So much for all the good Uber news we had last week. It was nice while it lasted though. ;)

In the US, however, Uber was recently sued by Los Angeles and San Francisco district attorneys, who said Uber's claims of industry-leading screening were "completely worthless," since it fails to fingerprint drivers. It recently updated the claim, saying that traffic checks by airport police in those cities uncovered over 25 Uber drivers with criminal or driving records, including a sex offender and convicted murderer.

At least with Uber, if such a terrible thing happens you know who did it and that person can be brought to justice!

I have a good friend that was raped in Spain by a taxi driver, the guy was never found. I can only imagine how often this happens.

Glad to see some justice served!

Convicted rapists deserve to be shot and buried in shallow graves

I have no sympathy for them because of the damage they cause.

From what I've seen, trama like that lasts for decades, if not for the victim's entire life.

This. There is an electronic record of every ride, including pickup point, destination, who the driver was, and who the passenger was. Versus a cab where there is literally nothing...

I'm not saying they shouldn't tighten up their screening, but I'd say the fact that he was found, caught, charged, and convicted is good news.

Yea...I'm going with Uber still being the safer option.

Although the driver could be nominated for stupid criminal of the day for NOT realizing everything he was doing was being logged...

Uber: maybe less rapes than a regular cab. Maybe not.

Sounds like a winner for their marketing department.

rapists need to pony up the cash and go fuck prostitutes.

Rape isn't about sex. It is often about power and control. A prostitute is in control, and does not really satisfy the rapists need to dominate and 'hunt'.

That said, All rapists should be dealt with in a very simple way. I'll leave it to you to figure out what that simple punishment should be.

It does and some people like to marginalize it. There's been a lot of posts made on this forum by people who lack any kinda empathy that make you just shake your head and close the browser tab because of how clueless they are.

Totally agree. Its one of the few crimes I think deserves super harsh penalties.

That's probably because (just guessing here) you're not as likely to have to deal with that kind of crime happening to you and don't understand that any risk at all is too high. I'm okay with Uber being something that only men use, but I'd prefer to see the company's assets frozen and all of the employees thrown in jail for building a system that enables creeps to get their revolting organs out to sexually assault thousands of innocent people all over the planet. That kind of business model is criminal just by nature of it existing and all of them should be in jail forever for it.

Former chef convicted of rape.

So we shouldn't eat anymore?

Agreed on harsh penalties for offenders, it's a messed up crime, but don't really agree on uber being something that generally causes rape. If someone wants to rape someone else, they'll do it anywhere, anytime.

Well maybe so, but since the only way to stop that completely is to get rid of half of the planet's people completely, we should at least hold the company accountable somehow. They should be required to post a huge notification that comes up each time the app is used warning people that the use of their services may lead to sexual assault or murder by their employees so that people can't say that they don't know the risks of getting in a car with a strange guy they've never seen before.

Ahah, fair enough.

Some of the drivers are actually females. I've never used uber, but is there an option to choose your driver's sex? Granted, then you have to worry about the drivers themselves getting attacked.

I don't at all blame you. Getting into a car with a stranger is the stuff that turns into nightmares all the time for people. The only thing missing is like the stereotypical "Free Candy" on the side of the car.

Good. Cut it off with some dull scissors. Then scoop his grapes out with a mellon baller. While he's awake, and with no painkillers.

And if he passes out, stop, and stop the bleeding, until he comes around again. Then continue.

Uber's CEO seems like a bit of a sleaze, from his interviews and comments. I'm not surprised that is reflected in Uber's reputation. All they have to do is fix their shitty screening system, especially if they want to hold themselves to a higher standard. Shooting themselves in the foot.

@Converge. lol please continue. You are amusing, like a forum jester. The simpleton of some country inbreeding with some racist/xenophobic tendencies.

Oh geez, look at what you did there  Clever. Your uselessness tickles me! Feel free to comment on the topic if you want. Uber, India, Rape, Dirty nasty people.... etc.

Sounds like a typical bullshit response since you've got nothing to counter with. I'm sorry you have to live in such a shit hole.

"On April 29, India's government inflamed the debate over gender violence and its tolerance in the country by announcing that marital rape should remain legal because of cultural and religious norms."

Yeah. About that.

Yep... Still got nothing hmm? I guess I'm just an one of those lowly uneducated types.... The type that despises disgusting rape cultures. Wow, how pathetic. Thanks for showing me the light! Obviously I pissed you off since you live in that shit hole, but facts are facts guy.

You have some serious selective reading abilities. Noone denies that those horrible things are happening. You've just gone and applied it to every citizen and then gone on a rage rant when dismissed. Your nonsense has already been deleted lol That says it all fella. Rage on, whatever floats your simple boat = )

The point is valid regardless of your empty criticism aimed at the format instead of the content.

It's also still a terrible analogy. Not the worst one I've ever seen though since there's like a bunch of stupid car analogies in this forum and those are a lot closer to the bottom of the barrel.

Taxi companies should be jailed? Bus drivers should be jailed? Public transportation in general should just be banned? I don't think the world works the way you think it works.

The slippery slope fallacy again? What is it with people and trying to use that as if it's effective? We're talking about Uber which is a company that exists in order to enable sexual predators to force innocent people into a situation in which they're in control and can appease their sicko desires. It's no better than the people who made up bitcoins in order to invent a digital trade thing that can support the trade of drugs and support human trafficking.

Ugh today must be your troll day because I can't take this seriously.

Well, write it off if you wanna. I think it's better to be dismissive when you don't have an argument than to use a fallacy. It's like the lesser of two debate making evils.

Would rather receive a raping in a comfortable backseat of an SUV than a cramped Toyota Prius with a pungent smell of pine..
