Yes, Marketing! Good news for AMD, and I'm sure quite a the challenge for Mrs. Pirritano!

OC3D :: Article :: Leslie Pirritano moves from Nvidia to AMD :: Leslie Pirritano moves from Nvidia to AMD after 13 years of employment

From 2006 to 2009 Leslie acted as Nvidia's Head of Developer Relations, with her job title changing to "Your Best Friend" from 2009 to 2016. Over her time at Nvidia she has worked with many of the world's top video game developers and created co-marketing and programs which have benefited Nvidia in a Huge way, creating many Geforce Game bundles and establishing Nvidia's worldwide digital redemption process for game codes.

Edit: 13 year veteran!

That's like hiring an expert nautical engineer with a decade of practical, citable success to un-sink the titanic.
Yeah its not a one person problem either, they just don't have enough engineers to spread over a number of game dev teams......

PS she isn't really marketing, she is more dev rel with a side of co marketing games.

What AMD needs is someone to take the helm of their marketing team for their graphics cards.

Yeah, they can create a marketing team that lies about how much vram is on their graphics cards, or how much of directx 12 their cards actually support. You crack me up.

Could be worse: start paying developers to implement code that cripples opponents hardware worked for the other team :) .

why do you think they hired someone from nvidia marketing.

it's not for customers its to schmooze with devs and oems.

You do realize how moronic that statement is right? Async compute is not the same thing as AMD's marketed Async shaders ;)

Yes it is worse, async shaders which is an AMD only hardware feature is out of DX 12 specs and they are having developers implement it as single path for both AMD and nV hardware, good point! You actually didn't put much thought into what you posted did you? Even though you were one of those people that loved to talk about async shaders.

Well one person ain't going to shit with devs you need infrastructure to support dev teams, one person can do how many projects at once? I don't care how good a person is, its the time a person can allocate, you only have 24 hours in a day.

you better tell AMD that.

\

they even call the async compute engines.

Contact Us at AMD

here's their phone number call them and tell them they are wrong.

and post the results.

They are wrong, have look at DX12 specs, they know they are wrong too, thats why when you have AMD programmers talking about it at GDC they never use the term Async shaders, they always use multi engine and async compute.

And we have had multiple discussions about it here, at B3D, where programmers have corrected others using the wrong terms. This what caused all the confusion to begin with, because people believed AMD marketing and it totally f*ed up any proper understanding of what was going on outside of people that actually knew what was what.

well give em a call.

don't forget to record the convo.

can't record a phone conversation without prior consent lol, don't know you know your laws?

I suggest read up, and don't be a marketing sap.

Recording Phone Calls and Conversations | Digital Media Law Project

why don't you do it? I will see ya in lock up pretty quickly if you don't go through AMD's legal department and have you lawyer ready too, cause you better make sure both sides dot their I's and crosses there T's.

Actually I was wondering where that Async driver was for the 900 series they been telling people they are doing it but Nvidia never released it.

I'm pretty sure the bold bit is wrong ;)
Because it would require an AMD extension to DX12 to function and so far haven't heard anything about extensions for Async just for console related instructions

Fly to Chicago call them from there :) .

obviously you tell them you are recording it....

read up? links?

Async compute works fine, that is what the kicker is, multiple compute queues, no problem, compute queues with graphics queues in DX12 is the issue.

Why don't you read, I can't believe we have had so many discussions on it, and you are still stuck at what you were saying 8 months ago?

MS's dev site for DX, not hard to find, they go right into what multi engine is, what async compute is. Async shaders are mentioned as some hardwares are capable same are not, hence not part of the spec.

Speaking of dev support, AMD is also supporting all consoles, so AMD is already working closely with the big game engines and big studios. It used to be a big issue for them, bit a lot less worried about that now... Heck even Epic is stuck supporting GCN, even if it's most probably goes against Mr. Sweeny's wishes.

I see her continuing and expanding this work even more.

Can't believe Nvidia the masters of the universe when it comes to drivers could not fix it ...

Well if async shaders isn't supported the way GCN has support for them, there may be no hope to fix it through software in Maxwell 2, again is it really that important too when Fiji doesn't even get the same benefits as Hawaii, or Hawaii vs. Barts etc?

Async compute on the other hand, yeah we have seen it work.

Async shaders works outside of the DX12, OGL, Cuda etc. So there might be some hope, but longer its not there the more likely it can't be fixed in DX12 due to what ever incompatibility.

Its not something that would be the forefront if it creates headaches for dev's to begin with. We saw Hitman, async done right? Was it, looks to me the DX12 path was just utter crap.

Its a starting point, but they need to much more, like get openGPU into the major engines that would be a good start.

Any good news is good news. No need to reach out for other unrelated subjects just to rain on the parade.
We will see how this all plays out in the end.

I have exclusive footage of her first day walking into AMD's marketing dept:

After the launch of the 1080 and 1070, AMD need all the PR and marketing spin they can get.

Hmm, quite the opposite actually. With little-to-no hard specifications and numbers given at an official product launch, I find that really, really odd.

Have you checked the latest AotS benches with the 1080?

I was withholding judgment until I saw some benches, and the numbers are just downright ugly.

I'll wait until benchmarks don't come with the word leak attached.
