So hipacritly, if you accepted the win10 upgrade, did the "fresh install option", and decided you wanted to go back to win7 in the future, how would you do it? Can you use any normal win7 install media and grab the key from win10 before you blow it away? Do you have to call in and give the robot your win10 key?

I recommend imaging the windows 7 system using acronis or some other imaging software. Then doing the upgrade activating then reverting back to the image.

Lets say you already wiped it out and did a clean install. there is no way that I no to go back to windows 7 without a windows 7 key. There are downgrade right but they still require a key (I know it's stupid).

I'm more curious what hipacritly means? :)

Did you mean 'hypothetically'?
Nah, if i want to be a hipacrit and go back to a 7 year old Os, how could i do it :)

I survived vista 64 pre sp1....
Ah the days of coming out of sleep and half the hds are missing...

From a technical standpoint if you accept the free upgrade offer to Windows 10 from Microsoft you surrender the Windows 7/8/8.1 license to do it. Yes they allow you to roll back to that license within 30 days but after that they technically could revoke the activation of the Windows 7 license past the 30 day point. They do keep track of all this info, you know, it's just bits of data back and forth stored on their servers nowadays tying the license to a given machine, if it shows an upgrade to Windows 10 it literally could - but probably doesn't - start a timer of sorts that ticks down till that 30 day window closes and after that then the Windows 7/8/8.1 license won't activate anymore.

Of course they don't go nearly that far with things, but always remember that they could and they'd be within their rights to do it.

Just sayin'... ;)
