I bought an LG 34UM95 off a user on here, and he said it was in great shape. Well, when I received it, it was dirty, and was missing the stand screws (which he admitted later he left them on the table and forgot to include them). I ordered replacements from LG.

Now the big issue. The monitor has done this at least 5 times since I got it a few days ago. It makes a loud pop and then the screen has a bar/line going across it when that happens and returns back to normal very quickly. I googled this issue and it seems to be a common issue with this model when the board is acting up. Not sure if there is a trick about stopping it other than I see some people say turn off DisplayPort 1.2 in the settings on the monitor and that may fix it. Don't I want that on?

What should I do? I have never had a bad transaction from someone on this site, and now this happened. I spent $400 bucks on this and I doubt he has the money to refund it since he was saving up for a car which he bought.

Either it was a bum sale or damaged in shipping. Hope you paid for shipping insurance.

Contacted the seller? I have the same monitor and have never seen this (knock on wood) issue.

Yes, no response yet. Not sure what he is willing to do anyways. If you google it, it is a very well known issue. Flickering/popping noise with LG34UM95.

How did you pay for it? I would wait on a response from the seller for a couple of days and then dispute it if you don't get satisfaction. The monitor is defective and if that wasn't disclosed you are owed a refund.

Looks like turning off DP 1.2 setting fixed the issue. It's related to some firmware possibly. I don't see any difference with it enabled or disabled.

I paid by paypal. He got back to me and said he is willing to work it out. I think he is waiting for me to tell him what I want him to do. But turning this off fixed it? It wasn't disclosed. But I am unsure if it is defective? Works with that setting turned off.

Sounds like you tracked down the issue. It's up to you on whether you are willing to accept the DP 1.2 fix. You might want to check the LG site to see if they have a fix posted. However, the monitor isn't fully functional and only you can decide if it's acceptable as is.

Wow, that is a nice monitor. If it were me, I would be OK with it myself. You got it for less than half price and it's working fine with the workaround.

Agreed. It is a super sharp panel, and I only wanted it for a short time till some newer GSYNC ones that are curved came out that have better QC and I would switch to one of those. Probably when I do my whole system again.

As a seller I never spend the money until the buyer is satisfied. Maybe thats why I have never had any issues and have great heat. Regardless, if you were sold something that was different than advertised, you are entitled to your money back regardless.

Did the seller have pictures of the item before you paid for it showing condition?

I'd ask for a portion back, to cover the missing screws and the not as promisued condition (10% back or whatever) and call it a happy day

Yes a couple of pictures but not very good ones. If the monitor doesn't do that stuff again, I am fine with what I paid since it was pretty cheap as it was for the price he was selling it for. Screws were $7 bucks shipped. And cleaning it up was not an issue.

Sounds like you're happy and the seller should be happy. Probably time to close the book on this one.

I would just ask for the money back for the cost of the screws and maybe a few bucks for cleaning. If you paid way under for a screen with a known issue though and you knew about going into the sale then you should be good otherwise.

I got the new screws in already, and like I mentioned before, it wasn't ever mentioned it had this issue so I am unsure he really knew. It's a done deal.

When something doesn't work it might be just one of many issues to pole its head over time. My personal policy when buying anything used online and it doesn't work as described is to ask the seller to let me send it back for a full refund. I always eat the return shipping since its the understood risk when buying used online.
