Arctic Cooling Liquid Freezer 240 AIO CPU Cooler Review @ [H]

I'm putting together a new 6700K build, and like the look of this cooler a lot. Planning on using a Corsair 780T full tower case. Would this cooler fit entirely inside the case without having to remove the top cover or have anything sticking out? If so, I'll probably go with this instead of the H110 I was originally thinking of.

Answering my own question, the 240 does fit inside the Corsair 780T case without anything showing outside. The 2 top fans sit under the cover, and the radiator and the bottom fans sit inside the case with enough room for everything.
 
I was going to get a d15 but didnt like the idea of that much weight of a gtx 970 with custom Arctic Cooler plus a d15. This cooler seems to be cooler than air and not be overly loud- which is a deal breaker for me. Tried to buy one of these after seeing the review but seems availability is very limited. Wondering when they will hit Australia. Can't even get it delivered through Amazon atm.
 


I just got a new Motherboard, 6700K and this cooler. Here's what it looks like installed.
 
Seems to run fine, I plugged it into my sysfan slot and plugged the 4 radiator fans into the cpufan slot. My MSI command center let's me change the "fan speed" of the pump so I just set it to 100%. There is little to no pump noise. I am not sure if setting it to 100% has any downside. This is my first non-air cooler.

Turning the 4 radiator fans to 100% was pretty loud but they are quiet when going slower / auto setting in the fan controller. Idling at 33c with the automatic oc to 4.4ghz on my proc. I am going to test ocing higher tonight.
 
I'll echo what JonnyK says. Seems to run very silent. I'm using the alt CPU fan port on the motherboard, so it cycles the fan speed based on load. At idle it's virtually silent. I can hear them speed up a bit under load, but the GPU fans are much louder. Almost no pump noise at all.

I idle at 23c, with some cores in the teens. Typical load temps from gaming stays in the 40s, and stress testing will hit upper 60s. This is at 4.7Ghz at 1.35V.
 
Did you have much of a burn in period where your idle temps dropped?

Also does anyone know why this msi command center shows my temps much higher than coretemp does? I'm wondering if it's showing motherboard ambient temp or something.

And is there any actual recommendation on if I should have the pump set to 100% all the time or leave it on 'smart mode' as if it were a variable speed cpu fan?

that's most likely motherboard or socket temp.

Leave the pump at 100%. That's what it's designed for.

Not much, they have been pretty low the entire time. They ran a bit higher when I initially forced my CPU voltage to stay up and not drop at idle, but they run nice and low now that I'm running CPU voltage in adaptive mode.

I got this cooler after reading the Hardocp review. Wow! Idle temps in the low teens and 4 hours of stress testing and I only can hit the high 40s. Massive improvement over my venerable TRUE 120. Glad I made the jump to the AIO water cooling group. Thanks Kyle and the team for the informative and useful review!

It's not that cool, no. The system is in the basement though, on the floor, but it's probably around 70F in the room.

Core Temp shows pretty similar numbers:

Seems to idle really low. The OC panel that came with my board shows the CPU temp usually at 24-25C, which would make a little more sense, and something like EVGA Precision shows an idle temp around 22-23C for the CPU at idle. Seems to be all over the place depending on what program I use.

My fans are spinning at 850ish RPM at idle stock 4690k and the four fans are pretty loud. 500 RPM seems to be the starting point for these fans.

Also, when running the fan header for the pump at 100% I can easily hear the pump/water rushing even with the fans running at 1000 RPM. Will the noise settle down?

I have a Fractal R5 and Arctic recommends having the radiator installed in the top as an intake. That makes sense CPU wise as the radiator will receive cold air. However wouldn't the case get filled with hot air from the radiator when OC'ing and loading the CPU?

Should I do top intake, top exhaust or front intake? Right now it's installed in top as exhaust but the fan noise is rather high. Thinking about installing it in the front as intake but I would be giving up two 140 mm intaking cold air.

After reading all the reviews and inputs from users describing this unit as whisper quiet I'm a bit disappointed as I find it quite noisy. But then again I haven't heard other AiO setups like Corsair etc.

Ah that sucks, I have been trying everywhere to find a decntly priced one that ships to Australia.....but if it's not as quite as it us supposed to be maybe I don't want one after all. Noise is a big thing for me, I would much rather have a few FPS less and not have to game using headphones. Blower style 970's were supposed to be ok noise wise but the one I got was unbearable until I put a custom arctic cooler on it. Can you slow the fan speed down to 500 and see how it goes? I would imagine that 4 fans would not need to be terribly high to dispel the heat from a 4690k.

In regards to the pump, can you set it up to run slower when temps are within a decent range? Whats the point of a liquid cooler if you can constantly here it when checking your email etc.
 
Just bought one off of eBay. Getting ready to upgrade my x58 system with a new Xeon CPU so I figured I might as well replace the old Corsair H60 that's been in there for 6 years. I'm going to try and make this fit into my Lian-Li PC-V351. I've seen a few folks manage to get 240mm radiators into the front of this case and I'm not afraid to do a bit of work with the dremel, so hopefully I can get it to fit. The limited space may force me to ditch the push-pull combination and run it with just 2 fans. I'll have to see what temps look like. Worst case is I route the radiator outside of the case and just let it sit behind my box - ugly, but it'll be tucked away out of site.
 
Ordered one of these yesterday for my new 5820k build. The old H50 I pulled out of retirement works fine for day to day but if I push all the way hard it will hit 85c in no time. I want to keep it under 80c. Will be fun selecting where to fit it in my Radius 5 case.
 
Okay arrived and fitted. A few oddities but it all works okay. Max temps have dropped from 85c to 75c. However, at full load it really does whine quite loudly. Not that quiet at all. Normal use is perfect however. Might try turning the max rpm down a little in the BIOS and see if that still allows a decent compromise.
 
Has anyone managed to fit one of these in a Phanteks Evolv ATX? I'd prefer to go with the 240 over the 120, but it seems like the 240 may hang too low in the case and block RAM access.

I have the same cooling system but i'm not really happy with performance.

35 degrees idle / around 55 to 60 in game i was expecting better results.


For the people who has it how did you set it up? Intake, exhaust?

Are my tubes too twisted ?

First, you have an inherently hot CPU. I know, I have one as well. Second, your setup looks fine. Do you have your fans setup as intake or exhaust?

Also, have you delidded that CPU? If not, do it. Get some liquid metal TIM to go between the core and heatspreader, then use a good paste between spreader and water block.

I generally see idles around 23-27C and gaming loads around 45-55c. Running AIDA it gets up to low 60's.
 
exhaust is fine. That's how mine are. Just remember you're exhausting hot GPU air through the radiator so temps will be a little higher than if you have the fans as intake.

I like positive case pressure. I have 4x 120 fans as intakes that suck more air in than the 4x rad fans and 1x 120 rear exhaust out. Keeps the inside of the case cleaner.

Have you tried re-mounting the waterblock? Are you getting good contact with the TIM?

I actually ordered a silent loop 360 thinking i will have better cooling performance with a bigger rad (and silence too). Do you think it's a waste and i will have the same results (i can still cancel the order.)
 
I don't know. Generally speaking you want the top and back fans to exhaust, front and side as intakes. Movement of air and heat. If you have too many intake fans the heat won't go anywhere, your GPU will just steep in it's own heat.

If you run AIDA or some other CPU benchmark what are your load temps like?

Honestly, 60's is not bad. That's no where near throttling temps. Here's how mine is sitting at idle. Is speedstep working for you? My clocks come way down at idle and jump to 4.5 when needed.

Under load with AIDA. Little spikes of temps, but generally pretty stable in the upper 50's to mid 60's.

Yes my frequency varies, 800 idle most of the time and goes to 4.4.

Haven't checked yet AIDA or benchmark but i will. whic version should i download?

i downloaded realbench too.

I'll see it it runs better with the AIO i'm getting (silent loop 360), if it's the same i have 2 weeks to return it so nothing to lose and try to sell the arctic one if it's better.
