ASUS PG279Q 144hz 1440P IPS G-Sync

Not with an NVIDIA GPU and an 8-bit panel. Any adjustments you make to the LUT will add banding.
Full-screen games will typically reset the LUT as well, losing your calibration.

With 120/144 Hz on the desktop, temporal dithering should work quite well now!

I don't see the problem with the gamma, it looks like 2.4 BT1886 gamma, which is 2.4 gamma and goes down a bit near black so there is no black crushing.

Struck a deal to trade up to this baby when sending the PG278Q in for RMA.
Haven't noticed any faults as of yet, and the IPS screen is a bit easier on the eyes than the TN.
A big difference I'd say is the coating is a good bit closer to glossy.

Interesting Asus just had me RMA my PG278Q yesterday because it died. Did you have to ask for that as a replacement or did they just straight up replace your PG278Q with a PG279Q?

Generally, the shop handles warranty services here in sweden. And they try very hard to keep their customers.
I doubt you'll have the same luck talking directly to ASUS.

Kept looking at it at Amazon but found it hard to pull that $799 trigger. Don't have to worry about it now because Amazon isn't accepting any more orders.

Visa card dodged the bullet for now.

They probably jumped the gun on their prior status.

I'll believe it when I see it so far as this monitor actually showing up this year.

In stock anywhere? Would this monitor be on floor display at microcenter?

I was in MicroCenter last week, and the guy I talked to in the monitor area and he said he didn't know when they were getting them in stock. So I'd assume (if the guy knew anything) that they will eventually carry them in store.

I'll be quite pissed if that ends up being the case. I'd have gone with the Acer, as the few extra frames aren't worth it to me. I just think the Acer is ugly and won't go with my setup, especially my other monitors.

They don't charge until it ships.

Uh, its out other places :p

Didn't one of the reviews say that Asus stated that there would be no shortages of these monitors? If so, that means that they are stockpiling them so people can get them when they become available.

Worst company ever!

According to others, Amazon has started to send out notifications that they will ship within the week.

I didn't receive any notification for mine however I decided to cancel my order a few minutes ago and go with the Dell instead. The more I read about this the more issues I see. I'll settle for colors that aren't quite as good and save the $140. I'm kicking myself because Amazon had 3 Dells in stock last night but I didn't make up my mind until this morning. Hopefully they get some more in soon.

I wish the best of luck to everyone getting one. Hopefully your bleed will be minimal. Something tells me that most people will be perfectly content with theirs and that I'm being overly cautious but time will tell.

I was one of those 3. I think another was from overclock.net.

Would it be a bad idea to consider a PG278Q at this point? I ask because here in Canada its on sale for $880 and the new version is a few hundred more. I am in need to upgrade my current monitor and dont plan to get a new one after this for quite some time.

Yes. Dell S2716DG was $799 on "sale" from $999 this week on Dell Canada. Expect it to go on sale again soon.

PG279Q is currently overpriced on NCIX - this is not necessarily unusual for new items they get in that will be in demand. If you are not in a rush wait for price to normalize by NCIX and other retailers to get stock.

Apparently this is pretty much better in every way. If you're ok with a TN panel, I'd look at the new Dell instead, I don't know if they have black Friday deals in Canada, but I know the Dell will have a deal here. With this vs the old, you're getting the latest version of G-sync, IPS, 165hz vs 144hz and an HDMI input in addition to DP.

yes

if I was trying to save a bit of cash I would opt for the ASUS MG279Q (freesync Version) it can be found for around $550 and its apparently the same panel less the Gsync,

He lives in Canada. The cost doesn't translate here unfortunately. Everything is a mess.

MG279Q - $800 CAD on "sale" currently.
PG278Q - $890 CAD on "sale" currently.
S2716G - $999 CAD currently, was $799 on "sale" this Wednesday (11/4/2015). Dell has confirmed with me today that there will be a sale again "soon", probably Black Friday.
PG279Q - Pre-order for $1,199 CAD. Listed as the same price on the US site though but in USD. Normal tactic for NCIX on pre-orders of highly anticipated items.

As you can see in my sig, I haven't skimped on anything thus far, so I may as well get the newest. Thanks.

So if I'm running a single GTX 980Ti, realistically, how will I get along with this monitor? What can I expect, broadly speaking?

I run a single 980 Ti with my XB270HU and I honestly feel zero need to add a second for SLI. G-Sync is just that good... anything above 80-90 FPS and you're golden. The 980 Ti kicks QHD butt :) Of course, YMMV and it depends on what games you play. It eats BF4 for lunch. I have 150% resolution scale in BF4 and I rarely dip below 100 FPS, usually in the 120-130's in large 64 player Conquest maps. Something like Witcher 3 it might be worth it to SLI, but I haven't gotten to that title yet.

Super!

I have Witcher 3 and Metal Gear Phantom Pain here, too. Obviously I understand I'd peel back some of the AA and that sort of thing but overall it sounds like I should be in good shape.

I'm starting to look at a monitor replacement. Right now I have an old Dell 3007 FPW. I really liked this monitor but it is starting to show it's age. It has some dark vertical bars/lines that show up on bright scenes (on the beach in GTA5 for example).

I cannot find the spec sheet for this monitor, but supposedly it is 11ms (GTG). It does 2560x1600.

My PC is:

2500k
16gb ram
nvidia 980gtx

I'm looking at the PG279Q and PG278Q for about $800. Alternatively I can get a used replacement for my current 3007 for about $300ish.

Just how good are these PG monitors? I will be using the monitor for BF4, CS:GO, Fallout and GTA5.

Trying to decide if I should spluge and get an 'upgrade'... even tho I would be losing 3 inches of screen.

Check Dell S2716DG, it is probably better than PG278Q.

I think I'm leaning towards either PG279Q or xb270hu

I want G-Sync
I'm pretty sure I want IPS

I just need to find some head to head reviews of those two monitors...

If you go with a TN panel the Dell S2716DG seems like the winner so far. It has a HDMI port over the PG278Q and from the people who have gotten them so far it seems like there are fewer issues then the PG278Q. TFT Central will have a review up in the next couple weeks which should shed some more light.

If you want to go with an IPS then the PG279Q is probably the way to go. It seems to have less major issues (dead / stuck pixels) then any of the others. That being said a lot of people are having issues with bleeding and color uniformity. I don't know if anyone in the USA has gotten theirs yet but I would assume it is going to be more of the same.

Theoretically the IPS monitors should be a big step above the TN monitors but the issues they are having at the moment aren't making them worth the price. Waiting a few more weeks for more reviews to come in would probably be the safest bet. If you play the lottery and can manage to get a good one then it would be well worth it in my opinion. It just seems like no one has gotten a perfect one besides reviewers at this point.

The PG279Q has never actually been in stock. Amazon had a preorder page for a while but that's it. According to SeaFoam a few posts up the preorders should be going out very soon. If Amazon didn't oversell them then I suppose they will be available soon as well. If you are OK with Neweggs return policy you could keep an eye on them too.
