So we hear that Bizz is making a follow up IP to WOW. Titan.
We get Overwatch.

WOW continues to wither away...

Now Blizzard shows their true intent, make money, that is it.

They are not interested in making great games anymore, just squeeze every last dollar out of every game possible.

I suppose that with all the mergers and such Blizzard is not the same company anymore, but this stupid puzzle game thing is just so typical. The stupid trash makes 800 Million a year.

Oh and we get a wow movie coming up woot!

You were expecting? Fully anticipated this after Activision purchased them. [Let's be real: Activision, not Blizzard, is running the show].

Blizzard literally isn't the same company anymore. Since the Activision buy-out they've bled out entirely. It's like Bioware, they're gone but the name survives.

Previously, I couldn't understand why Konami would want to abandon AAA market and go make mobile games, given how saturated the market is. But I guess there's something I'm missing here, as the mobile market seem to be attracting big publishers for some reason.

Everything just makes me even more sure that people are stupid, uneducated and ignorant, that they play games like this regularly and spend so much money on it. And don't tell me that it's your money you can do whatever you want with it. No my future and my childrends future depend on the mental health of the global population. The stupider they are the worse future we face.

In fairness it is Activision-Blizzard that made the purchase and they bought the company (King) not just Candy Crush ... all big companies are in the business to make money (that's how they stay in business) ... there have been many very good companies who couldn't manage this element and are no longer in business so I can forgive a company the desire to be healthy financially

Also, Activision and Blizzard have been weak in the mobile space up to now ... it is difficult to move into this space from scratch so it is understandable that a new player might want to buy an established player in order to support their expansion in this space ... I will reserve judgement on this until we see more on the direction they wish to go with this

The people that play candy crush type games are saying the same thing about you. Why would anyone spend that kind of money on a computer. It all comes down to it's their money and they can do what they want with it. If you can't understand that your childrens' future is going to be in worse shape then you think.

Company in "in it to make money" shocker.

Why are you so butt-hurt over it?

Oh, I don't give a shit, I am just pointing out that being "IN IT FOR THE MONEY" doesn't mean you can't create great games.
Blizzard has stopped innovating, and caring about quality and now they are just pulling the cows teet harder and harder.

And dude, shove that "butt hurt" bullshit. Just because your butt hurts because you have your head in it doesn't mean mine hurts.

So what's the point of your post?

King have somewhere in the region of 475m active users per month across their various platforms (mobile, Facebook etc) and c. $1.5bn from just one of their IPs (Candy Crush) a year.

That's a huge target market that is already generating insane revenues.

Blizzard have a new IP in the works.

Your reaction to my "butt-hurt" quip and your OP suggests you're somehow irked by this decision? So again, what's the point of your post?

If Blizzard was only focused on money, they wouldn't put the time and effort that they continue to do in Diablo III. Sure, the game still lacks a lot, but if you know where the game started vs where it is know you'd know they've spent resources along the way with virtually nothing to gain. Diablo is not a recurring source of income for Blizzard.

What is your rationale for Blizzard not innovating? They have tried many new things with their games (some of which that don't always work). They also support their games for years longer than many other game companies. Some of their changes haven't been successful but they haven't resisted making changes to remove or modify unpopular elements. I would say that Blizzard does innovate but they don't have a formula that can please all users all the time.

It's the age old issue of people thinking that TONS of changes not coming means they've stopped caring. As kbrickley put it, they can't please everyone, at all times. There is only so much WoW can do honestly, that goes double for all their other games too.

Blizzard literally isn't the same company anymore. Since the Activision buy-out they've bled out entirely. It's like Bioware, they're gone but the name survives.

What buy-out? Activision never bought Blizzard. Sierra owned Blizzard and when Vivendi bought Sierra, Blizzard came with them. Vivendi then bought Activision and merged all of their gaming division under a group called Activision-Blizzard.

It's not bad they bought it it's that they bought it for 6 Billion.....

You do have to pay market value for a company ... if you are lucky and buy a company that is faltering you get it cheap ... King has 2 Billion in annual revenues with 500 million profits ... that is reflected in a robust stock price ... there are not that many premium mobile companies left and King could actually be a good acquisition for Activision (they have a large and loyal base of female gamers so this acquisition is unlikely to cannibalize other parts of the Activision business but to give them an incremental add)

They put time into creating a new expansion that people paid $40 for. This is Season 3 or 4? Blizzard has only done maybe 4 events since charging people $40 for an expansion? Path of Exile does at least a new event a week I bet. On any given day there will be a 4 hour race, 1 week race, 1 month race, etc. That's an Indie company doing content releases compared to a Corporation...

Oh yes, and my latency in D3 is so bad nowadays after their "fix the latency" patch, that I can't even play without every mob on my screen stop moving and then when the server catches up I get one shot.

In short, Blizzard does very little to maintain their games unless there is an expansion to purchase involved.

Here's hoping they'll make a ingame version of Candy Crush for WoW. It'd help pass time while you wait in a dungeon queue.

So a company buys a money printing machine and you're convinced that they don't want to make good games anymore?

Right.

"Blizzard Blizzard Blizzard"

This wasn't Blizzard's call, it was Bobby Kotick's. Activision calls the shots.

Hearthstone, Reaper Of Souls.... Both fantastic games

Peasantry  ... really

what would be the opposite of fan boy as that seems to be strong here as well

Slightly informed people that realize the big modern gaming companies are all about money, so much so they're making certain types of gameplay ensures an addictive like quality that brings more sales than just having a solid game in addition to more and more data mining hooks that in themselves create a new source of income for the company which all together has created an entire industry of shit-cash grabs and addicted players who don't know any better? Or something like that.

RoS = half the shit the original title should have had, while still having core issues that will never be fixed. Diablo by name only.
Hearthstone = A fucking P2W card game. But hey, its polished and it has all my favorite WC characters, wee!

I will ignore the funny and pointed "derp derp" attacks.

What amazes me is that KING was worth 5.9B, and that it makes 800M a year. 800M a YEAR.
Now I don't think it is a *bad* purchase for any company, but when you consider the stupid nature of King's IP it staggers the mind.

As for Blizzard, let's face it, there will never be a *new* WOW. Ever.

As I said years ago, the only WOW killer will be WOW.

And yeah, I consider Blizz to be producing crap. Overwatch especially.

I mean, look at Steam, at least they are trying to innovate, Steam link, controller, Big picture etc.

How long can A/B keep cramming COD and WoW expansions down our throat?

Until they no longer sell. Despite the subscriber numbers for WoW going down they are still pulling in a ton of money per month ($84 million per month on an average of $15 per month). COD games still sell insane amounts every year and then keep bringing in more money from DLC and season passes. Then don't forget the massive cash cow that is Skylanders.

It's so obvious that you're not actually considering the games.

Hearthstone is so clearly not P2W that it's hilarious to even suggest it. In fact of all the big F2P games I can think of it's the *least* P2W since literally all content can be obtained very easily without money and without that much time.

Reaper added tons of content and is still adding more content (for free, I should add). Is your claim really that Reaper is bad because it added good content that should have been in the original Diablo 3?

Somehow I think Activision's due dilligence and number crunching analysis of this acquisition prior to purchase went a little further than "I don't personally like King's game, it's stupid". Just a guess.

As long as people keep buying them?

true dat, I guess I just wish that instead of sitting on WOW Blizzard would use their INCREDIBLE talent and power to create a truly worth successor to WOW.

I have played so many MMOs and when I go back to WOW it is such a wonderful game, easily still the best of the best, but then I look at say, SKYRIM modded out and looking so awesome and I think, could WOW be like this?
I haven't played W3 but I hear similar things about that game.

We complain about this generation of consoles not being truly NEXT GEN, but where is my next gen WOW?

I don't understand this opposition to companies making money ... many of the game companies from the 90's no longer exist because they couldn't make money ... Blizzard has successfully survived a couple of acquisitions and although there are some valid criticisms of their products they continue to have lots of recurring sales ... you could interpret that to mean that gamers are insane and continue to purchase their defective products OR you could assume that they satisfy some portion of the market that allows them to obtain ongoing sales ... although I enjoy quality PC game releases as much as the next person I have never felt the need to question the sanity of people who like games I do not or buy the games that I prefer to skip

ultimately Diablo has met some gamer need as the combined sales of the base D3 game and the RoS expansion have now exceeded 30 million units ... only two PC games have higher sales numbers (GTA V and Minecraft) ... Blizzard makes mistakes and bad judgement calls like many companies but they seem willing to try and recover from those ... I am willing to continue to give them business on Diablo and Starcraft ... if they ever return to RTS and create a Warcraft IV I will support that also ... not out of blind loyalty or fanboy preferences but because I actually enjoy playing their games ... I don't feel a need to support their other titles as they are not genres I play

Hearthstone = A fucking P2W card game.

I got Legend before I ever paid a cent for anything in Hearthstone. It's more difficult now that there are more cards, but it's still far from P2W when all paying does is get you random draws and shiny gold cosmetics.

Maybe you just suck?

So you're complaining about what?

WoW can and has replaced art assets for the game, improved textures and resolutions...

WoW 2 is just these continuing content added to WoW... why should they cannibalize the players and force them to switch games when they can, and do, literally just improve the existing art assets?

Skills have been reworked multiple times in WoW. Character models have been replaced, new zones with new art assets have been added.... What content are you looking for?

It's a CARD GAME. A 2 minute video / some screenshots tells me everything I need to know about it

Now I'm not sure if you're mad because you think it's "pay to win" or because it has CARDS in it.

That's what Titan was trying to be. Whatever Blizzard's other faults are they were willing to cancel a project they spent seven years and several million dollars on because it wasn't going to be up to their standards.
