Just curious what the guys on [H] are going with and why.

I went with the Oculus Rift because it looks more comfy and they have had so much time to perfect their SDK. Plus as shitty as it sounds, they seem to have exclusive titles but steam doesn't. I want to play games, so I went with Rift.

I also got a galaxy s7, so I got my gear VR with that too.

**EDIT**

Decided to say Fuck it and bought the vive too. I might end up selling the rift or cancelling it, depending on if I get my vive first. (I have an april ship date for the rift, but a may ship date on vive)

Going with Vive because as much as I liked my Rift DK2 + Leap Motion combo, I didn't really care for the seated experience. Interaction is where it's at. I could wait for Touch but I like the idea of full room-scale over mostly roomscale. I think either is a fine choice though. I love the look of the Touch controller.

I'm also planning to get PSVR because I already have the camera and move controllers and I bet Sony is going to do some cool stuff with it.

Will be getting Vive eventually. Have a dk2 now and still enjoying that, hoping to see more traditional game types work in vr though.

PS VR because I don't want to be chasing the ever moving target of PC system requirements + lowering in game settings for a good experience. I presume that each PS VR game will play well on the one platform it works on.

Vive and Rift because if I picked one it would inevitably be the wrong one. And because I don't have a PS4, or any interest in getting one. And I already had a GearVR, which is what sold me on the "proper" headsets.

Ordered the Rift myself, partly because I feel like Palmer earned it. He kick started (no pun intended) the push for VR this generation and everyone else jumped on board once they saw that technology is capable and there is a market for the devices. Also, after reading a lot of reviews of the two devices, a consistent difference between them is that the Rift feels lighter and is more comfortable than the Vive, I feel like this is going to be an important metric for these things that are going to be strapped to our faces for hours. I can wait for Touch and let more games come out with support for them and I think, once they are out, they are going to be more comfortable than the Vive wands.

Who knows though, HTC has been doing a better job the last few weeks marketing the Vive and may end up running away with it because they have vr-enabled controllers packaged in on day one.

As far as the argument about the PC requirements being a moving target, both Oculus and HTC have specified the recommending minimums for a proper VR experience and they aren't going to change until the next generation of HMDs (if there is another generation) in 2-3 years. For this reason I don't really find that to be a very good argument. I am hoping the PSVR is good and helps to push VR into the mainstream. I'm definitely curious how they're gonna pull it off considering console games still don't run at full HD @ 60 frames per second. Everything I've heard though says it's a good experience so that little breakout box must be doing some kind of magic voodoo.

I ordered a Rift. Having a chance to try the CV1 and the Vive at CES this year, the Rift is more comfortable and has the edge on visual quality. The Vive's room scale was really awesome but I couldn't get comfortable using the wands. Considering how much more I like Touch, plus the better comfort and optics, I can wait six months if reports are true that the Rift can work with room scale. My shipping estimate was April, really hoping to have been bumped up to March. I've been ready to buy a VR headset since demoing Crescent Bay last year.

None of them. The cost of admission is just too high at this point, and I've been uncomfortable wearing glasses in the couple of headsets I've tried (Gear VR and a Rift DK2). Maybe in a few years when things have matured and I've gone the route of lasik or some variation there-of, but not now.

I pulled the trigger on Vive plus a new PC build (6700k & 980 ti) yesterday. Day 1 room scale and tracking controllers sold me on the Vive over the Rift. I'm 99% positive the Rift is a sure bet for actual gamers but I am willing give HTC/Valve a chance & my money to see how deep their rabbit hole goes.

I am still holding out. I want Oculus Rift, and I do not want to deal with HTC Vive (Valve Time) will affect this thing hardware wise in time; BUT I really want Final Fantasy 7 Remake in VR. So that makes me turn my head to PSVR, but I believe they said that FF7 remake is coming to PC too soo... >_>. I am conflicted but I know that FF7 remake will greatly affect by hardware buying decision.

I got a new S7 and Gear VR for now. I needed a new phone anyway so it was a no brainer to pick up the Gear VR. The resolution is noticeably low, but for 100 bucks it's not an issue for something to play around with.

My system is ready for any of the big vr equipment but I'll wait to see how things go during the early days. It will most likely be the Oculus as I don't have a place to set up room vr anyway.

Playstation VR is pretty much a no brainer. I'm not in any hurry though as I'll wait until some content is produced and they put out a few updates.

Find a way to demo the Rift once it comes out, it's supposed to have been made much more comfortable for glasses users.

I had planned to preorder both the Rift and the Vive, and gotten an email about getting a free unit for being a KS backer. So for at least a little time I'll have 2x Rift and 1x Vive. I highly doubt I'll keep them all.

I went with Rift because that is the platform my company is buying for it's sales force. I am interested in the entertainment side but the Rift also has a work value for me.

Have the GearVR + S7 and have a Rift and Vive on the way (first batch for each). Have a feeling I'll be selling the Vive since it sounds like the Rift will win with ergonomics and image quality. I'm really worried about the clarity/sharpness aspect of these first gen HMDs so I'm probably going with the one that looks better. I'll just have to wait for Touch, but iRacing and cockpit sims should hold me over until then.

When you get your Rift/Vive - will you be doing reviews on them / possibly tossing them on high end setups for testing? Would love to see what these do to high end rigs once they come barreling out of the floodgates.
Yep.

Also ordered a Rift. When funds allow, I'll probably end up with a Vive as well. Depends on how quick Oculus Touch comes out and how the VR software ecosystem compatibility ends up. I don't want to miss out on the Valve-produced interactive demos and software. Exciting times!

I use gaming to relax not jump around my room.

The overall cost of the Vive will increase with time.
When you accidentally strike your girly, you will have to start dating another from scratch or pay hospital bills / compensation, costly.
And when you tread on your pets, vets bills and replacement costs will mount.
Thats saying nothing about broken TV screens, fish tanks, vases, ornaments, glasses, and your own hospital bills.

I voted OR so I can sit down and chill safely and cheaply.
:p

Pre-ordered the vive, mainly for the controllers. Hopefully it is worth it.

I ordered a HTC Vive and am eagerly waiting for notification of it shipping.

While I understand this post is tongue in cheek, you do realize that the vive is just as good in a seated position right?

As can Oculus games be made to use a larger area.

Its the focus of the games in general.
Oculus games have a larger element of being seated, Vive games have a larger element of being room based.
I realise that this is diluted down somewhat by other games released outside the walled gardens, but it is still what it is.

I would have checked "other" if that was on the list. Looking at all the current VR tech I still think there are some serious refinements that need to be made. This tech is NOT for everyone; just a certain segment that want to game (or whatever the app) at this level. Toward the end of the year you are going to hear a lot of complaining about the ill effects of wearing the HMD gear for long sessions.
Dizziness, nausea, neck strain as well as vision abnormalities. Also there will by some physiological things effecting people. (Likely people that should have stayed away from VR in the first place.) Much of this is still uncharted territory. I think there will be some extreme cases even of VR blamed as a cause of death. Crazy talk? Remember the thing that makes VR work is the ability to fool your senses to what you are seeing is real. (or real enough) What about those who will experiment with drugs and VR. Altered state of mind+altered reality is a bad combination. Heightened paranoia+VR=bad news.

In the next few years these things will start to happen.

You mean the Oculus walled garden right? Steam vr works with both platforms. It's oculus that is trying to exclude others. Oculus only gets excluded via games designed around controllers that oculus hasn't released yet. Look I'm with you that I'll be doing most of my vr from a sitting position, but choosing the oculus rift over the htc vive over its lack of features doesn't make sense to me. It would make more sense to base it on price.

For me, elite dangerous, star citizen, flight, and driving Sims are the killer apps for me, or when valve ever gets around to making portal 3 for vr.

Ordered a Samsung VR since it's nice and cheap and I have a Note 5. Got it today and I'm very impressed with it. I'll wait and see about the Vive and Oculus before I make a decision.

I was leaning toward the Vive, but im going to wait until the first nerd falls out of a third story window with his pants around his ankles from Virtual Porn...since Kyle has two on pre-order, anyone want to start a pool? :D

Went ahead and got both the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. Have an open room with a soon-to-be-upgraded HTPC that will be home to the Vive and my daily rig for the Rift.

I'm going with the Rift for this round. The PSVR is going to be the most popular headset due to its low barrier of entry and it has similar limitations of the Rift so they will share the most content. The Vive will play a lot of the same games as the Rift and PSVR (minus exclusives) but they won't be room scale. I bet it will be another year or two before we start to see more than a handful of polished room scale games (depending on how much actual interest there is in this type of game play in the market) and the next gen of HMDs will be around the corner by then anyhow.

I already had a Galaxy S6 and since I was looking at spending ~$50 on upgrading my cardboard anyway I realized it would make far more sense to spend the money on a GearVR.

I ordered Oculus Rift, PSVR and HTC Vive but I cancelled my HTC Vive order after I found out that I need a large area to use it and its not good for sitting down.

You don't need a large area to use it. Seated experiences work just fine on the Vive - when you are going through the initial setup it even asks you if you'll be using it seated or standing.

However it's true there are more seated games on the Rift currently.

oh nice, i wished the reviewers would of mentioned that as all of them said you need a nice sizable area which I dont have. Thanks for the clarification, i might have to go re-order it then, lol.

None.

I'm really excited for this technology, but for me right now it's too much money to spend on speculative technology with extremely limited content.

I'm waiting to see what the landscape looks like towards the end of the year.

I've followed the development of this stuff closely for the last couple of years, and I believe it when people say the experience is mind blowing, I just have a hard time visualising what I'd be doing with it after the first weekend.

Basically until there's Witcher 3 level experiences I won't be buying in, and that's not even possible with current gen hardware.
