Star Wars: Battlefront Reboot

Wish I could play this but can't play on the weekends.....
eyes get all funky at work =)

Just fired this up and so far not impressed. I only played the single player where you fight waves of enemies which wasn't even challenging and seems quite dull and generic, the health regeneration and unlimited ammo for the standard blaster rifle (Or whatever its called) made it easy. Graphics look nice and I'm getting an average of 40-50 FPS at Ultra settings at 2160p.

However, I tried joining a multiplayer game and it has no server browser and wasn't able to find a game for some odd reason. Really don't like how multiplayer games lack a server browser and insist on using a shitty matchmaking service which doesn't even work properly. For DICE to sink down to this level is rather surprising because their BF games actually have a server browser with dedicated server support.

Just wait till everyone gets the beta tomorrow, you'll have no issue finding games.

I wonder if Battlefront has a "hardcore" option. I found BF4 boring and frustrating on normal. Hardcore it occupied me for hundreds of hours.

Alright...I haven't read this whole thread, so please don't crucify me as a I have a few minutes before I need to go to work.

I played BF3 for 300-ish hours. Had tons of fun, but eventually just burned out on it.

I purchased BF4 and in my opinion it was basically the same gameplay wise as BF3, and I was bored in under 20 hours. Didn't offer me anything new or exciting at all.

I don't want to drop another $60 on a BF3 re-skin. I don't really care about graphics, destruction, etc. if the gameplay is the same old tired crap.

Worth the purchase? I'm unfortunately out of town all weekend so I won't be able to play the beta until Monday.

looks like the unlock time has been moved up 30 minutes to 12:30 PM (EST)...4 hours left!

My impressions from having played about an hour:

-matchmaking sucks balls.
-graphics are nice enough, but nothing jaw dropping. Performance is consistently smooth with few noticeable dips.
-sound effects are good.
-gunplay is unsatisfying and lacks impact. You just spam weapon at enemies and hope you make contact (especially because there is no recoil), and its hard to tell where your shots are landing.
-doesn't appear to be any way to co-ordinate teamwork, seems to be mostly people running around aimlessly looking for kills.
-no ping counter (seriously DICE?! How many fucking MP games have you released on PC now??!!), so it is impossible to tell what effect latency is having especially when you get one shotted out of nowhere.
-flying with k/m is a struggle, all direction and movement is controlled with the mouse so to turn with any speed I had to physically lift and reposition the mouse repeatedly. This might be fixable by adjusting movement sensitivity.

This times a million.

I love hardcore!

From all the videos I've seen, the computer AI looks terrible! I've seen videos where someone is 30 ft from a stormtrooper and they're still not getting hit, all while unloading into the trooper. Lack of single player campaign really sucks too, as this had all sorts of potential for some epic story telling.

Did you get to play as Luke or DV yet?

I believe I read somewhere you find some sort of powerup that is randomly scattered across the map.
Which if true, kind of sucks considering in the other battlefront, you had to earn it, not find it.

These issues are all because its a console port. I havent read anything that they had a seperate team for the pc build like the battlefield series has.

Some more impressions:

-doesn't appear to be a way to change teams, so if you want to play with friends on the opposing team tough luck.
-changing sensitivity didn't fix the wonky flight mechanics, may have to try a gamepad.
-imperials always win the Walker Assault map, I don't know whether its because of poor map design or people not coming to grips with the gameplay, but rebels pretty much get reamed from the outset.
-grenades are infinite, although they do have a cool down timer.
-one of the secondary perks is a sniper rifle with a one shot cool down timer. Irritatingly it means lots of people sitting around sniping.
-aiming with vehicles and turrets feels very imprecise, almost as if mouse acceleration is turned on.
-instant respawns.

At least in Battlefield you can hit ~ and do commands for FPS and such. Nothing like that here?

I setup a user.ini file with the commands in it and it would automatically load at startup, for BF4, I can try in a few hours when this goes live.

Can't find it atm, but I recall reading on another forum that those commands work with SWBF as well.

My impressions so far as well. Generally, gameplay is a bit clunky and it's a twitch/button mashing multi-player FPS -- seems like a clunky BF4. That said, I haven't been playing it long enough to make a final call, but balance seems off e.g. your point on Walkers

If you were looking for a first-person SW simulator, this isn't it.

Reskinned Batlefield Hardline ?

I would try it if it was more like Star Wars Galaxies I used to work with this kid who would talk about mining materials all day in that game.

why not try it for yourself before forming your opinion???...it's a free beta!!...geez

Lets go free beta!!!! I hope its comes close to its expectations....but no space battles already killed it for me.

Got in early so I just finished playing for an hour. Wasn't expecting much from the negativity, but I had a 'blast'. Got almost 900 hours in BF4 and I'm looking for something new because it's getting stale, this will probably take its place. It ran very smooth, no crashes or issues, the match maker seemed to work fine, it immediately got me in on a couple of matches that were just starting, and though I couldn't see the ping, I noticed no lag of any kind.

absolutely love the typical DICE graphics/audio options...Color Blind profiles!, Dynamic Range including Dolby Atmos support!, FULL keyboard remapping (meaning any single key and full side mouse buttons support)

Downloaded the latest nvidia drivers & the game still sits on a black screen...WTH is going on. Every other game on my PC runs fine...

Just played.

I thought it was fun, but only played defend the pods. Interface is kinda weird and I got accused of hacking, which is cool.

Sounds is great, atmosphere is fun, vehicles are meh, combat is meh, gunplay is terrible. The guns are the least satisfying guns I have ever used in any FPS, ever.

Just played for about 45 minutes and was bored about 5 minutes into it. I knew the game was gonna be bad but I didnt think it was gonna be this bad. First off the enviroments are extremely bland and boring. There is nothing going on and it feels very very empty. I also hated how accurate the guns are, doesnt matter if ur moving or crouched they shoot perfect every shot. I tried flying and that just felt completely broken. The whole time playing it I was just thinking how much better bf4 is and why you wouldnt just play bf4. There is so much more going on in the bf4 enviroment and it just feels much more alive. I played as darth vader twice and it just felt like a giant joke. Way too over powered and the controls felt broken. I am not a star wars fan and hate the movies but I figured the game would at least be fun and look good. Well it was boring and the graphics did not impress. BF4 still impresses me to this day with its graphics and I think it blows these out of the water.

graphics nice enough?...you must be playing at 720p...the graphics are excellent...yes it has some low-res textures in places but overall it's photo-realistic in many places...the 'photogrammetry' DICE used to collect data for each material in the game really shows...the lighting and particle effects are stunning...performance never seems to dip under 60 fps with my 970 at 1920 x 1200 and everything at Ultra...as far as sound design, DICE always nails the audio and they nailed the unique sounds of the Star Wars universe

I play at 2560x1600 and I think battlefield looks better in every way. The only thing that looks good in battlefront is the rocks but they dont look that great compared to the rocks in the vanishing of ethan carter. The footprints in the snow looked pretty good too but they vanished after a while except the ones on the main path. Bf4 still stuns me to this day with how good it looks and battlefront was just average looking.

It's "photo-realistic" because they use photogrammetry, like The Vanishing of Ethan Carter game.

Basically they use actual real world movie props from the Star Wars movies and things and photograph them in all angles. Then the software takes these photographs and makes it into a 3d model with the real world textures, this gives things a much more realistic look (because it's from a real object).

This can be done for environment details as well like the rocks and other things.

Played the beta. It is okay, but not that great. The way vehicle spawns are handled is annoying in that you must find power ups (whatever they call them) on the map. I got killed while attempting to call in a fighter, while you are defenseless which is no fun. Because the fighters spawn right over the battle field my first attempt resulted in me spawning right in front of a Tie Fighter. We crashed and both died.

Shooting mechanics are lame, not too many weapons, no prone, lots of unlocking though. Gets old rather quick. Vehicle controls are rather poor and the flight is even worse than BF3/4 if you can imagine that. The AT-AT position is a 1 minute on rails section which is underwhelming. Interface is more suited for a phone app than a PC game.

Graphically it looks like Battlefield 3/4, and runs about the same as BF4. Only difference is my PC gets notably hotter when playing Battlefront. My GTX 970 + 4670K @ 4GHZ seem to get 60 frame rates maxed out at 1920x1080 (FXAA set to medium).

Overall it just doesn't seem like there is much to the game. I know this is a "beta" but not much aside from minor tweaks and bug fixes are going to be implemented.

Sounds is great, atmosphere is fun, vehicles are meh, combat is meh, gunplay is terrible. The guns are the least satisfying guns I have ever used in any FPS, ever.

Or what this guy said.

another crap epic fail from dice.
so bored.
nice visuals but gameplay is kids and the console gamedesign sucks so much ass again

Honestly, it's not a bad game at all. They've made it extreme accessible to literally anybody, and that's just not my type of game. And I'm a Star Wars junkie.

I can see myself picking this up in 2 years when it's $10 and I need to kill some shit when I'm drunk.
