Glad they were able to get taken care of. I understand just how frustrating it is to purchase something and then found that some deadbeat stole the product you just purchased. This is why I always open up a product at the register if it is an expensive item and compare the serial number to the one on the box.

When you return an item to Target, they usually ask for your information, and for more expensive items, usually they want to see your ID.

I'm pretty sure if you have the original receipt they don't check your ID. The only time they check and enter ID info is if there is no receipt.

With the original receipt they scan the receipt barcode then the barcode on the product to verify the receipt is used for the item being returned. If it is, then no ID check.

(at least, this is what they do when I return items)

So if the original person bought the item with cash, then returned it with the receipt, then there isn't much that can be done...

I bought an xbox 360 at a walmart a few years ago and when I got it home it was a RROD console that the serial number didn't match the box. When I tried to return it to Walmart, they said the serial number didn't match the box and that I must be trying to return a broken xbox and it wasn't what they sold me. Obviously this was an inside job by the store employee who rung me up in the electronics section. I even asked to speak to a manager, and they wouldn't do jack for me. I got sold a non-working xbox 360 and they accused me of being a liar. I've never been so angry.

Luckily I was able to repair the RROD myself, but I was out hours of time fixing it myself, and I really wanted the Jasper revised model with lower power consumption. I lost faith in brick and mortar for electronics and do most of my business through newegg and amazon.

A few people have said this but you are not looking at the actual box the but box inside the box.

If you actually look at the article you will see a picture of the boy holding the box which is the Uncharted Nathen Drake Collection model.

i have had an apple rep tell me they don't do this as it is bad pr to brick them and the criminals don't tend to steal to keep them they steal them to flip for cash and do whatever with the cash including buying a clean version... I looked into it when someone on swappa stole an iphone 5 from me.

Online retailers are higher risk in brick and mortar you can at least check the contents of the box first before any money changes hands...
