Real 272HP Hoverboard That Costs $20,000

Wow, that video was really trying to sell it. Hate to be the ones drinking the Kool-aid when they figure out no-one wants to hover around a 10 foot space on a baby mattress.

I really want to believe this is a joke about how marketing will say fucking anything.
 
Yanno if they're going to try and sell that thing they probably shouldn't have the person demoing it looking like it's a pain in the ass to keep your balance.

The parts to make one of these probably aren't much over $2000. They are crazy if they think that someone is going to pay 10 times that.

They are way way way exaggerating and hiding information about it.

The "Slightly larger than a skateboard" part is hilariously bad. It's so large and cumbersome, you couldn't even "Skate" on the ground with it, making it unusable. Not to mention, they cut all the sound out of the video, and I'm sure that thing is loud as hell, I would guess it makes more noise than a lawnmower would.

No kidding, not one camera shot has a person who looks comfortable on that thing. I would figure the electronics of keeping the flying space mattress stable and level should be the easy part.

They also don't show anyone attempting to lift that small mountain of batteries and electric motors!
 
one of the worst ideas ever, well can't really call it an idea finding out how many fans you need to support X weight...
can't imagine the noise, and not all roads are sprinkled clean, so imagine the dust, and also imagine all the leafs, paper, bags, that you throw away flying from under the fans, and getting sucked in by the upper fans, but gg for the video, over selling the crap out of pretty much nothing.
 
I just wanted to see the thing in action. I didnt want to see a bunch of slow mo and marketing bullshit
 
I think I have seen this on an episode of mythbusters once. Don't think it cost anywhere near $20,000 though...

It probably works as shown. But as being revolutionary technology... there is none. It's a bunch of batteries and a bunch of duct fans. Predictably it lifts and with the top weight is somewhat stable and possible to balance. But without any practical means of controlled directed horizontal motion it is completely meaningless.
Also, as it is still so large it would have been preferable to have duct-intake directed to the sides so the top surface is uncluttered, It would make it thicker, but more practical, and if you should drop something from your pocket or a cap or sunglasses then it won't destroy a duct fan.
It's a dead concept. Just barely balancing in place while technically hovering has to get boring inside 5 minutes.
 
Every time flying space mattress guy started talking about 'dreams' and 'freedom' I was imagining him getting sucked into a 272hp electric cheese grater.
 
Looks like they didn't use counter rotating fans. All the videos show it spinning clockwise.
 
if only there was some kind of mechanical device that is compact directional, and requires no energy to suspend your vehicle while stationary. we could call it a "wheel"
 
20 grand. Huge and ugly. Runs for a few minutes max. Barely works.

Keep trying world.
 
Batteries run in the +$2K to replace most likely. Depending on voltage and capacities.
 
the model shows 72 batteries. Probably 5200mAh 4 cell lipos. So yeah roughly $1600 in batteries. 36 ducted vans @ $145 a piece so $5220. 36 speed controllers @ $125/piece $4500. Then a control board So another $1-200 and the costs of the frame, so $100. And its going to be as aloud as hell and cost a fortune in battery chargers.
 
First, I cannot believe this is a real thing.

Second, just about everything everyone said above.

Just w.o.w, that CFO or whatever reminded me of the jerk that jacked the price of medication from like 5$ to 700$ overnight. He needs to go. So, no gyros for stabilization? Why not? We have them on drones, how could they NOT put that into effect here?? For 20 large, I would much rather build a 32 fan system you strap into and fly for 10 minutes. Remote lift to get started and then off you go! Now that, would be fun.
