For $65 you can go for the 256GB "3D" SSD -- probably samsung 3d nand, so pretty good. Wonder if it's sata or pcie? Then just add a HD for storage from newegg later
 
i wouldnt bother with that SSD. Its more likely an EVO and the EVO eats shit at 256GB. The 512GB evo is pretty solid. but going lower capacity performance takes a big hit. (going off memory so i could be mistaken but i am pretty sure i recall that correctly)

The only 3 issues that exist is
Crap RAM. I wonder if the MB woudl support 3000 14/15 CL RAM

Cooling could be jerry rigged. PSU could be replaced. RAM you maybe boned on. Otherwise this deal is stupidly awesome

I've had an 840 evo since the it launched basically (500gb) and never had an issue. That said the pro is better. I've also installed a bunch of the 850 evo 250gb and I had one come work for a Windows install and then fail within 12 hours. Wasn't really a big deal.
 
THe stock build for $850 is a great machine for family. Thanks OP... but that PSU...
 
I have a Dell XPS 8700 that I picked up for $550 from their outlet a year ago, Core i7-4790, 12GB etc, its not the best pc built but it was certainly a lot cheaper than trying to build it, and if you aren't picky the PSU is going to be fine. These machines are not designed to be upgraded, what they are is decently built, quiet, and with a warranty, and will save you $$ and time.

go read the fucking reviews....my guess you dont ever bother reading reviews huh? This is common knowledge that 256GB drive almost always eat shit compared to 500GB and greater drives (lets not even consider how crappy 128GB drives are). It is how the technology is made and works. I just glanced at this and saw as much as a 50% gain in performance from 250GB to 500GB EVO. It wouldn't surprise me if there were even rare cases of 2X but i did see several around the 50% gain in performance.

Also that SSD is a stupid buy considering your paying 50 bucks for it after discount and loosing a 2TB 7200 RPM drive. That 2TB is like 50 bucks on its own of not a bit more.

these build are great to get a spare gaming rig or if your broke and need something decent or can't build one on your own. They beat the crap out of the god offal robberies that other brands try selling prebuilts for. Its like buying a craigs list computer but new.

Benchmarks and real world performance are not even close to being the same. Also, the SSD would be covered under the warranty of the computer and it would be easier just to add a 2TB hard drive along with it if you need it. I do not have a need for a new machine but, this would be a great one even with that SSD.

Actually, it probably isn't as big of a difference as the benchmarks make it out to be. Either is a massive improvement over ANY mechanical drive and unless you are doing a lot of read/write operations the difference is unlikely to be all that apparent. In normal every day use the benefit vs added cost is debatable.

*Shrug* Spend your money on what you want but do not try to claim you can see a real world difference with your own eyes and not with benchmarks. (Reality will get you every time. :D) I can tell you they are not noticeable because I work on computers every single day. Now, if you are talking hard drive to SSD, then you are talking a hugh difference.

Going to an extreme Pro was a god send in day to day usage and moving to this 950 PRO is even helping. Working on showing it in various ways. Your niave to beclieve and follow that silly montra of oh you won't see a difference blah blah. Thats the same idiotic crap that SB users keep saying even tough HW and SKL have a 20-30% boost in single thread...well that single thread won't matter blah blah (ok if you say so). But i will stop wastiing my time and wont bother trying to explain IBMs research on response times since everyone is more than glad to be ignorant. (not like it wouldnt be the 50th time i posted it in this forum for the ignorant people here that lack an understanding on sub 1S response times.

BTW if 100 vs 150MBps doesnt make a big difference in the real world your straight up delusional. You might be able to argue 1500 vs 1000 MBps but not 150 vs 100. Hell I bought this mushkin USB drive that does 150MBps read and write and its hell of a lot better than m SAndisk Extreme USB that did like 50-60MBps in writes and 80-100MBps reads.. The time saved is huge even transferring 100GBs of files. But hey lets throw the most simple example out of the world because it totally isnt real world. What the fuck ever.

I had one a few days. Slow as crap. Locked up etc... I was going to put an SSD in it, but after opening the case, and looking around, I just returned it. I'm sure I got a lemon and a good one should be good, but left a bad taste in my mouth. HP was excellent about returns tho.

The 850 Pro is only for those who need a higher TBW (Which few need) and brutalize their drive by multitasking and even then the gap isn't very noticeable.

boots are irrelevant to me on a desktop. Over the next 6 months or so I am going to be making a study on SATA vs NVMe vs XPoint with and without encryptions. If you have a solid way for me to measure accurate the time it takes to open and close any program in windows let me know. I want that....badly.

BTW,,,i guess i'll post this for the 51st time now....go read IBMs research. I am an advocate of sub 1s response in everything. I "hope" to also try to show in this process the impact of single thread. No one has studied or showed whats the current source of program delay...memory? SSD? single thread? I think currently it is single thread. I also hope to squeeze in there a way to see how much single thread plays a role in load times but again....got a way for me to accurately measure a programs load time?

Which model is your Mushkin drive? I'm looking to pick up a couple of fast flash drives. I remember that SanDisk one from a while back; still have it saved on my Amazon wishlist even though it's been surpassed by now.

Thanks bro. I was reading about the P20 earlier...that's certainly impressive. :) The new SanDisk Extreme Pro looks good too but that Lexar seems like the choice drive right now.

But, now I am thinking of doing something like this via an external enclosure or cable instead...the laptops I'm using have eSATA ports so I wouldn't be limited to USB. Hmm...

this is the 24-GB drive i have. Dont trust rated speed. If you read through newegg people couldnt even get the 300MBps or whatever in ATTO except for one person. I get 100-150MBps in read and writes in all tests even ATTO. Only one reviewer got the mystical 300MBps but I am not complaining because last I checked (6-12 months ago) its still the fastest drive.

I forgot the exact numbers but it reads like 1-2x faster on average over my Extreme Pro USB drive and writes 2-3x faster so when your transferring 200GB of files it is a god send. I can't fathom how people are cool with transferring 100GBs at like USB 2.0 speeds -_-

If you guys find a faster one please let me know. I want to stay up on the faster drives. Currently i am happy but if one gets released that us 300MBps + constant in speed I may buy it. This think was only 120 bucks for 240GB USB so I was quite happy with the performance and price even if it tops out at 150MBps.

Also if you get this muskin venture you want to take it apart and redo the TIM inside with ICD. It'll help prevent it from throttling under stressful transfers. PM me if you want photos of the disassembly. I need to dig throw shit to find them

Zero an external SSD is nice but its large. This USB has like first gen SSD performance in your pocket :D Also your better off doing an m.2 USB enclosure vs a 2.5in drive Google on amazon USB 3.0 M.2 enclosure. It is SATA interface but you can still get like a 500GB EVO in there I think.

You really should put IMO in front of your posts. Because that's what it is, an opinion.

Unless you are doing transfer's of 1GB+ files Day in and day out on an SSD, you would rarely ever see the difference from a PPRO or an EVO drive, 256/512MB, ect some OTHER manufacturer drives besides Samsung EVO/PRO have drastic differences, but these 2 are farely close. Without doing a file transfer, if someone sat 2 identical laptops down in front of you, one with a 500GB EVO and one with a 500GB Pro, I bet it would be hard for you to tell the difference between the two. This is coming from someone who has owned both, and I also own an Asus G752VY-DH72 laptop with a NVMe that transfers at 1500/1500. Even the difference between that and an SSD, is hard to see.

Again, it all depends on what kind of load you are going to put on the drive. It sounds like you copy large files to and from your SSD constantly, which doesn't sound like the scenario of most people which is to use an SSD as a Boot/OS drive..

Yeah, very good deal considering the CPU and GPU value alone then factor time saved building your own pc and warranty/support(if hp is any good).
