Coming in 2018....Psychonauts 2!

Saw the funding news last night, I thought about it but I still havent played the original. Feel kinda awkward about kickstarting a sequel to a game I haven't played.

I was going to support the game but ultimately decided to pass. I don't know if I misread it or not, but I swear when I first looked at funding the game you could pledge $30 and all it got you was a psychonaughts 1 (which I loved and bought for myself and gifted to another) and it allowed you to buy the 2nd at a discounted price. On a side note, I will definitely be buying the 2nd game at some point.

People need to take off their nostalgia goggles and stop throwing Kickstarter cash at celebrity game devs.

Especially Tim Schafer.

Here's me (ginger, drunk, tongue) with Tim Schafer (even more drunk) and a friend of mine (also drunk)

Return to your usual thread...

So we can look forward to that 2018 release date being pushed back and then finally getting 2/3 of a game in 2021? That is only if Tim doesn't turn around begging for more money after this initial $3m is (mis)appropriated somewhere else.

It was. You had to be in for at least $39 to get a copy of Psychonauts 2, if I remember correctly.

The original is up there with Banjo Kazooie and Jet Force Gemini, but after Broken Age, I'm not sure Double Fine has it in them to make another that lives up to the name.

Not after DF-9 and Broken Age.

Assuming it's good, I will buy it when it's released. The original is still one of my favorite games.

Will it have controller support? I wanted to like Psychnauts, but the controls sucked. That was a game that screamed for controller support. And I say that as a non-controller player.

Wat? I played the original with my logitech controller when it originally came out...

Yep, me too. I played it first with an old Thrustmaster Firestorm pad, then later with X360 and Logitech pads. Game works flawlessly with them. (yes on PC, is there any other way to play? :p )

Hmmm. I'll have to try again. Last time I tried was on Linux and it didn't recognize the controller, but I definitely tried with a PS2 controller on my PC.

It's actually one of the better PC games from that time period in this regard. You can set it up how you like, invert joystick axes, etc.

On the original topic, I will definitely buy this game. I didn't back it, but I will buy when it's available. No matter how much I like it, and no matter how much I personally trust the dev, I'm only allowing myself to back a couple of projects at a time. Once I see how they turn out, I could potentially back more.

Probably one of the best platform (3D platform anyway) games I've ever played.

The controller support was just fine in Psychonauts. The ONLY thing that really sucked about it is that, since it's before the 360 controller was named the defacto development device, it still used "button 1, button 2, etc" promts. There is a 3rd party tweak, however, that will let you replace those dialogs with the proper 360 controller buttons. I'll try to find it for you (or anyone else for that matter)

Those prompts worked perfectly when I first played it, because I had numbered buttons then. Later though after the 360-standardization though, you basically had to get the feel for everything, and do it by touch.
