New data would suggest that Windows 10 haters are actually in the minority.

Windows 10's user satisfaction was impressively high: Of those who said they have the new operating system, just over 60% picked "favorable" or "very favorable" when asked their take. (The former outpolled the latter of the two responses by a ratio of 4:1.). About 1 in 10 said Windows 10 had left an "unfavorable" or "very unfavorable" impression.

That's not a good number either. That is way too high a minority for that to be considered good news. I guess that is expected given how desperate MS is at pushing people into their new telemetry platform.

The entire findings are a joke. The (online - red flag #1) survey was conducted in September, and whatever was being measured is completely skewed off the map. 37% of the respondents said they were in the Windows Insider preview program And pegging a 30%+ share of consumers in the US running 10 doesn't match with even the rosiest of bad analytics.

lol

This statistic alone doesnt give a decent picture of the reality.
They need to survey how many have reverted back to an older OS or ditched Windows altogether, just to avoid Windows 10.

But then you would expect the people who stuck with it would give a majority finding it ok.
Given that, 60% is pretty shameful.
This must be partially because it was effectively forced on many of them and it isnt a pleasant OS.
MS could have made Windows 10 nice and they could have made it none intrusive.
But agenda.

It's friggin HORRIBLE.

Everytime something needs to "reset" or you just use the selection, the machine boots to

A) I can't find the OS

or

B) Your account has been disabed, talk to 'your system admin' ... it's ME and it's the admin account, wtf.

Rebooting but hitting esc, reselecting the boot drive and starting again finally gets you back to booting right.

Fuckers at HP didn't make Windows 7 drivers, is there a way to use the Win 10 drivers for a Win 7 install?

Works solid here on a 2008 Thinkpad X200 and on an Opteron 6300 workstation it detected all the hardware and automatically installed all the drivers so I didn't have to do it manually. On a touch capable device the UI is a huge improvement over 8.1.

were there thumbs up there azz before or after being asked this question\survey? ;)

sounds about as trustworthy as msnbc reporting clinton is 25 points ahead of sanders in a recent poll. who did they ask? 1k sample size, are you kidding? where did this data come from (IDC isnt reputable...)? wats the methodology??

w10 is radioactive as far as im concerned, they are pushing the marketing spin bullshit really hard & that by itself should be a huge red flag

I'm not part of the 60%.

Same here,

I have had more BSOD's on my surface pro 3 after installing windows 10 than all other OS's combined, i'm averaging 3 different messages per week, now its a w32 kernel error, before it was a page fault.

Windows 8.1 was far better than this heap. And I don't trash talk MS OS's either, but this has been a worse experience than windows ME

I've been using my Surface Pro 3 as my Insider device since October 2014, it's been the running latest Insider fast ring build since that time. Certainly lots of bugs but blue screens have been pretty rare. Running 11099 on it now and it's been rock solid. Just finished watch the Broncos/Steelers game on it using the CBS Sports app. Worked fine.

Total of 8 computers running in the house. All with 10 except my wife's laptop which is running 8.1. All of them are running solid and just work. Like every other OS I've used in the last 3 decades.

The regression that Surface Pro owners experience going from 8.1 to 10 just isn't worth it based on everything I read. Perhaps the next big (Redstone?) update, MS will remember to consider their own hardware.

Same here on four computers and a network. It just works.

I have a Surface 3, a Surface Pro 3 and Surface Book, all 10 with the Surface Pro 3 always running the Insider build fast version. The Surface 3 and Pro 3 have blue screened combined once since the 10240 build I believe. Maybe once or twice more than that but the Surface 3 did blue screen last week after the January update which it had never before then I believe. The Surface Book has been the quirkiest with almost all of the problems related to the dual GPUs, docking and well known sleep issues. But it hasn't blue screened since late November I think.

Whatever the case, if he's having that many issues with Windows 10 on a Surface Pro 3, something is going on I would think. It just shouldn't do that and plenty of people are running 10 on SP3 without these kinds of issues.

The only thing that consistently bothers me about is windows update. They've made it as intrusive and uninformative as they possibly could. It's doesn't tell you how big updates are. Doesn't let you select which updates to install. It pops up this giant blue notification ribbon right in the middle of the screen that interrupts whatever you're doing to tell you there are updates.

Other than that it's been identical to 7 for my purposes. I use the UI basically the same way. I haven't had any weird crashing problems on any of my PCs or laptops.

Would have liked to continue to try out Win 10 but had 2 issues

1- HTPC would no longer play mp4, mk4 files. Tried different codecs and still no joy.

2- Asus laptop, the DVD drives goes poof and is gone. Tried the uninstall sata drivers and reg hacks methods. Could never get the DVD back.

Reverted back to Win 7 Ult 64 bits and all is good to go again. So Win 7 it is for me.

I wonder how much of it is Intel driver's fault? Seems like Intel has always been an issue Surface Pro's success with late arrival of Broadwell causing throttling on Surface Pro 3 and now driver issues plaguing Surface Pro 4.

These containers are supported natively in Windows 10. They should work out of the box with Windows Media Player and the TV & Movies app. I've got 6 different media programs installed on my main devices that work with mp4s and mkvs perfectly.

Zero problems so far, it actually fixed some issues with my atom based tablets.

I'm happy with Windows 10, it's fixed many issues I previously had with 7/8/8.1. I might be in the minority here on Hardforum, though.

There are absolutely no problems playing MP4 and MKV files on Windows 10. I have multiple machines with wildly different hardware that do just that daily.

And when in doubt, K-Lite and MPC still work flawlessly with Win 10. As does FLV Player as far as I know.

I did have an issue accessing my terminal for my SG200 switch though, using edge, had to use a work around.

I have had a pretty decent amount of display drivers (to be fair I had them in 8.1 also), suspected thermal issues.

IE seems to lead to the most crashes, I have tried Edge, but its lack of plugin support and odd CPU Usage just makes it useless, and I just can use Chrome or Firefox, they just don't fee "right" lol.

To be fair, I tax my Pro 3 pretty darn hard but I would have never expected this many crashes when 8.1 was solid and reliable.

I'm happy with my Windows 10 experience at this point. It fixes all the issues I had with Windows 7, like overly large Windows borders and the dated graphic style (yes, not big). Siritana is totally worthless but you can turn her off or just not use her easily enough. There are still a few rough edges I'd like smoothed out like the fact that they're still using the old file manager app from Windows Vista and Settings still doesn't actually contain all the settings. The built in Audio App is crashy and the built in Video App is featureless, but those are easily replaced. Still much better than Windows 8.1.

I'm actually finding Cortana pretty useful. She's pretty accurate and fast with voice commands, from opening programs to web sites to web searches. If I'm in my home office working or playing I almost never type a web search these days, there's no need. I get that some people will think whatever they will but this is a very practical way to interact with a computer.

I need to get a higher end microphone as my current POS doesn't work well with cortana.

and thats why im still on 8.1 on my surface pro 2. I've heard reports like these.

I need my surface to have a 100% bugfree, uptime. I only use it in school. programming and onenote are 99% of my usage. If the device on win10 decides to crap out while im taking notes i'd be furious.

I have to do a system restore on my HTPC and will try out Win 10 again.

Thing is I would get the sound but no video when I play the mentioned file types. I am running a embedded solution MB/CPU/GPU "GIGABYTE GA-C1007UN-D" board. Does very well in a HTPC environment and netflix, hulu, youtube and so on.

After web browsing, desktop OneNote 2016 is the most heavily used app I use on my Surface devices. I've had no issues with it on Windows 10 save one. The top pen button will launch OneNote when clicked, very cool. Windows 10 only supported using the button for opening the metro version of OneNote until recently with an update to the Surface app that now allows the pen button to be assigned to launching any program. Still there were some issues with how that worked so I whipped up a little C# program that took care of all of that to the point where it now works well, but still only on my Surface Book.

No problems with Windows 10 for me got all my computers on it including a 5 year old Asus Ul30a running on it like a champ.

No complaints here, although I tend to customize things like replace Windows Notepad with Notepad++, install VLC, Firefox, Chrome, 7Zip, tweak things using Ultimate Windows Tweaker to remove the shortcut arrows and the -Shortcut.

It's a worthy update from Windows 8/8.1. Windows 7.... YMMV. I upgraded from Windows 7 because I was using the Home edition, and facing the 16GB memory limit.

I believe in Windows 8, under certain methods of installation with the upgrade media you had to create a custom refresh point with recimg. However, this shouldn't be the case if it came preinstalled.

While it's not perfect, I don't think really it's that bad. I currently have it installed on 4 out of 6 active computers here and there's no issue with it.

Have it on as low as a Dual Core 2.9, the Surface 3, a 3570k and a 4930k and it runs like an os should on each of them.

I was hesitent to install it on the gaming rig since i heard there was SLI issues initially, but if it's all fixed I might. Though I prefer having a windows 7 and 8 machine here to jump to when I'm troubleshooting stuff for people.

Thumbs up. Works just fine for me. Then again, every single version since I first installed Windows 3.11 has always worked fine for me. Maybe it's because I also build my on PCs starting at Intel 386 using name brand parts of my choosing.

Will try it when I have to, in 2020 when support runs out for Windows 7. And this latest underhanded bit with Skylake cpus requiring it... only pushes me away.

If it ain't broke...
