Star Citizen - media blowout, Chris Robert's new game

It just depends, price may or may not change CIG hasn't commented on why they changed the policy or maybe it was just a mistake made by turbulent. Or at least I haven't seen them comment on it yet.

The Upgrades and CCU's use to stay the same as the original melt price and some still are, however the last Starfarer sale changed that. I would not expect the price of melted ccu's or upgrades to stay the same any more, they have already retroactively changed them once before. If you melted a Standalone ship those seem to have stayed the same as the original price but there is nothing stopping CIG from doing what they did with the CCU unmelt prices to the standalone ships as well.

Also they brought back the April Fools page so you can get the forum title "fooled" if you click on the "buy now" button for the skin. You won't get the $5 coupon but you can at least get the title if you missed it.

nice got the title.

MISC prospector is up.

MISC Prospector Unearthed - Roberts Space Industries

Looks like a nice little miner i hope they get it and the mining mechanics in soon so i can decide if i really want the Orion over the Reclaimer, i am still sort of torn between those 2 industrial power houses.

Mining seems more defined in where you might look for resources, while Salvage likely requires a bit more explorations and moving around to find a wreck ect. So they likely going to play out very differently.

I am also curious if there will be a good way to transfer Ore from the prospector to an Orion, would be neat to have a 3 or 4 Prospectors in a field collecting ore and samples for the Orion to refine without offloading some where else.

Man, new gen ships look so much better and polished. Can't wait for the eventual reworks of the older ships.

I like that this can mine on the planet while the Orion is stuck in space. It like the HULL B to the HULL E. Can't wait to see if they come our with a smaller salvage ship design. I also like this is a single seater like the HULL B and I really love the MISC ship designs.

I really like how they put some forethought into the role of all ships, so that it isn't a Prospector is simply an inferior Orion that costs less, but they both have strengths and weaknesses. I'm definitely in for one as I have some store credit to burn, mainly as yet another LTI pledge I can use for upgrades and/or to melt/buyback later. Given what happened to the Starfarer, I'm not going to miss having a > $100 ship in my buyback queue again if I can help it, so I can easily go back to any ship that is upgraded or is going to ascend significantly in price/design. Still waiting to see what kinds of redesign will come to the Caterpillar, Retaliator (which I really think needs to be sized up compared to others of its price/type and its modularity!), Banu Merchantman, Orion, Carrack, and Endeavor when it comes to the big ships, but I'm also curious about the 300 series upgrade (badly, badly in need) and other smaller vessels to see if they'll bne upgraded to the kind of quality we see here for the Prospector.

Bleh. Any chance this game develops into a universe where you have actual space and land combat on a large scale? I would love to be a part of a major battle. Being able to go from gunning in a ship to boarding another ship or asteroid/planet in a coordinated assault would be tits.

Star Ponzi is about selling space yachts, while making minor changes to a PTU techdemo to keep the ruse going. That's the whole game.

Look at this thread 6, 12, 18, 24 months ago and all anyone has to talk about is buying/melting down a ship. Check in again in 6, 12, 18+ months and all anyone will be talking about is buying/melting down a ship.

Is there still a market for accounts? I have a Real Admiral account with Constellation Andromeda LTI.
Pledged in the beginning of October 2012, so it includes all corresponding rewards.
I just dont see myself ever playing SC. I checked the trader reddit now and then, but that place seems to have so much going on that its intimidating.

First and second pass concept images of the Prospector. I'm dating myself here but the Space 1999 vibe is strong with this one

I check this thread every few months to see where the game is at (would love to play it someday), but it is the same thing months after month. I tried that free week(end?) thing a while back, but it just crashed a lot, so I never got much gaming/testing in. Hopefully it come of age soon.

I backed this game with the assumption that I would be playing Squadron 42 first, and the persistent universe would follow. Last updates I saw indicated that at least a portion of Squadron 42 would be released in the first half of 2016. I hope we get something this year, I am excited for the single player game.

Which part of it?
Release version of Episode one. Small chance they will stage it in sets of missions (that was the plan at one point) but we should see at least the first set of these before the end of the year, hopefully all of episode one. Episode one is what you can buy now, either standalone or as +$15 option on the PU version of the game.

I wonder how long Episode One will be. 3-5 hours or closer to 8-10+?

i would expect it to be 8-20hours, you can easily pad the time to finish by having multiple stages to objective when out in space as well as distance between those objective, and have a minimal impact on creation. the real interesting part is how much interaction will there be with the npc's and wingmen and how fleshed out that feels, more so than the actual time from start to completion.

I just don't want it to feel rushed out to meet a deadline this year if it feels like it needs more time in the slow cooker.

Does it matter if we don't have to pay for further episodes? I don't know if we do so I am just asking.

Episode 1, episode 2 episode 3 ect. all need to be paid for on their own.

each episode is essentially its own game, they are just parts of an overarching story.

Sort of like Wing Commander being episode 1, and wing commander 2 being episode 2.

So Episode one needs to feel like a complete experience but also feel like it could be continued in some way in episode 2.

It can be confusing because they could end up releasing the episodes in sections, like the first few missions could be released in a chapter release and multiple chapters could make up 1 episode, ect.

I thought those that bought got the entire package.

Nope, current packages only include Episode 1

Here is a long explanation:

The planned release of Squadron 42 has gone through some revisions and the wording confuses people sometimes, I honestly don't know if it's even set in stone at the moment.

Originally it was "Squadron 42" the game, then would come the "Mission Disks" which were basically what they were calling the paid expansions,.

Then it was said Squadron 42 would have a episodic release schedule, where you would essentially have "Squadron 42: Episode 1" which consists of "X number of Chapters" the chapters would come out every month or so. I don't know how many chapters they were planning. Just think of it like the TellTale games style of releases. "Squadron 42: Episode 1" is still the original game just not released all at once but rather in parts.

Some people have been confused thinking episodic means they split the original game into episode 1, 2, 3, etc.. and are charging for each release. This isn't the case, they just split the release of the original game into chapters but those are free or I should say already paid for by purchasing the base game.

Episode 2 and so on are the paid expansions, originally called mission disks. They will most likely be split into chapters as well and and it will cost money to get them.

Anyway, if you pledged (which means you actually spent money, not just created an account) before a certain date (I think it was July 7th 2013) you will have either Veteran or Original backer status and get all the pledge goal freebies from 14 million and below which included the 6 million stretch goal of "The first Squadron 42 mission disk, Behind Enemy Lines" This was the first paid expansion for Squadron 42, which will is now "Episode 2"

It's even a bit more confusing, since there are around 200,000 backers who should get Episode 2 for free. Which is probably a good portion of the core backers who are on the forums and what not since they have been here since the early days. So you hear all kinds of off hand comments about free this or that, missions, episodic, episodes, chapters etc...

I've heard numbers tossed around saying each episode is anywhere from 35 to 40 hours of gameplay, it's speculation. However I would be Surprised if it's less than 35.

I've seen the same estimate of 40+ hours for Episode 1. They've already finished all motion capture for Episode 1 and at least one round of minor reshoots. So we'll be spending several hours just to watch all the dialog and acted sequences, plus traditonal gameplay time. I don't remember if we've gotten a solid number for how many missions will be in there, I want to say it was 30+ but I don't have a source right now.

I hope they're skippable. He's Chris "Wing Commander Movie" Roberts, not JJ Abrams, and I have no interest in sitting through hours of his ego-stroking, amateur hour approximation of Hollywood film making. Although, even with the SC war chest I doubt he could afford that much time with all the big names he threw money at for voice work.

just dont talk to the npc's and go to your mission director for debrief

Keep in mind there will be dialog choices and appropiate responses, so a fraction of it you will never hear unless you go back and choose all responses (skyrim style).

Thanks for the info, I hadn't heard this (though I haven't been following this much lately either)

As long as backers get what they were promised, I'm good. The first "episode" better be a full SP experience, though. The idea of talking about what is essentially DLC at this point puts a bit of a sour taste in my mouth, but we'll see.

more like full games of their own, or large expansions like we used to get back in the day which are all download only now so they can be called DLC but they are not traditionally what one would expect from a DLC label either.

Is this playable yet (rpg and/or mmo wise) ?

If it is 1/2 as good as claimed then it will be well worth the time.

I've thought about trying Eve a few times. Didnt like the buy in price for a very cut-your-throat kind of game world.

Not really. You can fly and dogfight in the ships but as far as FPS/RPG elements nope. You can see them but no interactions yet.

Check your email 2.4.0 PTU invites are going out, got mine a few minutes ago

And since they are no longer under NDA, here's a set of screenshots with the flyable Starfarer and other things

uh. so what does this mean? Is there now single player elements that we previously did not have access to?
