Having been gone from the forums for about 5 years I figure I come back with a nice Christmas Deal.

I posted this on Slickdeals but I figure the [H] crowd would enjoy it as well.

My post from Slickdeals:

Here is the review:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6YZzl9A_GxI

This TV is ~24ms for input lag as per this post. You have to put the TV in PC mode (glad they at least included this feature).

This panel does 60hz at 4K which is really good. It has a "PC mode" along with other features.

http://www.overclock.net/t/1579913/seiki-se42ugt-streaming

It is on sale at HHGREGG:
http://www.hhgregg.com/seiki-42-4k-ultra-hd-streaming-tv/item/SE42UGT#

As of this post it is at $249.00. No Tax, Free Shipping.

Coupon Codes
  • [EXPIRED 25DEC15]Christmas Sales Coupon Code: "holidays" gives you another 11% off!!! (Orders over $299)
  • [VALID til 2JAN16] New Years Coupon Code: "2016"
  • [NEVER Expires!] 10% off with Introductory Coupon (HOWDYxxxxx). Register here for Hhgregg rewards. Email with coupon code for 10% off one time purchase. Apply it for this deal to get the TV for $224.10.

Final price is $221.61 shipped (when I bought two)! This is a STEAL for a "smart" 4K panel that is lag free as compared to the SE39UY04 which only does 30hz at 4K.

I purchased two for $443.22 shipped + no tax! It is $224.10 shipped otherwise with the HOWDYxxx coupon code. Grab them while supplies last!

Limitations

Free shipping may only apply to certain States.
11% off Coupon Code only works for orders over $299.00
10% Rewards club coupon is a one time deal (HOWDYxxxxx). Make sure you follow the link above to register.

Alternatives

If you want to step up and buy a "cheap" 4K TV the alternative may be the 55" 4K Seiki

Either way, the newer models are substantially better at the same price point as compared to the SE39UY04 which is now two years old. The hardware is no longer there for firmware updates to achieve the initial leaps and bounds. This TV has all the right hardware and software to be the ultimate budget 4K set. We need firmware programmers who can unleash this set's true potential.

Calibration settings
Post#79 - Done with DTP94 Colorimeter

Each TV varies greatly on ideal setting. The two I have share similar settings but each one has to be tweaked to get the best color. dispcalGUI is good with Argyll but also do HCFR as well if you have your own colorimeter.

Um you cant use the 11% off code on this. The code is only if the item is $299 or more. And shipping is 79 bucks for me so not sure where you get free shipping from. Heck they even add sales tax on top of the shipping charge making it $358.60 shipped...

Works because I got two. Free shipping in TX. No Sales tax. Guess this is a Lone Star only type of deal. ;)

JinxyBoi, follow us on the overclock forum thread for feedback. The monitor is still relatively fresh as compared to the more established SE39UY04 but I know with all the added features that it won't disappoint. I'm kind of sick of 30hz right now starring at this Seiki 39" I have in front of me. When I stepped down to 1080p@60hz it was the most liberating moment on this fine XMas day.

Glad I can help out another fellow Texan. Bump another $50 on the purchase to get 11% off.

Youtube review of this monitor is quite good. Seems like it is a move in the right direction from the UMS/T's which were plagued with input lag and low refresh rates (claim to be fixed by firmware updates).

Not sure how good the built-in Wi-fi will be though.

Decided to bite; I told myself that 42" 60hz @4k was worth a try for $271 :p
No tax for me (I'm in NYC), and shipping was reasonable at $21 so let's see how it goes. (Looking forward to turning down my graphics settings for Fallout 4 on my GTX 980, lol).
Does this TV include HDMI 2.0 cables?
Thanks OP for this deal.

My concern:
I verified this is 4:2:2, so its not great for monitor use.

For TV use, its still hard to fine 4K content, and 42" isn't that big and would be hard to tell a big difference in quality over 1080p unless you're pretty close.

So for me, going to pass for now.

Great points brought up here and definitely noteworthy. The firmware apparently has 4:4:4 enabled and the folks on OC Forum are still testing it out to see if it is genuine 4:4:4. I think the last test they did concurs with what you've mentioned about being 4:2:2.

SE39UY04 is also 4:2:2 and I have no complaints. I was going to suggest doing DVI-D (RGB) where you sacrifice range (not 0-255) instead of losing out on the # of pixels sampled. But then I found this discussion about possible up conversion to YPbPr from RGB back to RGB (skip!).

It really depends on what you are doing. I'm using these monitors for casual web browsing, maybe some picture editing, leisure watching some movies, and trading. If I am doing pro editing where gamut is a big deal then this TV is definitely lacking. By the same company, the SM40UNP might suffice. I could have gotten three of these 42" though instead of buying one SM40UNP.

Anyone on the fence, here's a 10% off code, not sure if it's limited to my account or not, but it says no limits to its use for online purchases..

As for me, it's replacing a humble 37" 720p TV that's gotten a bit long in the tooth, so I can't say the seiki's got a lot of expectations to live up to in my case. :D

Just ordered two, free in store pickup and it's only a few miles away. $469.81 for a pair of these.
I had just purchased that Sceptre 43" 4K TV from Walmart so after a side-by-side I'll decide which ones to return. Or flip them next week for a profit...

Curious to hear your opinion of the comparison. I've got the Sceptre myself and no HHGregg terribly close by, so not very convenient to do the comparison myself.

The Sceptre does 4:4:4, but it's a RGBW panel, so better than 4:2:2 for text, but not great.

Anyone have an extra code since the 11% only works on $299 and up? The code JinxyBoi posted has already been used.

JinxBoi's code was for 10% off $99 or more. You supposedly get it by signing up for their rewards thing but I don't know how long it takes for them to send it out after signing up. The code for 11% off $299 or more is HOLIDAYS. I believe that ends today.

Don't think that it's going to work out. Otherwise AMD and Club3D wouldn't have spent months developing a solution.

Yes, 30fps via HDMI, 60fps via displayport. You won't be playing modern games with it though.

Use the Club 3D adapter to get 60hz.

I had posted a link to a much cheaper adapter but it wasn't hdmi 2.0 sp I removed it to avoid confusion.

This much cheaper adapter should allow 60hz. $9
http://www.ebay.com/itm/262042202770

Which combined with this HDMI2.0 cable. $4
http://www.ebay.com/itm/291351921135?var=590471677324

means that it's $13 instead of $30 and it'll ship now.

I just ordered a set...

Do you really trust Belkin to do a 60hz one when their previously advertised 60hz adapter got not so great reviews? By all means, let us know if it works so we can get it as well. :)

My thoughts exactly.

I been running my SE39UY04 at 1080p 120hz daily since i got it like a year ago.. it does 4k at 30hz.. 4k at 60hz would be nice!

But imma have to wait and rock this for a while.

I'm ok being the lab ratt for this one.
I can't speak to people spending months of their lives developing these solutions, but I do know that some people still swear that you should buy the most expensive HDMI cable in the store because it's better. I also have known many major brands dragging behind on their tech because they believe that no one will walk away for another option because of 'brand loyalty.'
Listing says that it supports hdmi2.0 and 4k@60hz, and if it doesn't I'll get a refund, probably painlessly. Then I suppose I'll consider spending the $30 on that other adapter that was linked. But I'll also consider spending $30 extra on a new video card instead.
I will most certainly post feedback on the performance once I get the cable/adapter.

This solution also says it will do the deed, but who knows. Until I have one or the other in hand I can only assume that people don't want to give me the item for free when the listing is whacked. And I have no more faith in a $30 cable than a $3 one...

Bit the bullet, hopefully that damn Club3D adapter is out next week. Damn AMD and no HDMI 2.0

Possible 10% off if anyone is still looking HOWDYAF0Ot

Oh man, I missed all this business about the Club3D adapter.

http://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=13369

Though for me the TV's original purpose isn't for my PC, but for my little console gaming corner, I bought one of these from Monoprice hoping it'd do the trick with my 280x (a 7970 rebrand right?) if I decided to hook it up for fun. Is my solution no good?

Cool :) Last time I looked at one of these it was like $100.

Chasing the razer's edge always has consequences.

Make sure to get dispcalGUI and Argyll along with a calibration tool. Did my SE39UY04 with a DTP94. 30hz is annoying.

This is crazy cheap for a 4k 42". The compromises of no 4:4:4 and awful input lag on anything besides PC mode (which apparently then locks out settings outside of service mode) are bearable at that price. If my wife wasn't going to kill me for putting another giant screen in our home I'd probably bite...

Anyone know how would this TV be for console gaming and Steam Link streaming? Would the normal input lag be too much for that?

Order the 55" first, then when she complains, return it and bring home the 'little 42' for half the price, she'll be thrilled and you'll have what you wanted in the first place!

According to the overclockers thread linked earlier about this panel the normal (non PC mode) input lag is in the hundreds (yes hundreds) of ms, so you'll have to run it in PC mode for anything other than watching TV or movies. In that mode someone reported something in the 20's I think which is fine. (But with the caveat that random people doing input lag tests are notoriously hard to take real stock in...)

And in PC mode it locks out any settings, but one person in that same thread said you could go into the service mode and then change settings that way but not sure how hard that is to do.

But... It's $220 bucks so yeah.

Well it would be the first time my wife has complained about something being too big *ba dum tish*

Dude here is pro-level. Gaming that significant other pretty good here.

I'm terrible about throwing out or selling old gear... It's turning into a museum here with legacy LCD monitors and TVs... Seems like every room is going to get two TV/displays now. Maybe I should give Ebay a try and pawn off some of this stuff... This is supposedly 24ms input lag though. Not sure if it is god awful in other modes. Whoever gets this first of our bunch can see and let us all know how it stacks up.

I've got a DTP94 Colorimeter and can post my settings after I get mine. Calibration is pretty easy with dispcalGUI and Argyll as compared to the HCFR days with my Spyder3.

Anyone had luck getting their 10% code? I signed up a few hours ago and nothing yet.
