I map those to the push-down-the-thumbstick-buttons.
Why didn't I think of that?

But, why?
I want to beat it...
In theory.
Because I don't see myself going to it anytime soon. Blood pressure, you see.
Why didn't I think of that?
I've resigned myself to the "I'll never beat that game without cheating." category. There are other types of games that I'll put that kind of effort into now, but many of the types I used to expend that energy on just don't make the cut these days.
That said, I still give R-Type a good play-through every so often with no additional assistance.
I can't believe no one has mentioned these yet.
Megaman 1. The very first one on NES
-No save system or continues. You get 3 lives to make it through the game.
-Very few options to replenish your health
The Everquest minigame called "Train! loading... corpse run" was very stressful to the player.
Basically any death in the first 5 years of the game was a huge ordeal, almost a game in and of itself. "Corpse Run... coming summer 1999." I miss it.
Just be careful, because after a while it becomes instinctual, but you can get the wrong impulse, and then save the state while you're dying.
I'm replaying Doom 3 right now on the hardest setting. With headphones on, the superb and sensory overloading sound, and the seemingly never ending waves of monsters, it is stressful, but fun.
One of my favorite games! This one doesn't stress me out too much. The only thing that does a bit is the little clickity-click of the spider-head things when you're crawling through vents. Otherwise, I'm usually pretty well prepared for things in this game.
