Just wondering who else has been holding on to their TG-16 and/or Turbo Duo systems?

Since prices have skyrocketed for this stuff I could sell my collection for a pretty penny, but it is the one system I really never want to get rid of.

I have 101 original copies of games as well as a bunch of burned CDs.

Was looking up prices for some of them just out of curiosity and saw that a good number of the games I paid maybe $5-10 back in the day are now selling for $60-100.

A few of the games I have I can't even find a mention of any listing on Ebay.... like Valis IV and Street Fighter II Special

Got almost all my games from a used book/games/electronics store.

System is a TG-16 with the CD add-on. Have 5 controllers and the 5-port tap.

Street Fighter II Requires the Arcade Card system card.. I have the Arcade Card Pro :-D

man i miss my tg16. wish I had kept it. I had the hand held as well with the tv tuner.

I still have my TG-16 CD somewhere. Did not have all that many games for it. The ones remember having and liking are Dungeon Explorers, Neutopia, Cadash, Keith Courage for card games and I had Dracula X, YS Book 1+II, Valis II, Cosmic Fantasy for CD. May have a few more have to check the box in the basement.

Have to see if the new Retron or equivalent plays TG-16 games. I still have an old Retron 3.

Damn. Can I come over to your house?

I used to have a TG-16. I remember getting rid of my genesis and getting a TG-16. It just had a
"crispness" that the Sega didn't have.

Great

I had a chance to get a Turbo-duo for $20 a LONG LONG TIME ago but passed. I hate myself forever now.

I think that it is right up there with the Dreamcast as a sentimental favorite.

I cannot believe the prices on ebay, holy cow. I remember looking at ebay a few years ago for a tg-16 and the prices were so good I thought I would just wait. mistake.

I remember seeing a Turbo Duo in a Toys-R-Us on clearance for like $50 or $75 way back in the day. I was like.. what it that? I had never even heard of it. Their lack of marketing in the US was a big mistake IMO.

Wish I could have gotten it.. but I was like 12 or 13 at the time and had no money.

Years later I paid about $150 for my TG-16 w/CD setup.

You can get a TG-16 emulator and all the ROMs and pretty much all the CD ISOs are available from emulation places now. The best emulator is a paid one.. it is called MagicEngine.
http://www.magicengine.com/

The trial version is time limited to a few minutes of play, but it is well worth the $20 if you don't have a real console or want to play on your laptop or whatever. I own a copy. I bought it years ago when it was $16.

I do.
And my original Turbopad is still in working condition.
Actually hooked it up to my 60 inch a few months ago and it didnt look bad at all. Used that time to finally beat Wataru(Kieth Courage) for the first time ever, cause you know, that game blows.
I found Soldier Blade locally last year for a high price(Don't remember how much it was).

Mednafen.
Magic Engine hasn't been updated in years and Arcade Card games run like crap. Strider Hiryu, Art of Fighting and SuperGrafx games are unplayable. But run great on Mednafen. (Download the GUI for your sanity.)

And BTW, you cant find Street Fighter II' because it was never released in NA. Japan only. It is also a HUcard game(The largest one ever made, 20Mbits), it does not need any System/Arcade card at all, those are strictly for CD titles.

i have one with a messed up CD dock and the CDs won't play. I gave up on buying games and just bought an everdrive for it. TG stuff is just god awful expensive.

I had no idea mednefen even existed... nice.

I know Street Fighter II was not released in NA... The only copy I even saw on Ebay though was a HuCard that came with a TurboExpress.

Is the music as good on the HuCard version as it on the CD version?

And there are a lot of other Japan released only games on Ebay.

That's awesome to still have such an old console working. Does the CD-ROM still spin and read discs OK? A lot of people (as I've read on forums) had their motor circuit board go bad.

I got rid of mine last year. It's still "in the family" so I'm only a plane ticket away from playing some old games.

My favorite CD game was Ys Book I & II.

Very cool stuff gentlemen!

One of my biggest retro regrets is never picking up a TG-16 or a Neo Geo.

I loved Keith courage, I can see why people hate it but for some reason I loved it. The underworld part was so cool.

Ys was so good for the time it was the bomb.

Street Fighter 2' is only Hucard.
There was never a CD version. You must be thinking of Street Fighter 1(Fighting Street).
The music is faithful, sounds good for the limited space of the Hucard, and the whole soundtrack is there. But still, 2 less sound channels than the SNES is quite obvious (not to mention lower khz). It is definitely a worthy port, one of the best on the PC engine, especially for a non-CD game.

Don't have a TG-16 anymore but I do have a modded original Xbox with a TG emulator and ALL of the roms. :)

Well, I must have the only CD copy of Street Fighter II Special in existence then.. I will take of pic of it this evening and post it. It is a Japanese game, so who knows

I can't find any reference to it on Google either.... hrmmmm

I have Fighting Street as well.

EDIT: I am a tard.. it is Fatal Fury Special. Not sure why I was thinking it was Street Fighter II.

Yep, the CD worked last time I powered it up.

I wish I had hung onto mine.... the TG-16 was easily my favorite and most fondly remembered '16-bit' game console. To me the games on the Turbografx always seemed way more colorful and vibrant than those on the SNES and Genesis - and the sound was totally wicked.

One of my favorite games for sound on the TG16 is Galaga '90. Play that on a system that supports stereo sound (ie an original console with a TurboBooster) with a good sound system and be blown away.

I'm strictly emulated now, but I had a pretty nice collection of the games even up until a few years back. I also hacked my own TurboBooster Plus together, but installing connectors in back cover, and running jumpers to the pins of the CD connector. I still have my Chi no Rondo disc though. Couldn't ever get rid of that one. It took me a while to find it, as by the time I wanted it people were already hording it. I have a huge soft spot for this system and its games.

Galga '90 is probably only behind in time played when compared to Neutopia 1 and 2, and The Ys series on the TG-16.

On second thought, maybe Blazing Lasers or Raiden may be ahead of Galaga '90 in play time.

I also put a ton of time into Cosmic Fantasy 2. I must've played 10-15 hours just at the very beginning to try and get my character up high enough to kill the end boss at the beginning of the game.. with a butter knife.
It didn't work, but I did actually hit him for a few damage instead of dying the first time he hit me.

So many awesome games on the TG-16.

Planning on adding component video out on it... mod board is only $25 + shipping.

Must have played Y's Book I & II for hundreds and hundreds of hours when I got it.

Somewhere over the years in moving around the system (and the nice carry case for it) seems to have vanished from my collection of "stuff", but I do still have the original CD for Y's Book I & II right here next to me. Ripped it to an image some time ago to use with Magic Engine.

Always loved how you could play it in an audio player to listen to the music, even though the first track was a verbal warning that playing the tracks could damage your player. :p

Oh yeah.. I forgot about the warning on the CDs. There are a number of different warnings on the different CDs.

Sooo.. hooked it up last night to make sure everything was till working since I haven't used the CD in quite a while.

Well, the CD was frozen up. I had to take it apart and free it up and then remove the idler gear and lube it and also cleaned/lubed the worm gear as well. All is working again.

And I now have a Turbo Everdrive on the way as well as a couple Avenue Pad 6 controllers.

Planning on doing the Component mod in the near future as well. The instructions say to make sure your TV supports 240p first... the only problem is that I can't with the TG-16 as the Y input is coupled with the composite video input on my TV and I don't have any other devices that output at 240p.

Great job! Any chance you could post pics of the inside worm gear that you fixed? I'd like to fix mine too.

Here is a youtube video of the repair.

Note: He uses WAAAAAYYYY too much grease on the worm drive.

I used a bit of Synthetic Super Lube with PTFE on mine.

You also will want to grease the shaft for the idler gear.. the one he replaces. If yours is broken, you can get one off of Ebay for around $9-$10

There are other videos on youtube as well.

A few other things can go wrong with these. but not too bad to fix if you are careful.
