Maybe it's just because I'm used to gaming on a PC, but think that is the first time I have ever heard "a steady 30fps" and "I think you'll be pleased" mentioned in the same sentence.

The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of Bethesda's hotly anticipated Fallout 4 will run at a 'steady' 30fps, the studio's marketing boss has said. Speaking in response to a fan on Twitter, Pete Hines confirmed that gamers can expect a "Solid 30 FPS. I play it all the time. I think you'll be pleased."

Reminds me of the arguments 10+ years ago that people had over 30 fps vs 60 fps with some claiming that the human brain couldn't even register more than 30 fps. 3DFX even put out a demo showing 30 fps vs 60 fps to prove there was a difference to get people to buy into their newfangled SLI technology. Good times!

Hopefully this doesn't mean they'll cap it to 30fps on the PC copy.

Truth is, why do you guys even care. You will not buy a console and, therefore, will not play it on a console. However, although I am a gamer on a PC, I also game on a console and think the PC Master Race stuff is just plain...... After all, how hard is it to spend more money and get a better experience. However, that does not make you a better person. ;)

That said, I will not be buying FO4 because I have not played any of the other ones. Someone tell me, what would be a good reason to get FO4, serious question.

I'd chalk it up more to Bethesda's incompetence at programming and a creaky old engine more than a lack of power. Fallout 4 is still basically using the 15-year old Morrowind Engine (NetImmerse/GameBryo/Creation or whatever they want to call it now).

Thankfully Steam now have a refund feature. Day 1 refund for me if they cap it.

Doesn't mean people cannot have an opinion. It's only normal for anyone interested in gaming to discuss console hardware.

Back when console used to use specifically design hardware and could rival PC in terms of gaming performance, they used to receive plenty of praises. Surely no one had any issues with that. Likewise, now that they've dropped the ball, they deserve the criticism they get.

That's like saying the modern Source engine is just ID Tech 2. Very ignorant comment.

The fact that Bethesda waited so long to announce the game & release date soon after with the PC getting the same release date bodes as well as it could for us. Barring the usual bugs, I'm calling for radioactive clouds and light acid rain. :D

Better, stronger, and faster does tend to include better. ;)

Is this game going to be like Skyrim where anything over 100 or so FPS causes physics anomalies? Things like arrows not firing, far away animals shooting up in the sky and falling to their deaths, etc.

The Source engine was completely rewritten to the point where it was unrecognizable. I can tell you from my own experience in reverse engineering the executable that Skyrim still has similar function calls and strings to those found in Morrowind. The basic underlying data structures are the same. You still have the pitfalls of Morrowind's engine like piss-poor pathfinding, leveled list issues with mods, no concept of structured exception handling, etc.

Not a better person...that's silly, but someone who wants to have a generally better experience? Definitely.

For me, the game looks like a good time, plus I really enjoy the whole wasteland universe.

Loafing on my couch across the room from my TV 30FPS is generally fine.

That said, obviously buying Fallout 4 for PC because mods.

It is extremely annoying and borderline pathetic. Fanboyism is just as prevalent on the PC as it is with consoles. It's all just gaming, people need to get over themselves. Play it on whatever you want and stop bashing other shit and thinking your some how advanced because your prefer one thing or another. I prefer PC for mostly everything but I still own a console and get plenty of enjoyment from it.

I have titles on PS that are 60fps and 30fps, and while 60fps is much nicer, I have no issues with 30fps games after playing for a few minutes I'm used to it. Going from MGSV at 60 back to Arkham Knight at 30 it was extremely noticeable, until about 5 minutes of playing and my eyes adjusted. And I've been playing the shit out of Knight and it's been one of the most enjoyable gaming experiences I've had in a while, the whole thing is just great. To think I would have somehow enjoyed it so much more if it was at 60fps is a bit ridiculous. Would I prefer it? Absolutely..... But it is what it is.... And the game looked phenomenal too on PS. It definitely could have used some more AA but aside from that it was gorgeous.

Good points but the engine keeps evolving. If they have their wits about them they'll continue to chip away at all the issues until it's essentially a new engine...

Who am I kidding it's gonna be Skyrim engine in drag.

I get the PC is better. Yes, it is. The PC has always been better than consoles. It moves faster. Consoles have a longer R&D period, a longer shelf life, and does very well. But, it's not a PC. That's fine, and it's the truth. No doubts about it. But, the PC Master Race BS is like the smug hipster shit. It makes people look like an ass. Too busy being smug.

I like games. The platform doesn't really matter. Does it look better on a PC? Sure. But - I. Don't. Care. I'm here to chew bubble gum and play games. :D

I'm getting FO4 for PC, not only because of the increased fidelity but for the mods. Sure, PS4 and XBone will support modding, but I'm not sure how playable their mods will be if the vanilla game is just maintaining a steady 30 fps.

:D

Is it just me or is this console gen only got at most 2 years left in it?

All I keep hearing out of devs is "Its not HD" and "Its not 60FPS"

In an age of 4K televisions, its a no brainer current gen consoles won't last much longer.

:D

I know the limitations of the console. I've always known my consoles were inferior to something else (console vs. arcade; console vs. PC; console vs. Commodore 64) at the time.

Plus, with my PC, I can do a lot more than 1080P. 4K monitor, sitting fairly close looks great.

I also have a nice home theater. I still watch the inferior Netflix compared to Blu-ray sometimes. I still enjoy the movie I'm watching, though. So, I'm happy as fuck.

The reason PC superiority will always be pointed out in every thread is so peasants never forget.

This is what I meant, thanks. :) I do not game like I used to but, I still enjoy it nonetheless and do not fret about things so much so anymore. I am on 4k gaming now but only with an R9 290 so, I have an upgrade path in the future and a good reason for one. (1080P on the PC would not need an upgrade from what I have.)

I am a fast, strong, powerful distance runner but that does not make me better than someone else. (And I have to work hard for that.) If that is the case, then being able to simply buy something does not make you better either, enjoy.

Not that I think Bethesda will do this but there are a surprising number of console ports that are locked to 30 fps on the PC. Not only that, but a large number of those have animation and/or physics systems tied to that frame rate. When you unlock the frames hilarity ensues.

Really? Considering almost all computers are incapable of gaming at 4k as well? Good luck with that.

I've never played any Fallout games either but neither did I any TES games and what a great game Skyrim was. I doubt you will need to have played any previous games in the series to get the full enjoyment of coming in at a squeal.

Because it sets a bad precedent which DOES end up affecting PC gaming. I mean we've seen NFS Rivals, Dead Rising 3, The Evil Within, Arkham Knight, and many others all come out locked to 30fps. Some of these can be fixed, a lot of them can't.

The "spend more money, get a better experience" argument doesn't mean anything then if 30fps becomes the industry standard, so that no amount of money will get you more FPS. As for Bethesda, Skyrim was locked at 60fps, which is fine for me on my system, however I hear that VR suffers at 60fps and really needs 75 or 90fps to have a solid experience. So let's make sure people can't run their game that high because we need to optimize for consoles? Point is, this hatred of 30fps isn't coming out of nowhere. If PC gamers never had to settle for 30, we honestly wouldn't care what the consoles ran at. Unfortunately that's not what's been happening

Welp, that is not the consoles fault, now is it. You want the games on the PC to not be locked at 30fps, do not buy the game and speak with your money. Consoles play how they play because of the purpose behind them, which is not a high end gaming PC. They never have been, either, despite what some claim here by showing what came inside of them.

Sorry but, this does not seem to be a "30fps hatred" but a console hatred, I am PC Master Race, HERE ME ROAR! :D Lol. Besides, why would Sony or Microsoft produce a High End gaming PC level console, sell it at a severe lose and gut the PC hardware market as a consequence.
