DAN A4-SFX: The smallest gaming case in the world

The C7 will fit on the Impact VIII. The temp screenshot of the C7 on the last side was made on an Impact VIII with 6700k.

@dondan,

Even the reseller is secured, I suggest you still go ahead with the crowdfunding (e.g. indigogo, kickstarter). It will certainly give you greater exposure on the case.

By the way, if crowdfunding is still a "go-ahead"; will it begin in Dec 2015 as you previously scheduled?

Soo can someone confirm that I will be able to order this masterpiece by the end of 2015? I've been throwing my money at the screen for quite a while now.

Same where. I keep throwing my wallet at the monitor and it bounces back.

Transaction won't go through! ;)

@dondan, I suggest you add inches to your case specifications (especially GPU lengths). A lot of GPU websites are in the US and they specify lengths in inches (e.g. nvidia.com). For example, max GPU length: 295mm (11.6 inch).

Also I'm thinking that if someone cuts out a portion of the front bracket, they could fit pretty much any mainstream GPU in the world, even the enormous 6990 (~12 inch). Now that's impressive! :)

I think the size of the case is impressive, not putting the biggest VGA in the world. You have so many options in the market, why go to a 12 inch VGA?

@justbenice
Did you saw the thermal tests made?

@Barbarian_PT cooling is better for some of 12 inch cards with triple fans. Here's a 980Ti comparison:
http://techreport.com/review/28685/geforce-gtx-980-ti-cards-compared/5

Best performance/cooling cards on the list are 12inch or a little bit more. Gigabyte is 309mm so it is a no go for this case. Asus is 305mm so it could theoretically fit with a cut out of the bracket to get that extra 10mm (by default case allows 295mm).

And Water Cooling may be a better choice, and so on... The main purpose is to make the smaller high end gaming PC case, with "mainstream" components.

We could be having this conversations about CPU coolers as well... One more inch, much more possibilities.

I'm not suggesting to add any extra inches, I'm just commenting on what's possible. You could get this exact case and install a 12 inch card with some modding. Quite impressive, that's all.

I'm not so sure. I remember researching this a while back and getting confusing results when it came to the gigabyte. If you take the specs at face value it doesn't fit, but this article where they actually measure it would seem to suggest otherwise.

@superblockio, dammit you're right, I wish there was a standard for these measurements :) But still 309mm is then probably a full length including a bracket and DAN case including a bracket allows 306mm. You could probably force it in but I wouldn't risk it (or mod the case as I mentioned earlier).

I got new samples :)

Hey Dan,
Those look beautiful! Just curious, what thermal paste did you use for the Dynatron T318 cooler? I'm using the same X99 setup with the same cooler and fan and am getting very hot idle temps. I'm currently using the thermal paste that came on the cooler, but I'm now thinking that the pre-applied stuff may be junk.

Also, which points did you use to secure the fan to the T318 cooler? This might be worth adding to the guide on your website!

What CPU fan are you going to use? (Assuming you're not going to let your CPU throttle when it's gaming time)
I'm using the Cryorig C7 for mine, waiting for a SSD replacement so I can only watch BIOS load atm :(

I don't know....

I have few fan to test....

For the moment I have a Scythe SY1212SL12H-P of a big shuriken2, a Noctua NF-9AX14 PWM in thin fan.....

I have to test too Noctua NF-S12A (I have two of them) and Be Quiet! SilentWings 2 120mm PWM.

I just ordered four SilentWing just for an idea I have in mind.... ;)

I thought that posting porn is illegal :D
Nah this is Hard|Forum, you're supposed to post sff builds that make you hard ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Dan seemed to think it would fit. We talked about it toward the bottom of this page. but yeah I'd definitely try to confirm the length before deciding one way or another. :D

How high are yor idle temps on desktop and how high are your load temps in prime95? Did you screw the four screws strong enough? Which FAN do you use? Do you overclocked the cpu?

I can make a drawing for the zip ties mounting of the fan tomorrow.

- Idle temps are in the 50's! Will get this lower before doing prime95.
- No overclocking.
- I believe I have screwed the four screws in properly
- Used the stock thermal paste on the cooler, will try applying my own instead
- Using the thermal right TY-100 fan

Thank you!

I think I remember seeing someone ask earlier in the thread, I think was <$1K.

Will look for where it was mentioned.
Edit:
Having trouble finding it, assume I made that up unless I edit a link in this post.

For the first one incl. tax it is nearly $2000. Later ones are cheaper.

@jb1:

Maybe this picture helps you to mount the fan with zip ties:

Thank you! That's helpful, I did it slightly differently, but a similar idea.

What temperature are you getting at idle with the TY-100 fan? I picked it based on your X99 tests, but maybe the noctua fan is a little quieter?

In idle the cpu fan run with 30% speed and I get 30-36°C. Room temp is 22°C. Thermal paste is Thermalright Chill Factor 3.

Do you allow your cpu to clock down in idle mode? What is your room temperature? Do you use the components inside a case? If yes what case do you use? Do you measure the temps with coretemp?

Currently using the stock thermal paste, will probably try with Noctua paste since I have some of that.

I am clocking down to 1.2GHz in idle–- I'm actually able to get CPU power consumption down to 1-2W! Room temp is also ~22C. Right now it's in a completely open M1, I think air is being supplied well. I think my issue is not proper contact with the cooler.

Temps measured with Intel Power Gadget.

That's unimpressive. Being better than L9i by small margin is not that good. Cooltek LP53 performs way better and seems to be the better choice for the A4.

I totally agree. Although the availability of Cooltek LP53 can aslo be an issue

Maybe I'll go non-K i7-6700 with L9i then. If there were only a good H170 board with USB 3.1... since otherwise I could even stick with Haswell. Looking forward to the test with 6700K and C7 in the A4. My priorities: Size > idle noise > performance > load noise
