Starcraft 2 launched today and nobody cares?

I bought the SC2 battle chest not too long ago on a sale... haven't even taken it out of the box. :/

It's funny in a way that after I spoiled the ending for I find myself interested in playing the rest of the campaign again. I guess it's because I don't have to adjust or set my expectations anymore and can now entirely focus on the content. It's definitely an enjoyable and very polished campaign, I'm surprised how much I'm enjoying it right now.

Only disadvantage is that sometimes there's a bit too much of those nobility and wisdom speeches going around. I'm glad a certain character appeared in the second half of the campaign who really spices things up a bit. By far my favorite character in this expansion.

The game sold 1 million in 24hrs, seems kinda weird that there is really no media on it.

Link to source about 1 million sold? That's as good or better than GTA5.

It's actually somewhere in the neighborhood of 1/10th the GTA 5 sales numbers. Guinness says GTA 5 made $815.7 million in revenue during the first 24 hours. At $60 a pop that's over 13 million copies.

You're right. I was recalling incorrectly. After reading that I realized GTA5 made almost $1 billion in sales in the first 24 hours it was 1 billion (not million) and it was dollars (not copies). I was way off.

Yeah, I actually was tempted to play the entire campaign again after I finished Legacy.

And yes, I agree there was a lot of those speeches around, but I felt I liked Artanis a lot better than I liked Aldaris in the original SC. I don't why but I can't stand bigotry.

Still...

I was mildy disappointed that the Rak'shir mission was a build a base mission, not a limited force mission, I felt having an army aiding one of the participants completely negated the Rak'Shir's emphasis on personal strength but more on political power

And...

How does a Zerg Hive cluster revive a dead god, exactly?

I liked starcraft 1 quite a bit. Havent played the current one. I heard you have to squint a bit to be any good at it.

I finished the campaign and epilogue missions on Brutal a couple days ago. With all my expectations for SC2's plot shattered from WoL 5 years ago, I actually enjoyed the experience quite a bit. I may pursue the achievements in the future and do some co-op games.

There are likely several factors.

1m in sales is not a huge release in terms of comparing to major multi-platform titles.

It is a lot for a PC specific release but an issue here is that PC focused websites now are typically tech websites. SC2LV is not something that they will be interested in from a technical standpoint. Ashes of Singularity is extremely unlikely to be anywhere near the popularity but the tech sites and communities covered it extensively due to the DX12 benchmark angle.

Game is also sandwiched between FO4 and Battlefront, you'll notice heavy media attention and general hype for these two products.

This is also the 2nd (not even first) expansion for a game released in 2010 even if it is stand alone. Do people recall any attention to releases like DoW: Soulstorm, DoW2: Retribution, and CoH: Tales of Valor? These received even less attention.

Kerrigan.

Although I really wouldn't consider that to be a bad thing, this year more than made up for the lackluster 2014 in gaming, easily. So many AAA and good titles.

I wish I was like you all. This has been a pretty empty gaming year for me, I am cursed to favor rpgs, but the witcher does not appeal to me. And the fallout franchise never took either, so on paper it seems like 2015 was a great rpg year, but for me.. meh.

Shooters are boring.

The only things sustaining me are league of legends and age of wonders III random map replays.

At least next year I'll get mass effect andromeda.

And I may jump back into swtor since there is enormous levels of single player story I missed.

I played quite a few of the older games as well.

If it was not for the surprise official updates to KOTOR2, I may have never noticed the game, since I was still plowing through KOTOR 1, a progress somewhat hindered by the annoying end of combat freezes and un-widescreen.

I am plowing through Van Helsing - Final Cut, again, not exactly a new game. I actually haven't even bought GTA V either.

But other than that, Runescape and Diablo 3 took more of my time than I like to admit...

Well I think you may have sold a copy. A buddy keeps clamoring for me to give this game a try, but he gets excited about anything. Thanks!

I'm not sure what I did to convince you to give it a try :D. To reiterate, what I meant was my expectations from the story were not very high after experiencing WoL onward, but this final chapter was pretty nice and epic overall despite in spite of the plot being... pretty cheesy (IMO). I've just kinda accepted that it isn't what I wished it to be 15 years ago, and I'm ok with it now. That acceptance seemed to improve my overall experience.

Co-op is a pretty nice feature though. They've taken some mission objectives from the campaign and put them into a cooperative environment, with level-ups and whatnot. Certain "heroes" control certain sets of units and upgrades, but I think only the Zerg have their heroes on the field.
