How many old farts here stil play pc games?

41 in March of 2016. I was 18 in 93 and played Genesis out the ass with my buds. Played with the Atari 2600, NES since a kid in the 80s and before THAT some big ass pyramid looking device. I wish I knew what console that was. Played on PCs since 89. Old doesn't mean slax wearing plaid shirts anymore. It seems that Gex X generation will be in wheelchairs listening to straight outta compton and remembering lollapalooza. I am 23 in my head and will always play games. I play on my xb1 all the time. Gaming was an escape for me and will always be in my life.

51 - Mostly Diablo III but some other's I have a rather large Steam library I hope to explore when I retire lol

Played some in the 80s but spent most of time on multiplayer decent 1,2 in 1994 over dialup.
Quake, quake megatf. Desert combat and all the bf series. Urban terror for a few years. Cod series then back to the bf series. Tried battlefront but put in for a refund. It just feels lame. Console feel.
Oh and Im 51.

Im 48 and been gaming before Windows. the ole DOS days. It's another way for me and my son he's (20) and lives in another state to spend time together. I'm starting a new build now and going the water cooling route for the first time. I love gaming and guess I always will. It;s the cheapest thing I can do with my time (planning my retirement lol) so it saves me a ton of money. I just upgraded my Vid to a 970 G1 and got the new Thermaltake Core P5 and love it. Now to brush up on water cooling which loos pretty easy.

53 here. Been gaming since Pong. Took some time away in late 80's early 90's after I sold my Commodore 64 but got into it again (and PC's) after watching a buddy play the original Diablo when it first released. Most played recently are : Witcher 3, Company Of Heroes, Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion and a little good ol' fashioned AOE2 HD on steam.

My PC Gaming started on a TRS-80 Model 1 in 1981, loading games by Big 5 Software from a casette deck LOL

Big 5 was one VERY talented group of kids (yes, kids) who learned how to program the Z80 in Machine code and what they did with pixels the size of rice grains is amazing.

They still have a web site up LOL

Turning 40 in few months. Still trying to play, but with kids now my time is severely limited. Actually, the biggest problem is my 4 year old who got addicted to Battlefield 2 bot matches so i had to cut him off by pretending that my computer is not working anymore. So that means i can't play either when he's up.

Started on Commodore 64, actually there was one console before that, but i don't remember the name. It looks like this hobby will stay with me until the end. I can only imagine games and graphics when i'm so old that i can't see shit anymore... Yey Battlefield 73

Two words that will make a Millenial's head assplode:

turn 38 next week, still game on PC/X1/PS4. Granted not as much as the old days due to career, family, etc, but I definitely still get a ton of time in. I do find weeks where i dont feel like playing anything, but then sometimes ill go full on for a while.

I started playing a greenscreen terminal that my dad brought home from work one weekend. It was a box about the size of a small toaster and the screen was about the size of the screen on a Blackberry. We connected to some server via a cradle modem and played Adventure. Of course, we couldn't play long because we were paying for the phone call by the minute. We also had a Magnavox Oddessy 300 console. I think my sister may still have it. We had a Magnavox Oddessy 2 and an Apple IIe.

IMO, you're not an old fart gamer unless, when people say, "The original Wolfenstein" you think of this game:

I'm 40. I prefer to play the games on the PC but my wife usually wants to play so I get stuck on the xbox.

This is like asking how old farts still ride a bicycle. As long as you can see, hear, react, and plan, there is no age too old. My Dad is 50 and played his first video game in about 1973. But he still so enterjectic in this game as a new comer. He is very good in poker and Indian rummy also and know all the rules for rummy. i also like the game and spent my spare time in playing this game online.

bicycles...:D reminds me of my childhood and riding 15-20 miles on the bike path with my grandpa who was 87/88 years old. If he didn't get cancer that man would have still been biking even in his 90s or older lol.

and totally...never too old to play :D

51, still owning kids in fps games.
I fear for the future due to how badly they are at gaming.

waiting for grim dawn atm

46 and still gaming as strong as I can. Am buying myself a new video card for Christmas to help with that past time as well.

Almost 30 and find maybe a few hours a week. What also changed is my patience with learning curves, in that it's gone. Hahaha

cant agree more. I dont want to spend 200 hours getting profient at a game. I find that my taste stays static to RTS that i have already played or multiplayer FPS. I love RPGs and indepth games but i don't want to learn them....at least not by myself.

Sins of the Solar Empire looks really cool but the game has so much too it. It isn't like AOE where the mechanics are rock paper scissors. Don't get me wrong I actually hate rock paper scissor RTSs but I just dont want to take the time to learn a million units and the 20 upgrades that goes with each unit.

44 here, Currently playing Doom 3 for the 5th or 6th time. I was hooked on WoW for a long time but finally gave up on it right after the WoD x-pack. Just got bored I guess. I also play GT6 and Ace Combat Infinity on the PS3.

I got my kids into gaming at an early age too. My son plays the Call of Duty series with his friends on the Xbox. My daughter is a PC gamer and has probably logged more hours in Oblivion and Skyrim than anyone I know lol. I'm currently building her another gaming system as hers is pretty dated.

^ I'm playing Doom 3 now for the first time... holds up pretty well, and 25% in I see no reason to use a duct tape mod, flashlight is almost never needed actually, I guess young folk were just scared of the dark :D

Do you older folk think professional gaming is possible at age 60? I know reflexes slow as you age, but how much does actively gaming counteract that?

It could be something fun to do after you retire.

I'm thinking more about people that were good enough to be professional gamers at age 20 but gave it up to get a "real job". Then after they retire have the financial independence and time they need to dedicate to it.

No I don't think pro gaming is possible at 60. Even if you do keep your eye-hand coordination up, there are significant vision changes from age 45 on.

I know a lot of TF2 players in their 50s and up. They can pwn with the best of them, in both Highlander and 6v6. But against 20somethings with a six pack of energy drinks in em?

Probably depends on the game ... with the current Pro games it might be harder for older players to succeed ... however, if eGaming catches on and becomes more popular across a wide range of titles then anything is possible ... who knows, maybe there will be more strategic oriented games or turn based games or less reflex intensive games available for future leagues (it's not like regular sports doesn't include a wide range of choices from curling to iron man competitions)

I'm 34, and although i still buy several games I generally just play dota 2 when I have free time to play. Oddly enough I ended up befriending a group of teenagers that play dota 2 as well that live on west coast of the US (I live in Tennessee) and play dota 2 most nights and some other games from time to time with them lol.

There is another dude that is 30 that plays with us too and lives in New Mexico, he just came out to visit me for a weekend last month and we had a blast. Been playing with this group for nearly 2 years now. I used to play in the competitive Team fortress classic scene for a while when it was big from like 1999 to mid 2000s and i'm just an average dota player but playing with the group is the most fun i have nowadays.

As an aside my Mother's husband is 80 and still plays computer games (mostly flight sims and single player FPS games) ... the hobby of computer gaming is a choice and age doesn't really come into play unless you really want it to ;)

hey i remember playing at the internet cafe in Naperville IL with some 30s and 40s guys when most of us were high school or college and it was all cool. A gamer is a gamer and everyone always can use extra bodies at lan parties.
