ASUS PG279Q 144hz 1440P IPS G-Sync

I'm curious. Why did you mount the top row with a big gap between it and the lower row?

I game on the lower row, the extra screens are for my day trading work so the gap is ok for me

Very happy with my PG279Q as well - no major issues, great picture, slight BLB but not too noticeable - overclocked to 165 Hz and gaming on it is great. I was on the fence about buying it but after several weeks with the display I am really enjoying it.

Are you seeing this "part of the screen is darker than the other part" issue that some people have mentioned in this thread?

Not really, ran DispalGUI right after getting the monitor and also did black/white screen comparisons.
Personally, I am really happy with it.

If you don't notice any problems, don't go looking for anymore. Don't look for flaws if your happy with the monitor.

Exactly. Many wouldn't even have known about the "flaws" if they hadn't have read forums like these!

I would generally agree but I am a bit werry about the evenness and drastic change of backlight. Nearly all monitors have a -20-30% change in brightness one way or another but rarely is it so even and over such a massive area of the screen. I wonder if it is just more noticeable due to how consistent and large of a change. I also know some people have shown worse brightness changes than the tftcentral review. They didnt really complain about the difference but I wonder if going from (making this up as an example) 18% change to a 22% change passes some perceivable threshold.

Also lower back lighting isn't that big of an issue unless it jacks colors and one person was saying there was a noticeable yellow cast on the upper part and i can see that making the backlighting issue a big problem.

Lastly, I wonder how bad the back light bleed is. I never have seen "real" back light bleed before so either I am ignorant or never had a screen that has had it so I am really interested to see the difference between this "bad" screen vs my Dells. I am very interested because i love to learn and experience this stuff and I want to know what it is like :D

I'll get this eventually to try and see if i get a good one or is I cna tolerate it but that wont be til January or February...more things on my list that super secede this.

The flaws with uniformity on my PG279Q were very obvious.

Here are comparisons between the X34 I'm using now vs PG279Q, I had both calibrated to 6500K, 120 cd/m2

question...are those taken on auto or fixed settings? If you didnt program white balance, ISO, aperture, and so on then those photos are pointless for comparison.

if both screen were in the same picture thats a different story plus angles are different too

Auto, while I realize it's not an exact comparison it does look like what I saw in person.

I probably just got a bad one. But given how many people also reported this issue, I didn't feel like trying another

I received an email from Newegg yesterday saying that they refunded my monitor when I had sent it in for a replacement. I've noticed that they have been out of stock for a while and I haven't seen any in stock since they received mine back. I'm wondering if Asus is finally doing something about quality control and Newegg knows they wont have them for a while. What sucks is I am going to have to return my current one to Amazon and I will be without one until who knows when. I guess I can keep an eye out for the Acer XB271HU since they seem to be doing better.

I'm curious on what brightness level you guys are running at.

My panel shipped with default 80/100 brightness, and I'm currently at 60/100.

Also, what 'gaming mode' are you guys on? I left mine on the default racing mode

It's a good think ASUS promised no supply issues with this monitor.

Maybe they're addressing the QC problems.

I just got one of these and it was made in July 2015. Default settings were 80/60/100/100/100. Anyone else get one lately?

Edit: sorry, thought i was posting in the pg278q thread :p

Man, what is the deal with these things? Impossible to find anywhere. Did Asus do a "quiet recall", and halt sales until they fix the BLB issue?

I just sold my PG278Q to pick one of these up, and gaming on 60hz is making me so sad.

Yeah, no kidding. I figured I would try the panel lottery but the only place I found that has an estimated ship date was Fry's Electronics. Yesterday they had it listed with an estimated ship date of Feb 8th. Today of course that date has changed to Feb 9th. They probably have no clue either.

i hope so

I bought a PG279Q a week ago, here is my experience with it so far:

No dead pixels, no dust, no uniformity issues.
Default factory calibration had too cool color temperature, around 7200.

The brightness is insanely high, and the default brightness of 80 is simply blinding.
Spyder sensor software recommended these brightness settings for some or my ambient light scenarios:
- strong natural light at noon, a lot of sun entering the room but not directly on the monitor: brightness 44
- night, average ambient light, about 7 x 15W incandescent small lamps: brightness 21
- night, very weak ambient light, one 15W incandescent small lamp: brightness 14
- I never use it with complete dark room, probably even lower brightness would be appropriate for that

The IPS glow is bigger than on my previous S-IPS display - it can get quite extreme - very easy to mistake for light bleeding.
There is a minor light bleed in the right-bottom corner, but only noticeable on complete dark room and black screen and only if you know where to look.
The AG filter is lighter than on my previous monitor, it reflects a bit more light but image looks more sharp. I think they reached a good compromise.
It has a very premium look and feel. The OSD design is very well done.

I've found a bug: when you activate ULMB the screen activates it and works ok while the OSD is still visible. But after you exit the OSD, the entire screen goes blank. If you toggle OSD on it goes fully visible again. Workaround: turn monitor off, wait 5 seconds, turn it back on.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with it, Gsync is really amazing.

BTW 7200 is not gamma...i dont even think gamma goes that high even on paper.

That is the forgetting the term...ah color temp

Yes, of course I meant color temperature. I fixed it.

Where'd you find it in stock? I can't find one anywhere.
None of the websites had it in stock in my country, I made a special order and they ordered it from a higher layer distributor. The wait was not that bad thou, only waited for it about a week. This is in Europe and I paid 842 EUR for it - ouch.

NIB, Got a Nowinstock email this morning and ordered it before I had a chance to chicken out. I also got a notice this weekend about the ASUS store having it but I didn't care for the ASUS ordering system so I passed on them.

Wondering if the issue I'm seeing with my PG279Q is being seen by others...

I'm seeing a big issue with enabling ULMB with the monitor.

- I set the refresh rate of the monitor to 120hz via the windows display panel - everything works fine.
- I then enter the monitor's menu using the joystick/buttons - everything is still fine.
- I select and enable ULMB - everything is still fine.
- I then exit the on-screen menu - EVERYTHING IS NOT FINE. The screen goes black, and I can see the desktop VERY faintly (I think the backlight may be turned off)
- I then turn the monitor off via the power button and let it sit for 5 seconds
- I then turn the monitor back on via the power button and my desktop will come back - ULMB is also now enabled
- If I do anything with the on screen menu, it does the same thing when exiting the menu - screen goes black. And I have to power cycle the monitor to get anything back.

I am running a 970GTX and the latest drivers. Monitor is connected via the DP cord that came with it.

Should I RMA?

you need to set the settings for ULMB and how logn to stroke and what brightness level. You have to use 100% brightness or it will be basically a black screen and when using ULMB always play in the dark.

Totally familiar with ULMB. I had a PG278Q before and it worked fine. Strobe length is set to 100 and brightness is 100%.

When I say that the screen is black, I mean really really black, not just dim.

*Shrugs* sounds like its at the lowest setting to me. Is it not keeping the setting? like you set it and it defaults to super low?

Nope, it's like the backlight is entirely off. The monitor keeps the setting of 100 strobe length when i check the menu, but when i exit the menu, it goes black again until a on/off reset. Oh well, if no one else is seeing this, i guess its bad hardware and i'll RMA.

I am thinking of grabbing one of the Amazon Warehouse Deals monitors. They have a few that seem pretty cheap, I'm guessing people returned them since they don't understand how IPS displays are supposed to look.

I've had mine for almost a month now. Havent tried ULMB but this makes me want try it to test if it works properly. I'll post some findings when I get around it since we are in the process of moving.

let me know how it works. follow the TFTcentral review.

Anyone have a newer version and know if QC has improved?

What about the warranty? It would be an open box then, right? Does Asus honor the warranty or they just don't care as usual?

Haven't been paying a ton of attention to new monitors the last few years, but this one seems to finally tick all the boxes for me: 144Hz+, IPS panel, GSync and 1440p+. I was interested in ultrawide but I think the other features are more compelling to me at this point, plus 1440p is actually driveable by a single GPU. My current monitor is a Dell 2407 VA panel from 2007 that is still going strong.

That said this thing is $1,150CAD and I am not paying that much with the apparent QC issues. Is there anything coming down the pipe from other brands that is going to force Asus to lower the price on this? I'd be more comfortable in the $600USD/$800CAD range. Maybe by Christmas 2016?
