Dark Souls 3

supposedly you can beat the game with the short bow. unlike the others it can shoot out of a roll and so forth.

While certainly not exclusively, I used a Dragonrider Bow quite a bit. It's notoriously slow, but I'm used to the timing since I used it in the 2nd game, too. Prior to finding it, I used a shortbow for the first half of the game. Since you can roll like mad in this game, getting away from bosses and playing the distance game isn't too bad.

Bleed is ridiculous in this game, wish I knew about it more earlier on... didn't really bother much until very late game.... I might NG a high luck bleeder type.

I've been bleed building since release on 5 playthroughs. It took me forever to figure out how to make it work effectively. Now with all the testing that has been done I know how it works. I might try a heavier build soon though with a big weapon, I need a change. 180hours of bleed build gets repetitive. Been considering doing a poison+pyro build though as well.

Can't say I've dabbled with bleeding effects in any of the DS games. How does it work exactly and what weapons do you recommend?

some weapons have bleed build up, Flamberge being a good example @ 33/hit. Once it passes an enemies bleed tolerance it whacks away 18% of health. Some enemies are weaker to bleed than others, I think like that alligator rat thing.

From what I've seen on wiki, the corvian scythe is the best bleed weapon. And bleed works like maggots, where a bar builds up and then you suffer a massive hit from bloodlost. Using a katana is actually pretty good as well, but I don't know how it compares with most other weapons. Seems like luck affects it, and people suggest hollowing with hollow gem for luck over blood gem which adds 5 bleed to weapon.

I think I'm going for sharp claws and daggers with high luck and dex. No idea how well that'll go though.

How long does it typically take to kick-in and is it obvious when it does (in PvP)? I can picture hitting someone once, running like hell, and then charging in right as the effect kicks in.

I don't do PVP =/ but when it kicks in, you see a big blood splatter so pretty obvious for the most part. You have to hit continuously for it to kick in, it doesn't build up automatically, it only happens once it's built up form your attacks.

the bleed bar works the same as in DS2...the Corvian Scythe also damages the person wielding it which is something to remember

If you have the stats to invest, Anri's Straight Sword is really good as it scales with luck. Anri's also has low stats requirements, but most SL120 PvP'ers are going to be dumping points into STR, DEX and LCK for an Anri build. The luck investment also synergizes with bleed (why I mention it), making bleed something of a bonus (Anri's naturally has good base damage anyway) assuming you stock up on some Carthus Rouge.

Does Carthus Rouge get affected by luck, I wouldn't think so. It's a good luck weapon but not so much a bleed weapon. Indeed the Corvian Scythe has that issue... still, I wonder how it plays out in combat, since I never used it.

Its the switching back and forth between ranged and 2h that screws me over most of the time....

That actually gave me troubles too, but i just started my bleed character, as a thief. He starts off with a bow on the offhand. This actually seems to be wonderful for this very issue. Pressing F twice kicks it from bow to 2 hands. From 2 hands, you have to press f then right click though.

After thinking about it again, I'm not so sure now. A little research from here actually creates more questions than answers:
Luck has the effect of increasing bleed aux value on weapons, thus increasing the rate of bleed buildup. Luck has no additional hidden effect on bleed, the increase of bleed aux value is the only effect of luck on bleed.
Carthus Rouge can be used to increase bleed build up by ( approximately 45, untested value )

It's not clear to me if the luck bonus applies to non-bleed weapons enhanced with Carthus Rouge. Obviously Anri's has a 0 bleed aux value until you apply CR to it (then it becomes a temporary ~45 value). The question is, once a weapon's attacks start contributing to bleed status does the luck bonus always apply? Seems someone would have tested this by now.

Bleed damage isn't exactly reliable damage. It's percentage based and proc'ing it requires multiple hits within a time window. It's a good way to keep someone on their toes in PvP though.

Don't know about PVP, but those 2 sulyvan's beasts were giving me a hell lot of trouble. But when I used a carthage rouge on my katana, I instantly killed it. 1 Heavy hit, into riposte = one dead Sulyvahn's Beast.

I'm glad I'm not the only one!

I haven't messed with it beyond just trying out the moveset, but I read on another forum that the Lothric Knight Greatsword is a pretty killer weapon. It always hits with lightning, but I guess it can be infused further and it does massive damage.

reading the last few pages of this thread about all the different amazing weapons, armor and builds really makes me appreciate the game even more over Bloodborne's limited build options...although BB is still right up there with DS1/DS3 as far as best 'Souls' game

+9 bandit dagger is not doing it for me >_> I can bleed a hell out of stuff but the range/sweep makes it hard to fight groups and the lack of poise damage can get you killed.

One of the neatest things about the Souls games is that you do have so many strategic options. Not every weapon/spell is great, but it does seem like most can range from serviceable to awesome depending on your upgrade path, stats, and playstyle.

I enjoyed Bloodborne, but I feel that there are only about a dozen realistic builds and probably less than 25 stylistic approaches to the game.

For bleeding you would want the dagger in your left hand with bleed infusion. Then use a hollow weapon in the right or something like Anri's sword, then apply Carthus Rouge to that. Proc bleed with left hand then Build up with right, you can do up to around 28% bleed damage per proc, forgot the exact numbers... since I've been playing sorcery lately.

After you see the explosion always restab them a few times with the dagger, then keep beating to a pulp with the main hand.

Actually, after I said that, I started playing today and yesterday and I'm doing really good. Haven't died to an enemy yet.

This new patch has made my stuttering worse in this game. Anyone else seeing the same thing? What I mean by stuttering is the game will be running at 60 fps, then all of a sudden, will drop down to 58 and then shoot back up to 60 fps all in the span of a second, thereby causing the game to stutter/hitch. Now, the drops are far more severe, as I've actually seen it drop all the way down to 48 or so.

Man, I was dominating for a while, though I have died to falls >_> but then the npc invader in untended graves killed me 3 times.

Great, so they brought the stuttering back. Feels like no one at From does play-testing on these patches.

It was never fixed for me. I've always had it since I bought it a month ago. :( It's not freezing like it was like two patches ago or so, but the microstuttering is pretty bad in certain spots.

No issues on my end. I made a couple quick runs through familiar spots and didn't encounter any of the pausing from last month's patch. Prior to and after they fixed it the game has run like a dream for me.

Dark Souls 3's final boss on NG+7 at Soul Level 1, no armour and only using a torch as a weapon...some people have way too much time on their hands...

No kidding, if that's true. That seems like it's way overboard with the limitation difficulty.

I started a SL1, got as far as pontiff. Not sure I want to go further, difficulty really ramps up and it becomes a heavy time investment. For dude in the video, that is 23 minutes. That is a long ass boss fight.

Dam...definitely not for me. I don't even want to go to NG+ cause it might take me a little longer to beat stuff down. I finished 2 characters already both NG characters.

NG+ is not that bad. In DS1 there is a huge jump from NG to NG+, the enemies have about 2x health. From there it increases to about 3x health at NG+7. DS2 & 3 there is a much smoother linear progression in comparison

When boss fights (of any sort) go over 4-5 minutes, I tend to get fed up. The concept of a 23 minute boss fight sounds like torture to me.

NG+ usually isn't too bad in the older games. After all, you know the game better and your stats/gear are a hell of a lot better. In DS2, the game might actually be easier in NG+. You're able to boost your stats up enough to rock the Havel set full-time much easier and you can respec nearly at will. However those DLC levels are absolute torture. Dark Souls 1 eventually gets pretty rough in NG+, but it's only the last 1/3 and DLC areas.

23 minutes is probably how long it took me to beat Ornstein and Smough during my early Dark Souls 1 days...those were some long battles...

That's like the exact opposite for me :p
That's a fight I tend to either win quickly or just lose. I doubt I've ever won that fight in over 3-4 minutes. Too much room for error, so I tend to lower the boom on the first one in the first 20-25 seconds. From there, the next 2-3 minutes are a 1-on-1 fight.
I think the one fight I tend to take a while with is Kalameet. Mainly because it's fairly easy if you play it a certain way and I'm always trying to get the tail drop weapon. I've stretched that fight into a 25 minute affair trying to hit his damn tail.
