Blizzard buys Candy Crush...World gone mad.

A WOW with better graphics.

Do you think that would be a good business for them? I'm not sure how'd they could do it without fracturing their existing playerbase, which would not be good for either Blizzard or the players.

I think "WoW with better graphics" is an MMO genre best left to their competitors. There have been a few contenders in the last few years, but all of them failed to even approach WoW's success. I'm not sure "graphics" are why people play WoW or that "better graphics" are enough to convince WoW players to move to another game, even if Blizzard themselves made that game.

Now, I could see them potentially having success with a new non-Warcraft based MMO IP. If the rumored "World of Starcraft" ever materializes, I'll be there on day one.

That's what Titan was trying to be. Whatever Blizzard's other faults are they were willing to cancel a project they spent seven years and several million dollars on because it wasn't going to be up to their standards.

Pretty much this. not to mention they had seen every previous "wow killer" fail. WoW has/had something that no other MMO has been able to capture. Years of lore, the tongue in cheek humor, pop culture references etc. WoW wasnt hugely innovative, it was EQ all over again but much more entertaining partially for the reasons listed above.

Even in its declining state WoW stomps all over every other MMO out there (those korean MMO's dont count ;P )

I dont think a new MMO just being innovative is going to be enough, it needs that perfect storm that WoW has/had that keeps people playing.

The last and Best game Blizzard is going to make is WOW. Foreigners are making all the good games today unless it's a targeted Kickstarter game with a actual vision.

Somehow I think Activision's due dilligence and number crunching analysis of this acquisition prior to purchase went a little further than "I don't personally like King's game, it's stupid". Just a guess.

HAHAHA got a good chuckle out of this response.

Honestly, I think the valuation on King was a great deal for Blizzard. King had ~$2.3 billion USD revenues in 2014. So we are talking less than a 3 times revenue multiplier for a massive, quickly growing software company. Wow, that's cheap!

On the other hand you have consistent bumblers like Yahoo paying $1.1b for tumblr which produces ? ad revenue. Or how about Whatsapp for $19b. LOLZ.

Ok, make it happen.

Why limit your market? One of the big draws of wow is the fact it can run on ultra settings and look great on a higher end computer, and also give a good exprience on low settings for those people with old computers. It's simple and has worked for over 10 years. It's all about the numbers, meaning the more people the game is available to, the more people that will play it.

Believe it or not, this move/buy by Blizzard, just secured WoW for another 5 to 10 years.
lol

Quit while you are way behind. Trust me, just stop posting at this point dude.

Because no one here has a defense for blizzard going from AAA titles to the mobile gaming market? please anyone. feel free to speak up.

They fucked up D3 with childish mechanics and RMAH (which was undoubtedly a test for Titan), then backpedaled.
They fucked up WoW with childish mechanics and homogenization and lack of actual new content, cutting the last expansion in half
They fucked up Starcraft with no LAN play and a segmented community.
And now they're pushing for the straight to cash Mobile Audience.

Weee Go Blizzard! Another once great developer is now a mobile games developer! AWESOME!

The Company Activision-Blizzard bought King, not Blizzard ... King will continue to produce mobile games with the assistance of Activision ... there is nothing here about Blizzard moving into the mobile space

That said, ALL smart companies should have at least some presence there since that is where the users are ... console gamers are declining (although they are still good for certain genres) ... PC gamers continue to grow and Blizzard is already well established in that market ... mobile gamers are the new growth segment ... companies ignore that segment at their own peril ... however, given the demographics of the mobile segment they are a totally separate group from either console or PC gamers and you can satisfy them them without cannibalizing or abandoning the PC/Console business

I just like to play video games regardless of platform. Good or bad, I am a gamer and no single platform defines me.

Never in a million years.. Would I have thought...BLIZZARD..OF ALL GAMING CREATORS....To buy...candy crush..

What's with the sarcasm though? Blizzard Entertainment has only one mobile title (Hearthstone), and it's excellent. It's an almost exact parity of the PC version of the title, which is exactly what the community deserves. The direction they are taking as a mobile developer (making sure that mobile players get everything PC players do) is what is needed to move mobile to a core experience across the board. If all mobile developers were doing what Blizzard Entertainment is doing, mobile would be a great space for core gamers.

Dude you make great point unfortunately the Blizzard defense squad is in full force. They are worse then the EA apologist. :D

If all mobile developers were doing what Blizzard Entertainment is doing, mobile would be a great space for core gamers.

Mobile will always suck for >50% of genres due to touch-only controls. It sucks. Even for genres where you think it would be good (turn based stuff) its not great. The mobile version being "as good as the PC version" is disingenuous at best. Its a mobile title that has a PC port. Of course it has all "features" of the PC game.

If all PC/Console developers do what Blizz is doing, there won't be any good games left being made.

PS You sound like an industry employee when you explicitly spell out "Blizzard Entertainment" and use terms like "core gamers" in the same sentence. Don't forget the ™ next time.

I know you haven't played it, but I'll just remind you that it was PC-first and available on PC for a year before eventually being ported to only the iPad. The phone version has been out less than a year and the game was already in full swing before then.

I know you want to paint over it because it doesn't suit your narrative, but it's really excellent when a game that's already great on other platforms gets a mobile version with the same features.

Just trying to differentiate between Activision Blizzard (who just bought King) and Blizzard Entertainment (who didn't). Removing the ambiguity should make this easier for you.

I don't think we are defending Blizzard as much as not holding them accountable for every one of Bobby K's decisions ... Mr. Kotick is the CEO of Activision-Blizzard and it was his (and maybe the Board's) decision to buy King ... I doubt that Michael Morhaime was involved in the decision as it wasn't Blizzard that purchased King but Activision ... it is also fair to differentiate between the policies and actions of EA the publisher vs EA the developer ... but maybe that's just me

Alternatively there are millions of people that enjoy Blizzard games no matter what other people's opinions on them are. I couldn't care less about WoW or Heroes of the Storm but I don't like MMOs or MOBAs so that's a given. Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 are both damn fun games, despite their faults. At least for me they are.

I bet you think Blizzard makes Call of Duty too. Because "Blizzard bought King, ermagerd" makes about as much sense.

There's already a forum for angsty shitposts - its called Reddit. You'll probably have more luck there.

I didn't think it was a shit post.

they're...THEY ARE....they're

No, my grammar was correct but thanks for trying

I said:
"So.... their replacing character models wasn't good for that?"

You're suggesting I could replace it with:
"So.... they are replacing character models wasn't good for that?"

You're wrong.

I'm using the possessive, "their", referring to their action of replacing character models.
Let me know if I can help you out with any other grammar questions....

Not surprised, I don't know of anyone who even plays Blizzard games anymore. Since my friends and I all started with SC/D1/WC2, it was quite easy to see the slow downfall. I don't fault anyone for liking their games though, it's just a new generation of gamers.

I said:

Psst.. I think it would have been more clear if you put an 'of' between "replacing" and "character" :D

dont even argue with this kid, just look at the OP on his last created thread: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1835078&highlight=

Not to mention most of his arguments are bullshit especially about SC2. There IS NO FRAGMENTED COMMUNITY because EVERYONE who has ANY version of SC2 GETS THE MULTIPLAYER UPDATES

Here we are to save the day Blizzard Defense Squad:p

Because God Forbid some of us actually enjoy playing their games and are willing to defend games we enjoy ... no company is perfect, including Blizzard but they are catching a lot of flack for this item that they likely had nothing to do with (and Kotick is getting a free ride while folks blame Blizzard instead of Activision ;) )

God forbid we call the same companys out for being whores. They sold their soul.

Based on what? A bunch of utter bullshit arguments that have been dissproven and are being made by people who admittedly dont even play the games their bitching about?

Clearly the gaming market has changed, good for Blizzard for being smart and making sound decisions I say. Some of you sound like old men yelling at clouds.

And your complaint about this is? Blizzard has several of the premiere IPs in gaming ... they are well known for their excellent cut scenes and they have spent a lot of time, resources, and effort on the Warcraft movie ... not that big a jump for them to take direct ownership of their properties rather than farming them out to others ... personally I would like to see a Diablo show or movie (or Starcraft)

I would like to see Bethesda do something similar ... Nuka Break was a fantastic adaptation of the Fallout property ... would love to see a higher budget professional offering as well ... and Bethesda's other properties also would be valuable (Doom, Elder Scrolls, Dishonored)

Bioshock is another screenworthy property ... I think we might get better movies if we had more developer involvement instead of more Uwe Boll ;)

No my future and my childrends future depend on the mental health of the global population. The stupider they are the worse future we face.

My condolences for the loss of your children's future, the mental health of the global population declined a long time ago.

I was devastated to learn Blizzard was in it for the money. Is nothing sacred anymore?

Truth is, Blizzard hasn't been independent for a long, long time. It was never "special" to begin with.

Money is the biggest motivator.. kinda why Bungie went off into Destinyville and left Halo to be a shadow of its former self.
