Need to buy a SSD today...

SMART starting to throw errors on my primary HDD. Finally going to jump to SSD. Would like storage between 250-500GB. Don't need stupid good performance. Haven't seen any good aggregate SSD drive reviews lately and not sure what is worth getting and what is worth avoiding.

Get any of these:
Performance ~= depends on needs, which is better
Extreme Pro (Sandisk)
850 PRO (Sammy)

Budget but still good get whatever is cheaper
MX200 (Crucial)
850 EVO (Sammy)

Basically sums up whatever is worth buying. There maybe a hidden gem or something but these are your safe bets

Extreme side and a waste if you don't actually need it:
950 PRO
Intel 750

(note this is assuming 500GB or more. 256GB performance difference substantially more because of the less amount of chips.

256gb or 500gb 850 Pro is what I'd get since it sounds like you don't upgrade often warranty is likely worth it.

not with SSDs....that 500GB drive will be work 50 or less dollars by time it crashes...not worth the time.

Anywauys if warranty was the issue the Extreme Pro has better warranty.


but again my 480GB is still working with 55TB of writes and i bought it at 270 and its like 170 bucks now. SSDs are basically disposable with how fast NAND is evolving.

a lot mention the m600. I heard its good but never seena review...too busy at the monemt to check up on it but i would be surprised if its really competitive overall but if it is i should take note

Went with the 500GB EVO. Just can't justify the $ for the extra performance i'll never use.

I saw that you already bought a drive, but just came to advocate for the Mushkin ECO drives @ Newegg. Especially for a drive that's mostly going to be read from (games/media) the price point of their drives is great. I've bought three so far and have nothing but positive experience with them.
