[H]ard Sff Club

I built a little Sugo 13 build for travel, while on travel, in my hotel room. I got the idea off this forum to hook up a desktop the the hotel TV. Brilliant! I'll probably rebuild when I get my Osmi case and retire this to the home TV and/or NVidia shield (for the kids). The sugo is a nice little case for $40.

I learned the best way to do a SFF build is CPU -> cooler -> install mobo -> install rad -> front panel wires -> power wires -> install power supply -> install GFX card.

4690k/970 Turbo/240GB SSD/500 SFX-L

I liked how you could slide in the graphics card from the front.

It booted!

I'm using the following:

i7 4790k
Asus Maximus Impact VI
2x8GB low profile Crucial DDR3L at 1600Mhz
Nvidia Geforce GTX 780Ti
Samsung 840 Pro 512GB
ADATA SP900 128GB
Seagate 4TB HDD
a Pioneer slim (laptop style) optical drive

I've gone the tried and tested air cooling route: Corsair case fans all around and a Noctua NH-L12 for the CPU with a push-pull setup (120mm and 90mm fans).

I used my s1366 rig's 1KW Corsair PSU (overkill, I know, but it fit perfectly inside the little Corsair case and it just works!).

I kept the Elite 130 case and I'm itching for another ITX build - perhaps AMD flavored... We 'll see.:)

May I ask what Pioneer optical drive that is and the other portion in the area?...I like the setup and would like to do something similar with my 250D

My new rig, an upgrade from my Xeon 5450/LGA 775 system I've had forever.

I guess I'm joining the SFF club, traded in my full tower for SFF as my New York City apartment is too small for a full tower. So here goes, my Cougar QBX with a R9 290, a Noctua C14, and a Corsair HX620 PSU. You might be wondering how did he fit a 140mm Noctua in there? you're right , it doesn't fit, barely. As you can see the rear power plug is not sitting in the socket, I will need to swap this for a Noctua NH-L12 later. You're also thinking, how did he fit a HX620 which is a 150mm depth psu in the case that was made for a 140mm psu? I modded the case a little, cutting off the lower flange allowed the case to fit this psu.

Next to my full tower for comparison

I made the switch a few months ago to a nice Lian Li SFF / EVGA GTC 980ti, Intel i5 6600k, ASRock Z170, Samsung 850 EVO 500GB, Lian Li PC-O5SX, 2x Noctua NF-F12, 8gb 2400 DDR4, Silverstone SX600, 1x Noctua NF-A14 and the beautiful Swiftech H220

So it's the cooler itself blocking the power plug, not the fan?

I'm surprised you didn't take the opportunity to get a nice modular SFX or SFX-L PSU.

Yes it was the cooler itself blocking the power plug from the inside of the case. After swapping it for the Noctua NH-L12 it fits fine.

I opted not to use a SFX psu as I had issues with noise and QC from Silverstone in the past. The next best thing was to mod the case itself with a hand nibbler tool.

I finally join the true PC Master race guys. Feels good to be here! 4.1GHZ (4.098 :( close enough) 5930K and a R9 390X soon to be upgraded to whichever next gen GPU earns its spot to replace it!

Built this a while ago, great case to build in. Now I just need a water cooled Pascal card to throw in it

That 450W Silverstone PSU is beefy enough to power that video card? I hear the gtx 680 needs a 550W psu, maybe cause its a mini itx mobo.

Never really had issues with it, at the time it was really the only option. I have even OC'ed the CPU/680.

Finally, I'm in the club! :)

sorry for the potato quality pic

Since I have to move soon I finally ended up finishing out the mods for my EVGA Hadron Air.

Ended up installing a 2.5" dual hotswap bay to 3.5" adapter and facing the front end of the bay where the 1U PSU used to be so I can swap out the SSDs in my system without needing to open the case.

Had a GTX 580 OC in there before, replaced with a nice (and much cooler) GTX 970 ITX OC.

Well, if the system in my sig counts... I'll post up a couple of photos. I just finished it 3 weeks ago.

The case is an itx case by name only, seems large compared to others in this thread. I had to make sure what I already had would fit so I didn't take any chances going smaller.

Beautiful work. I keep toying with the idea of making a Hackintosh box

Thanks :D

I was also toying with the idea for a few years actually...Recently, I just decided to do it. With all the amazing guides out there, it wasn't difficult at all. The most 'difficult' part was getting my hands on a Mac to start the whole process (No one I know owns one). I ended up just buying a Macbook to start the process and then returned it a few days later...

Why would you need a Mac? Every one I've made never required one to start with.

Let me rephrase that...There are ways to do it without a mac (Niresh or set up a Mac Virtual Machine, for example). However, since the more 'popular' and tested guides at the time used a Mac, I decided to go that route.

Oh, I just used a virtual machine to export the latest disk image. It was super simple. (probably a lot faster than buying a Mac and returning it lol)

Yeh definitely a lot faster...LOL. The guide I used even had the same motherboard with all the little hackintosh hiccups all figured out. For a first timer, using it was a no brainer LOL

The next one I do (or two..I have a couple people who want me to build one for them), I'll definitely use one (or both) of the aforementioned methods. I like to try different ways to do things.
