What is the single coolest app you ever installed

Shazam and Google Sky Map.

That was like 5 years ago though.

Pushbullet is pretty rad. NPR One. Nothing has really blown me away in a while.

Nova Launcher, Push Bullet, Google Now (perfect to play/do things while driving, totally hands free), Clash of Clans, hah.

Bus/generic transit tracking app that I wrote myself (reverse engineered some provider's api)

Works offline across multiple providers... Terrible commute, but less fuss with it

Maybe I don't have high expectations but I still think SoundHound is amazing. Hear a random song, click a button on your phone and you know exactly what it is

SwiftKey. So much better than the default keyboard.

Swype started the swiping keyboard revolution. SwiftKey innovated autocomplete to finishing your sentences. SwiftKey then added Flow for the swiping keyboard action, while Swype stopped innovating after getting bought by Nuance, cause they want their voice dictation on top. Google keyboard even added swiping too.

Well, yeah, coolest app and the most useful app ever is SwiftKey.

Yeah you asked for the 'single' but whatever...:p

World Lens
Google Rewards
Soul Calibur
tTorrent

Ingress. I've been playing for almost a year. The local community aspect is really cool to me.

Google Translate is, to this day, the only app I've installed on a smartphone that legitimately impressed my mother and older relatives (I'm 30). Point it at text, choose "translate to English" and boom. Similarly, talk in to it and out comes (probably horribly broken) Mandarin Chinese. Pretty badass.

My personal favorite, though, is Gravity Screen. It's the first thing I reinstall after a full wipe (more of those than there should be -- I can't leave well enough alone when it comes to ROMs) or install on a new phone. Keeps me from hitting power / lock who knows how many times every day, and keeps my phone from turning on unintentionally in my pocket. Makes using the phone in the car way easier, don't have to look at it even to see if it's locked or not, just orient properly and say "OK Google". Awesome app.

Twilight (removes blue light from your phone at night, better for not messing with sleep cycle)
Nova launcher (great stock Android launcher that's lean and quick, good customization)
Pushbullet (ideal for sending URLs from my desktop web browser to friends)
Elun icon pack (probably my favorite icon pack that I can recommend to anyone)

Picked up some top development apps.

C4droid C++/C compiler and IDE. Can create stand-alone installable .apk. C++ seems to be favored in space and defense industries these days and top 10 ranked language on GitHub.

QuickEdit Text Editor Pro Been getting by with basic text editor in Solid Explorer but broke down and got a real coding text editor.

Free Ruboto Ruby language interpreter. GitHub was written in Ruby and in the infosec space Metasploit uses Ruby for scripting. Also, ranked #3 on GitHub. Good Ruby tutorial.

QPython3 Python popular with computer vision.

Comet Lua

GitHub programming language rankings for reference.

Normally stick with languages that can potentially pay the bills but these look interesting especially Frink and are free.

Frink Looks like a powerful cross platform calculating/conversion tool and programming language.

RFO BASIC! More capable than typical BASIC and can create stand-alone installable .apk. Interestingly, the developer has a bit of Apple II history with Apple DOS 3.1.

Algoid Maybe easier for younger audience.

like 4 years ago, had to be Infinity Blade.

Now the only must have ap on all my tablets and stuff is Dropbox :)

Flightradar24 is an incredible to check out. When you see a plane flying overhead and you wonder where it came from and where its going, (plus what type of plane, what its flight path is, what the pilot sees from his cockpit via google maps terrain) this app will show you all of that. It's not something I use every day, but its a fun app and seriously cool.

PhonePower app, lets me use my landline from anywhere in the world. My phone rings at home in the US and I pick it up in Europe.

New favorites.

With OneSync can now reliably sync/backup phone directories/files to free 230GB OneDrive storage. Actively updated to support OneDrive v2 API that removes 100MB file size limit and support SD on Marshmallow. This kind of powerful app is the reason why Microsoft reneged on unlimited storage.

Also, AutoSync for Google Drive which I'll probably end up going since the service has 4x better throughput than Microsoft once OneDrive free storage expires. 100GB of Google Drive for $1.99/month is very reasonable.

More best of the best.

Relay for Reddit Pro

And, just when I run out of Google Play credits I come across yet another must have.

Wi.cap. Network Sniffer Pro
(requires root)

Wow! Fully functional Wireshark on a phone showing plaintext hardforum login. Now have easy traffic visibility into sneaky apps like ES File Explorer.

For me the coolest app I've ever installed is on my BlackBerry Z10 and it's called Star Tracker and it provides a real-time GPS-based 'star montage' where when pointed at the sky (or anywhere really) it'll display the constellations and other star clusters, galaxies, etc, all clearly labeled. Considering the Z10 is just a dual core device and now almost 4 years old (released in 2012) the fact that this app runs so damned buttery smooth just really blew me away but it's a gorgeous app and was worth what I paid for it and then some. There are other such apps on other platforms (Distant Suns, etc) but this one BlackBerry OS 10 is pretty nice. Screenshots I just took below:

My god that's awesome Tiberian! This would be a cool app to run on a tablet with a big screen.

Another day, another awesome sauce...

DriveDroid (requires root) Consolidate all your USB flash keys onto your phone even bootable ones for Windows installer, bootable Linux with persistence, Kali pen testing, etc.

Color Note and Secret Calculator were one of the best apps I've ever installed. I wonder who got the amazing idea of secret calculator :D

Man, secret calculator is great!

Wife: Why does your phone have 2 calculators?

Me: Its buggy, and why are you on my phone!?

Classy.

Also I love the lawyer who wrote the review saying that he uses it to "protect" all his client files.
