Galaxy S7 / S7 Edge

S7 = Galaxy S7, The Edge = S7 Edge. The edge has a bigger battery and screen than the S7.

You said "I wish the S7 had the screen size and battery size the edge has"

So are you saying you wish you had an S7 Edge? Because besides the actual edge, those are the literal differences between the two.

Except that edge can get really annoying unless it magically became much thicker.

S6 Edge 142.1 x 70.1 x 7 mm (5.59 x 2.76 x 0.28 in)
S7 Edge 150.9 x 72.6 x 7.7 mm (5.94 x 2.86 x 0.30 in)

they made it thicker for bigger battery and less camera bump

So if we pre-order a T-Mobile phone and insert an AT&T sim in it first it will work on AT&T? If so, cool!

You trust a telecom to NOT boot the phone first in house with the carrier kit before shipping it out, and are willing to bet $1000 on that?

I got a bridge for you.

What I am saying is I am not a fan of the edge but the regular phone should have had the bigger battery and screen.

This was probably at request from the OEM, I doubt this will end up being a Samsung ONLY thing honestly. Probably some measure to ensure people stop getting these and selling them before they are paid off. It is legal to do this, kind of sucks but I think its more of a thing to prevent fraud then anything else.

The funny thing is, I see this more often with iPhones than anything with Android. Sure Samsung had a high rate of fraud with banned phones with the S6/Edge's but you see it a lot with the iPhone on reseller websites.

Wow, both of these phones have the same size 5.5" screen;

Do I see it correctly that the Edge screen is narrower? Which implies to me that the edge is included into the 5.5" overall size??

BTW, is the edge really useful in some way, adds nice functionality or it is thus esthetics/ownership statement???

I hate the edge. I helped a coworker set her S6 edge up - the thing seems oddly narrow due to the lack of the bezel, it's slippery as hell, and it's hard to get any decent physical protection on it due to the edge. The form factor is attractive though, very thin phone. I still prefer the non-edge Galaxy S line.

Yes the edge screen is narrower when you look at it. If you flattened it out it would measure the 5.5 diagonal

I'm debating wether to get the s7 or the edge. So far I just see the edge has the curvy screen and a bigger battery. Is that curvy screen really that nice? I guess I just dont understand the point. I was also thinking if I move to a custom ROM like cyanogen, won't that be easier on a standard screen vs the edge?

I plan on making my preorder tomorrow, but just can't decide which to get.

The edge is a matter of preference and nothing more. I don't like it. And the screen size is not really as big of a difference as the size on paper would make it seem. To me the only thing the edge has going for it over the standard s7 is the extra battery and that isn't with the cost difference

Hmm, wonder what is then the actual screen size for normal use, could it be that by chance it is the same as the S7? Sounds Samsung is kind of misleading people about the screen size.

Regarding the usefulness of edge, there are demos showing how column of messaging boxes open when sliding finger along the edge. That does not look bad but feels marginal unless somebody is hyperactive on many social media at the same time.

From reports, the S7 edge ergonomics is improved over S6 - better grip due to curved back.

I was not interested in the edge one bit, seemed very gimmicky IMO. But after watching this, it actually seems useful and pretty cool;

Samsung Galaxy S7 edge: Edge UX demo and features

Today i had a lot of drama fitting tempered glass screens to customers phones on the s6 edge variants, usually i get one or 2 a week but today i had 3. They either dont stick down properly or crack with a tight lipped case. For some reason Im drawn to the edge model despite iits "impractibilty", but fuck its hard to find nice protection for it. I have 2 brands of tempered glass, one dont stick well enough and the other goes right to the edges which causes said cracks with tight armor cases. This is important/imperative as the design essentially adds severe vulnerability to the phone having the curved screen, adding even more "impractibilty" to the already "impractical" design.

Tell me why i ordered the Edge model of the 7, someone please XD.

Edit - btw i own a note 5 also, and i am only short/average height, and i find the screen relatively comfortable to use one handed. So my thoughts are the 5.5 on the edge should be reasonable for one handed operation. And no I don't have abnormally large hands.

T mobile pre-orders, guys go check your orders. My shipping label was created yesterday and will most likely ship out monday via 1 day/overnight.

Go to UPS.com

go to track by reference

use the phone number you ordered the phone for in the reference part

choose United States as country

input your shipping zip code.

leave dates alone

click track.

I do not have anything new showing using that method. I only have the cellspot router showing that I received last week.

I have my actual tracking number and IMEI, but it's waiting to be shipped out tomorrow.

Yeah I have an actual tracking number now, but UPS is reporting billing information received. Though, the information also says "est delivery date of 2/29/16". Oh I hope I do get it tomorrow and not Tuesday :D

hmmm I still have no IMEI or tracking showing on my tmo account.

For those of you who have info what varients did you order?

How are you people getting your phones so soon? They aren't supposed to be delivered until March 11th.

Also is anyone else going to choose the Gear S2 watch over the Gear VR? It's basically twice the price.

I havent heard of anyone actually getting the devices yet. Just shipping info & only from T-Mobile. Also the Gear S2 is only available for verizon customers.

Just got my tracking info with delivery sheduled for tomorrow.... 10 days ahead of when I thought I would get it..

That's crazy. T-mobile delivering 10 days before anyone else in the US can get one. Lucky.

Yep I talked to a few customers today (I work for T-Mobile) who received their phones today. Im pretty happy about getting mine on the first though. Still way earlier then I was expecting.

I was a little worried today because the shipping status did not change from "billing info received" which means tmo just initiated a shipping label, but UPS doesn't have the package. And upon calling tmo customer service told me the phone would be shipped out on the 10th :(. Then, boom! Package Tracker updated and it's my S7! with an Origin Scan, meaning UPS has the package with a rescheduled delivery for tomorrow!

Especially let us know if the task killer is still extra aggressive. This was one of the biggest reasons that I didn't get a GS6 last year.

I really want to preorder the Samsung battery backpack for my s7e but I want to know how great the battery life is on the phone before I go spending $100 on a crappy case with a heavy battery that'll only give me a 50% charge.

Post results!

I got the email from ups. Mine has been delivered. Now to finish up the work day and go play with Tut.

Just a sneak peek

my Girlfriend pre ordered her S7e from verizon today. Maybe she will get before the 11th

Fuck it, i gotta wait until the 11th, and if Optus aren't smart enough to send it out on the 10th, I'm waiting until the 14th :(

Can somebody with the US model post some benches of the Snapdragon 820 (I believe yous get it), ours is the Exynos (Aus).

Got mine in hand... First Impressions..

Hardware.. Fucking Beautiful..

Software... Not Fucking Beautiful at all.. I have been using the google now launcher on my G4 which didnt make too many changes from google stock anyway. So currently I am a little annoyed. I will probably end up going back to the google now launcher, but for the time being I am going to try touchwiz..

Also the Spigen NeoHybrid case for it is flawless I couldn't ask for a better fit.. I have a total of 4 cases for my G4 that I have cracked so I am apparently hard on case's so I am not sure how the plastic ring around this case is going to hold up.

How'd i know they blow the software again? Thanks for the confirmation on the Spigen cases fitting well, we're stocking those in shortly. Had some dramas with the power buttons on the slim armors with the iPhone 6, had to poke holes in the fuckers to soften em up.

All 3 buttons are nice & crisp to hit. No extra mush at all.
