and which is why i stick with M$ gaming systems.

UWP didn't exist before Windows 10. The store has been around since Windows 8 without any significant changes. It's not the store that makes any of this possible, it's UWP.

You are missing my point, the forza franchise has been out before even Win 7 and for every iteration of the game people asked for a pc version, they even showed a demo of dx 11 or 12 years ago with forza as the demo on pc so it's not like it couldn't have been done. They probably never planned to release them on pc untill they realized if they release them only on their store people would have another reason to move to Win 10. Its whatever doesn't really both me since the last few forza's haven't been that great due to microtransactions. Forza 3 is still the best.

Sorry, 6 is better than 4 and that was better than 3. 4 offered everything 3 had but with more cars, more track configs and better lighting. It also brought us Clarkson's commentary. 3 was good, better than 5 really, but it was eclipsed.
