What do you do when everyone seems to be hating on the trailer for the next installment in the CoD franchise? Just roll with the punches like Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg did. The trailer in question has almost 9.2M views, 200k likes and an astonishing 453k dislikes.

On the second part of your question related to Infinite Warfare, first of all you got to love the passion of gamers. This is an industry like no other, and a fan base like no other and we love that our fans treat this franchise like it’s their own and have such strong points of view about it. There just aren’t many entertainment franchises on Earth that can generate the kind of passion that Call of Duty can and that’s a good thing.

meh.... and it'll probably still go on to break sales records

COD has lot of haters.

I figured it was just a bunch of misogynists disliking the trailer as part of a concerted effort of an army of anti women gamers attempting to prop up the stereotypical patriarchy of what people find to be the acceptable norm in the gaming industry.

Wait, that's not the reason things get disliked on the internet? Damn.

It'll give the new Ghostbusters movie some dislike competition!

I love the way CEOs pander to the consumers.
"First of all you gotta love the passion of gamers"

I wonder why people don't call people out, especially politicians when they do shit like that. Hillary Clinton does this shit constantly. She talks like a southerner when she is giving a speech in the south. Puts on a boston accent here, a newyorker here blah blah. I would love to see someone right there tell her how insulting and bigoted she really is.

hah - what a tired piece of shit. I think the last CoD I bought was Black ops 1 and it was okay.

They still using the highly modified engine that can trace it's way back to the quake days?

COD has been on the downslide since the first couple. Some decent gameplay in some versions, but massively overrated and typically short single player campaigns. I always preferred the Medal of Honor series.

Even though the armed forces are starting to induct females into front line infantry, they are at a SEVERE disadvantage. A fit female is carrying a much larger additional percentage of her total body mass into combat making her more likely to suffer fatigue/slow reaction times.

Nothing personal, but if I'm going into front line battle, I want Arnold next to me.

Now having a female as a sniper is a different story as they typically have better sniping skills than their male counterparts.

US Study said:
A 2007 study found Marines typically carry 97 to 135 pounds of gear, leading to increasing injuries. Military studies acknowledge that combat soldiers are carrying too much weight — often more than 100 pounds

WTF? It's gone all sci-fi now. That's not what I expected. Interestingly enough, it's finally deviated enough from their previous games that I might actually play this one. I'm as burnt out on the contemporary military shooter as I am WWII crap. I'm all for some new science fiction action.

Out of curiosity, is the trailer disliked just because its COD?

I think so. It's deviated from the modern military shooter into science fiction territory. Games like BLOPS3 ended up playing more like Titanfall without the mechs and it was shit.

I suppose they will continue to put the same pig with new lipstick out there, as long they continue to profit. I'd like to see the stats on the haters that always end up buying the game (if it existed).

I believe the last CoD I bought was, CoD4-MW.

At least the Infinite Warfare trailer actually made me laugh.
Same here. I particularly like the transition of a woman running her hand down a Vietnam-style memorial, then we immediately cut to a shot of another world that I'm pretty sure has to be Titan because you can see Saturn on the horizon and it has an atmosphere. Modern Warfare!

This is actually the first COD game since I don't know when that seems interesting to me. I'll definitely check this out.

The hate campaign is just there because they expected a different game, and now they feel somehow wronged. When in fact if reality doesn't intersect with your expectations it's not reality that is in error.

I liked some of the last ones. Nothing to be passionate about. They were just ok games.

However, CoD 1 & 2 were some of the best gaming experiences I've had. I had my speakers at full blast, and it was a fun ride. I haven't had that experience since then. It's really gone down hill. Not shit games, but they aren't anything to write home about. The CoD name will sell units, the games themselves will just be mediocre.

Looks fun, but unfortunately I bet most of the stuff you see in that trailer ends up being on rails. Still, it wouldn't be getting nearly as much hate if they simply took the Call of Duty label off it, that's how dumb the "community" is.
Just give me the CoD4 remake on its own. That was a real classic FPS.

What's funny is the Twitter war that a bunch of DICE devs started (they've since apologized) over this trailer. They said what all of us were thinking ...

lol, I get what you're saying, but I was simply making a poor attempt at a commentary on the complaining about things getting disliked on youtube lately.

As far as the game itself, they know it'll sell so they don't need to change anything. That should be painfully obvious to everyone seeing complaints about exo jumps, wall running, supply drops, etc. The fans bitch and moan, but they'll still buy it. Until they have a CoD that actually fails miserably, they have no reason to give a damn.

The best line of the whole statement? "The day to worry is the day we stop trying new things." Welcome to Call of Duty 4: The last new thing you tried.

DICE can talk now too. The things they've done with the new consoles and their engine are amazing. There was no way that I would have ever thought that Battlefront's Endor would look anything like the trailer, and even with downgraded release graphics, it would be living in the 40 FPS range rather than a true 60 FPS. Boy, did they surprise me.

I've tried several as CoD4: MW was one of my favorite shooters of all time. CoDMW2 had a lot to like but it was a step in the wrong direction. I skipped BLOPS, but got BLOPS II. I also bought Ghosts I think. That was the last entry in the series I purchased. I did try the beta for BLOPSIII and it was basically Titanfall but without the smooth gameplay or the mechs. I passed on that pile of shit. It also ran like ass on my machine and the visuals really didn't justify it.

I'm glad to see CoDXIIIXIXIXIXI or whatever the hell number this one is deviating from the established formula. As I said, I might try this one on that basis alone. It wouldn't be something I'd try until there were some reviews, gameplay videos and some discounts offered on it. I'm definitely done paying full price for CoD games. I've been disappointed with the entire series after CoD4.

Aren't FPS games all the same anyway? Run around with pistol/shotgun/rifle/rockety rockets... shoot anything that moves... points! Yay!

An 8 vs 8 game that's pretending to be a 32 vs 32 game, and no modding allowed

And gamers are ultra upset that Bloops 3 didn't get modding tools when they were promised them

Consumers have every reason to be upset

Mechanically, I suppose. The experience, story and various gameplay elements can indeed be different and make for a variable experience.

Now that does sound like shit and people should be upset about that.

Pretty sure that trailer was a bit of Freelancer. It looks okay to me. Space games are always fun even if they ripoff books and games.

Counter-Strike, Planetside, Battlefield, Quake, Team Fortress, Splatoon (even though it's really a third person shooter), H1Z1, Left 4 Dead. All of these games really bring something truly unique to the table.

CODMW was pretty good. the last great shooter I played was probably crysis - possibly my favorite FPS of all time.

How many bajillion dollars has this franchise made, and they still have that shitty looking engine? Damn. Started off OK, but very very quickly you see how cheesy it looks especially after looking at that BF trailer.

My biggest gripe with these games is that that they charge full price for a game that's fundamentally identical to the one they released the previous year.

How can this and Fallout 4 be the same price? I just don't understand.

CoD4:MW was deff the pinicle of the franchise. And the only reason MW2 was worse was because the publishers took over and the love creating dev's lost their say. Its when the real Infinity Ward started to seperate and they changed the endinge and/or network code and it just broke CoD! IT was still playable in MW2 and it was quite fun still... but any player with half of an ability to be subjective and factual about how it plays knew there was "something" wrong since MW2. When MW3 dropped... it was another step in the wrong direction. Not because it was "the same old COD". it was. Thats what the players want.. the same game.. just more of it. But it was bugged out to the max. The network code / lag compensation was really broken this time and they never fixed it. It just plane sucks. For one person it can be over compensating all the time and for another (like me) its a disadvantage for 95% of games. Its just plane broken. And this ruined what would have been an otherwise worthy successor.

Everyone that loves COD just wants teh same COD4 feel but with more stuff to do ala MW3..... can we have a not-buggy-version of COD with better graphics.. the same 60fps feel and control. the same Modern Warfare theme. But with all of the levesl of COD4 / MW2 / MW3 with all DLC levels. a new Single Player but that can be played with 8 total friends in co-op mode. And 8 player Survival Mode and all the modes from MW3 (instead of being limited to two). With no broken network/hit detection code. And proper full PC moding and dedicated servers sot he PC guys can do their thang.

Everyone wins.

I think for me, the reason is CoD is symbolic of everything that's wrong with gaming. By themselves, the games often aren't bad. But they became consolized. The maps shrank from CoD 1 & 2 from being open world WW2 maps to being tight quarter futuristic maps. Team sizes shrank from 64 players per map to 12. In CoD1, the developers removed bunny hopping by adding in a delay, and in the later CoDs, it's all about parkour. The PC games, up through World at War included free map packs and dedicated servers. The console brought paid map packs to the game, very limited maps for the base game, no player run servers. As a result, the community became fragmented, and you could no longer just play with friends unless they were in your party. This destroyed communities that use to be in the game. The series also is notorious for the yearly new game in the franchise, and the graphics still look the same. And all of this increased the popularity to massive heights, which many snobby gamers don't like (gawd forbid you like something that the mass audience likes), but unfortunately it also brought in the stereotypical 12 year old boy who can't shut up and apparently has a vocabulary limited to vulgarity and sexual innuendo. It still stays successful, but sooner or later all of the above drives away previous fans who now despise the franchise.

Meh, I'll buy it. I just want to know when Master Chief shows up though.

(I can't be the only thinking this looks like the prequel to Halo)

Honestly, as long as it's competently executed and I get at least a 10 hour single-player campaign, I'm happy. I'm too old to be trading headshots with a bunch of high-school and college twitch gamers. I like stories, characters, and plots in my entertainment.

Some folks don't. Different strokes I guess. If you don't like it, don't buy it. Don't act like those "SJWs" you claim to despise and demand the developers change the game to your liking.

10 hour SP campaign? This is CoD we're talking about. For the past few years you're lucky if the campaigns, as god awful generic and cookie cutter as they are, were 6 hours or longer.

You list a lot of things that are deff wrong with the games now. I concur with most of them. The "console-itis" dumbing down is deff one of the main negatives for me even though i play the game on console... i'm a person that was an FPS player from way back and i dont want games to go backwards! I wanted PC games and functionality brought to consoles if anything! But we've gone backwards ten fold. Its an absolute shame because wheni first got a 360 and the even the first gen games on it blew me away.... they were getting all the feature sand fucntionality of PC games. I remember being able to play GRAW on a LAN.. and have people on XBOX LIVE join in.. i twas FKN AWESOME! But after first gen games... they all got cut down and gutted. Mainstream popularity brought main stream money baker "big businesss" and with comeing in.. quality and the love for making great games for loved customers goes straight out the window aside from the small number of lucky dev's that hit gold like CoD4.

Because console squirts.
