Fingerprint readers for doors?

Does anyone have recent experience with biometric readers for access control. I've got two data center doors I want to change over to finger print access and have recently tried out Morpho J-Bio readers and found them to be absolute trash.

They wont work with our standard Cisco POE switches for power. Setup is via an archaic USB config tool from what I would guess is 2001 (requires a sub 1 GB fat 16 formatted stick), documentation is nearly non existent and poorly translated. Basically I dont have any faith in these to work when the shit hits the fan if they are this temperamental right out of the box.

Can anyone recommend other options?

Thanks

Do you already have HID cards deployed for access control? They make a number of biometric readers that should be fairly easy to integrate. Can do serial instead of USB for configuration too.

We use these at our DC's. They work over 802.3af and 100% configurable over ethernet with the free software package that allows you to maintain your fingerprint DB, user DB, as well as device settings. You can also do remote enrollments but I would recommend keeping a VM on the same subnet with the SW running.

This model supports PINs + fingerprint or HID + fingerprint.

Wich is ?

ComputerBox34: What brand and model are you using?

We are not HID, the building is on some ancient magstrip swipe readers.

The company I work has 6 Morpho and 7 Bioscrypt fingerprint readers. The readers are nothing but problems and on top of that the software sucks even worse. We are in the process of getting rid of them and replacing them with HID badge swipes.

no issues with Morpho here at my work. Bioscrypt is another issue though considering they are pretty much EOL. They broke down so much the vendor had a flat $100 fee to swap them out. Even though Morpho now owns L1/Bioscrypt.. My experience is that they are phasing them out for their own units.

Morpho created a utility for us that uses their MSO300 USB reader. A client sits on the taskbar which maps the hash value for the print to a number. We use it like a barcode reader in our app. Super easy and works for our environment. I made a video of the process if anyones interested.
