How Microsoft Plans To Make The Xbox Great Again

I had both a PS3 and an Xbox 360, and I mostly got an Xbox One earlier this year thanks to a promo that Microsoft was running that was too hard to pass up ($100 for any Xbox 360 - in my case, I had a launch day Xbox 360 that hadn't yet RRoD'd, but I can't imagine having tried to sell it and getting even $100 for it...plus it came with the Master Chief Collection, a copy of AC Unity, one more free game which I used to get Arkham Knight, and a $50 Xbox card I used to buy Elite Dangerous and The Long Dark).

I was pretty bad about playing a lot of xbox games, so backwards compatibility and remastered stuff is actually pretty appealing to me - the Halo games, Mirror's Edge, Borderlands, Dishonored, etc. etc should be keeping me busy for a while, plus I've been digging Forza 6 and Fallout 4.

I am definitely hoping to see MS do more to make the Xbox a compelling platform and to make sure it keeps getting good stuff.

I do have to imagine at some point I'm going to get a PS4 - The Witness and No Man's Sky look appealing, and I'd also like to play the Nathan Drake Games and The Last Of Us.

But so far I've enjoyed being an Xbox One owner.

Another one of these articles. Each platform is good in its own way and the Xbox is doing just fine.

Bring back cartridges. No install, no load time, highly collectible. Use the internal HDD for patch and DLC only. Use "special" chip in cartridge to bring new feature or performance to the system.

If MS couldn't outsell PS4, in their strongest territory (North America) after their biggest game (Halo) was released, they are certainly not going to be competitive next year. Next year, Sony has FAR more exclusives (console and full on PS3/PS4 only) coming, they are launching PS VR and they will have a far larger established userbase...meaning that publishers will have even less reason to consider Xbox at all.

I fully expect MS to release Halo 5 and Gears 4 on PC as well...(especially given the poor sales of Halo 5 on XB1)...The studio who ONLY publishes Forza games is also working on an unannounced PC title...gee, I wonder what THAT is? This means that gamers who also game on PC have even LESS of a reason to buy an Xbox!

It's done folks, it's over. MS has been giving away the farm trying to boost sales at the expense of profitability...and it failed. Don't be surprised if the shareholders pull the plug on the entire division and focus instead on "Xbox on PC".

No, it's really not. They sold a boatload of consoles, sure...AT A LOSS.

They saw the stats on how many people were watching Netflix and other video on the 360...and instead of saying "Hey, people are using the device they already own to watch video instead of buying another device", they said, "Hey, people are using the Xbox for multimedia, let's focus on this and sell consoles to more customers who don't game". FAIL.

Yes because I want to see a return to the days when games cost $100.

The article seemed to emphasize the power of cloud to increase the power of the XBone.

Yep a developer is going to pay for Azure cloud time so people can play games with greater fidelity ad-nauseum...great plan there.

I read an article about "Crackdown", the first game to REALLY take advantage of "the cloud" (tm). It said that ONE GAME used the equivalent of SEVEN servers to process the data. SEVEN. They were actually BRAGGING about this! I can't imagine what it would cost a game developer/publisher to make a game like this, and SUPPORT it LONG TERM, if they have to pay full price for the computing! Even if it does work...unless MS is HEAVILY subsidizing it, it's not going to be practical for anyone to use it.

Hahahahahaha....... :D:p:rolleyes: Yeah, ok mister business expert and all knowing guru, sure thing. So, since you know all things, just how is Sony going to survive by bleeding red? It's over folks, Sony is dead, they are going down the tubes, share holders are going to demand their money back. :D /s

I never got one at release for these main reasons:

*MS Wanted to force me to be online to play games.
*MS Wanted to sell me a game, at top dollar, and that i can't sell because i downloaded it instead of buying it in a shop.
*MS Wanted to force me to pay for hardware i don't want, don't like, or don't have a use for.
*MS Were complete arragant asshats about it all come announcement and release.

First console i've not bought on or close to release since the NES.

^This
Sums it up nicely.

I remember the unbridled hubris, the outrageous arrogance of the launch.
They lost the battle by their own stupid attitude.

However, the real sad truth is that the consumer was the big loser of this console war. Both consoles are underpowered and lack games.

Yeah, it was absolutely terrible for them to drop the price on the XBox One with Kinect to $399 and then "forced" you to buy it. So, you must have an XBox One now by the sounds of it, right?

Yeah, typical intelligence of an MS fan showing. Maybe you missed the last couple finanical reports...but 1) Sony's MOBILE and TELEVISION divisions were responsible for the losses, NOT the Playstation division.

and
2) Sony has been in the BLACK lately. They are no longer losing money and have actually turned a nice profit recently.

Troll harder next time.

I really hate that argument that BOTH are underpowered. Find me a PC that can play games with the same visual quality as a PS4 for $300. You CANT!

Also, the PS4 (and yes, even the Xbox One) are more powerful and have better graphics than the generation of consoles that came before them.

This narrative that all consoles suck compared to high end gaming PCs needs to stop.

No trolling from me, just sarcasm to match your not so relevant post. :) Oh well, enjoy yourself, I am sure a couple of quarters for Sony will totally keep themselves from capsizing. :D Oh, and go ahead, question my intelligence, makes not a wick of difference to me. :p

I love my XBox One, 360 and original. That said, the graphics are no where near as good as on my 4k monitor connected to a 980Ti with a 6700k processor. Hate the argument all you want but, for some, that is exactly the way it is and why they do not own either console.

The only way to fix the Xbox One is to make it faster. The biggest complaints I see is it's inability to match the PlayStation's frame rates.

I never said anything about PCs.

For around $399 you can come pretty damn close. but that isn't my point. There is not a huge leap in quality between last gen and this. Period. Any monkey knows this.

Cannot agree with this but then again, I am not a monkey. :D I have a 360 and One hooked up to the same TV and I have seen a significant difference. However, game developers did take really good advantage of the 360's hardware and were able to mostly hide or work around it's limitations.

I like starting up Skyrim on the 360 and still be amazed at how good it looks for a 10 year old system.

I think if you really do some digging you will find that you are a monkey, MoG.

But seriously, "a significant difference"? REALLY? I have a PS4 and a PS3 side by each and depending on the game (that is key) the difference can be INsignificant.

So here is a point, check out this article:
http://kotaku.com/mega-man-x-reimagined-for-modern-times-1746602309

This is how I imagined next gen gaming. Even in a 2d platformer it hasn't gotten anywhere near this good.

Used to be we got great hardware with no software, now we get blah hardware and blah software.

There hasn't been anything groundbreaking since viewpoint on the PSX. I am serious, just give me some great colorful and fun games with great art and style. Give me something, anything!!!

That image you posted could be done 10 times over on the current gen console hardware. However, I guess it is not my fault your PS4 is lacking, at least according to you. *Shrug* You do not have to agree with me for me to know I am correct, my eyes do not lie. I guess you expected a 4k gaming monster in a console format with all the fixings for only $299 dollars at release, eh?

If you are not happy with your PS4, sell it and game on the PC. Me, I see a significant difference but hey, whatever.

This really does seem to be a problem with Microsoft's culture across the company. They have the same attitude when it comes to Windows 8/10 user feedback. Don't like the Start Screen? Fuck you, it's progress! Don't get Scroogled, but if you complain about our own data gathering projects you're just a paranoid tinfoil-hat-wearing dork.

Hello Mr Arrogant MS Apologist.

No i do not have one. Because they still dropped the ball in certain areas that i do not like. Even tho i really wanted to upgrade my 360 (for a number of reasons on top of the list i already pointed out). And i'm not about to bother typing them up so some blind asshat can try to make his leader out to be all-seeing-all-innocent-master.

have a good day.

Nah, you do not have to type them out, oh, and you may want to look in the mirror to define arrogant. :D Oh well, your money, do want you want with it but let me tell you, you are missing out on a really good experience. (I have one and use it everyday, if that makes me a Microsoft apologist, so be it. Guess I just like something that just works.)

Make a Surface Xbox that's a PC and gaming console then I'll consider one. As a gaming console only, no.

It us just much easier to flame Microsoft and rip on them. It's what all the cool kids are doing these days. X1 is an excellent gaming machine. I just enjoy myself and let the haters hate.

I think something that would go a long way with consumers, would be opening up online gaming to Silver Xbox Live members. I could see a huge number of consumers moving to Xbone over the PS4 if they're not paying for online gaming. This would be hitting Sony where it really hurts - their network seems to always be spotty.

Still have the Gold tier with all of the free games and game discounts - it's still a great value without having to have online gaming behind its paywall.
