Star Wars: Battlefront Reboot

Battlefield Hardlines beta was released to public access, and look where that game went.

And the beta access for Hardline broke records for amount of participants too.

I'm definitely excited to playing the beta though.
I will probably be buying the game as well, since I loved the first two Battlefronts.

The question we should be asking is:
Rebel or Imperial?

Always someone :p EA can do no good.

BTW you fell right into that LOL. But then again I gave you a softball.

No, just always you and your veneer of apologism for corporate multinationals that couldn't give two fucks about us or your white knighting on their behalf. What is damn hilarious is that EA/DICE have conducted an open "BEMO" for every DICE developed game since BF1942....so no, confidence has nothing to do with it.

early on I was thinking this had the potential to be the greatest MP game ever...now I'm on the fence...they nailed the Star Wars world, characters, audio etc and maybe that's enough but something also seems missing

The good game part is probably what you aren't noticing. I'm very disappointed that basically all AAA multiplayer games are following a similar formula of basically being as simple and accessible as possible, and it's readily apparent what Dice is doing with this game with the powerups and jetpacking and emphasis on infantry (not to mention all the empowered women soldiers on the rebels that Dice has been not so subtly emphasizing in their artwork/videos... you can thank crazy-liberal Swedish culture for that political crap in a SW game).

Anyway, obviously these entities are businesses out to make a return on investment, but when it becomes so painfully obvious they are only setting out to exploit the masses, I mean.. skinner's box mechanics have pretty much become the status quo in games. They're really getting milking the playerbase down to a science. So, in the end I feel like they're just basically making money trees, and not good games. Makes me pretty jaded and lowers my interest in gaming.

I now have to dig around for niche titles from small developers that have enough depth for me to find them enjoyable, like Rust, Natural Selection 2, Elite Dangerous, etc.

That being said I did somewhat enjoy the "hardcore" modes for CoD: MW2 and to a much lesser extent BF3, so maybe there will be something of interest in Battlefront for people like me, but with my last experience with basically every Dice game since BF2, I doubt it.

But no this game is clearly going to just be a really arcadey and shallow pump and dump that is designed to ride the hype train to sell millions of copies, and then to last long enough to pump out a year's worth of DLC. After that Dice/EA says it's on to next year's ride, ala CoD.

So I'm pretty bitter about it to be honest, and really disappointed at the never ending supply of white knights for shit like this. It reminds me of all that white knighting for games like Elder Scrolls Online, and shit like Titanfall. It never ceases to amaze.

(not to mention all the empowered women soldiers on the rebels that Dice has been not so subtly emphasizing in their artwork/videos... you can thank crazy-liberal Swedish culture for that political crap in a SW game).

Aaaand straight on the ignore list.

I don't think you understand what I said. Having been to Sweden and experienced their extremely liberal society and culture, where if you don't remotely agree with far-left feminist ideology you are labeled a bigot... I can very plainly see that spilling into this game. SW already has its heroines, I see this as a political encroachment and simply blatant social engineering and pandering, and basically just an attempt to make it more PC.

So in addition to failing to comprehend what I wrote it seems you just took it as some kind of affront on women. If I were to judge you on that alone I would say you're a PC lemming cuckold and a worthless tool with minimal education. But I won't, because that's too little information about you for me to personally write off whatever shit you might post on this forum.

[edit]
If you don't agree with my view, that's your prerogative, but your attitude with disagreement is complete garbage, and the fact you already got an equally worthless support post is sad.

Lmao, wow. You seriously need to get laid (and anyone else that would QQ about my posts for that matter).

Next thing you're going to be advocating the female models look like underage girls with the tit bounce ala Korean games, where sexual frustration is always at an all time high.

Anyway, I'm probably not going to garner much support for myself in this thread, it seems all the posts are fanboys vs the world.

Wutevs m80s, wutevs.

Hey now, don't you go labeling my laughter as a 'support post'. You clearly do not have enough information to make that assessment.

If it wasn't, then I apologize. That nerd just rustled my jimmies.

I'll take my leave here so that room remains for future detractors. Wouldn't want to hog all the fanboy spite to myself.

This guy apparently doesn't realize there are actual females on the development team, and maybe that factored.

Protip: If you put your foot in your mouth, might as well just own it rather than getting all teary eyed and calling people fanboys or whatever.

Alot of you guys wouldn't pay full price for a game day one no matter what the game was. There would always be a reason. Let's be honest about it. I've been a member here for years I see the same bullshit every time there's a new game released. Cheap is cheap, sorry but just calling it like it is. If a game is fun and i want it day 1 I buy it and give them full price, period. It's not that big a deal, life is too short to hold back on some enjoyment because i need the zomg steam sale for 5 bucks of i won't buy it. You guys wait till next year while those of us will have been enjoying it for that year. Excuse me origin dale

I agree with you up to a point. Almost every game these days has first day DLC. In other words you have pay extra on the first day to get the entire game. First day DLC is not bonus stuff. Its stuff they cut from the game to make an extra buck. Ya want to call me cheap fine, but I won't buy a game till I can get the entire game in one shot. That just tends to be game of the year edition or something similar and they tend to be marked down. I like to think of myself more as patient than cheap. Now that I think about it though, I haven't bought a "AAA" game in while since most games I have no interest in anymore. The only game I'm currently interested in is the new Deus EX but since it has first day DLC I will be waiting. I might get a couple copies of SW:B after I see the reviews and all the bugs have been fixed but it will not be a day one buy that's for sure. Not sure why anyone would preorder or first day buy any game from EA with their track record. And that's not being cheap. Its called having patience and not being EAs bitch.

And that's not being cheap. Its called having patience

exactly...I buy a good number of games on Day 1 because I'm really interested in that particular game or series but lately I've been buying them through Nvidia bundled codes...some people feel that you must pay full price on Day 1 for all titles which is silly...supporting developers and the industry as a whole would be a lot easier if every game was released in a finished state with very few performance or other issues

Alot of you guys wouldn't pay full price for a game day one no matter what the game was. There would always be a reason.

You say this like it is a bad thing.

Let's be honest about it. I've been a member here for years I see the same bullshit every time there's a new game released. Cheap is cheap, sorry but just calling it like it is.

Guess what different things are worth different prices to different people. It has nothing to do with being cheap.

Do you call cordcutters cheap? I mean they aren't paying for cable so they can't watch the newest show the night they air. Instead they wait for that bullshit service called Netflix where they can stream cheaper than you would pay for cable. Cheap is cheap afterall.

What about people who wait for paperbacks?

What about people who only buy used cars?

Um good for you I guess. You go on and enjoy it for the year. I don't think anyone is trying to stop you. Great..you will enjoy the game for the year...how you know this on a title that isn't released yet, I have no idea, but enjoy it.

Oh no while you are having fun for the year, I guess I will have to find other things to do. If only there were other choices. Maybe one day we will be so lucky that we will have more choices in our entertainment than we have time.

Seriously. Mother-effing Fallout 4 is upon us and even there you saw from day one of the announcement "Hope I can get it from StolenChineseCDKeys.com for five bucks otherwise not werth it I have backlogz LOL" . Its "everything sucks"... "everything's a reskin".. "every developer is Ubishit"

I'd lay money that if HL3 went up for preorder with insane Crysis3-on-steroids graphics you'd still have people going into fits about the price.

Again, how is this a bad thing? If I am not going to use something right now, why would I buy it? I don't understand this thought process when it comes to entertainment.

At some point creating a game for a platform has to be actually be worth it for the developer/publisher.

And guess what? As a consumer that isn't my concern. The only concern is do I want to pay what they are asking. If the answer is yes, I spend my money, but if the answer is no I don't.

for some reason certain people value games differently compared to all other products....when I'm buying a new plasma/OLED television, or car, computer hardware etc hell yes I'm going to look for the lowest price from a legitimate retailer...I even price shop for 'cheaper' items like Blu-ray's or HDMI cables...for some reason there is a small faction of people who hate it when people want to spend less on games (*DPI*) and who rant in every post...of course if he bought a game for less then it's OK but don't you dare try and spend less then him...it's OK if he hates Windows 10 and rants about it but don't rant about any other topic otherwise he will come out to scold you

Out of all the stupid shit to complain about in a star wars game. Star Wars is a saga full of thousands of different aliens and worlds, most of which you can't even tell the gender of, and you are bitching about women. Not only that, your bitching implies that you seem to think women in Star Wars aren't already commonplace, nor canon. If you want to blame anyone for putting women in Star Wars, blame George Lucas, not DICE. He did it first with Leia the not so helpless princess, then Padme Amidala, then Ahsoka Tanno, and a whole shit ton of others. Now that Disney owns it, they seem to be continuing the trend in Star Wars Rebels and Episode 7. DICE doesn't have to add them to make a political statement, they are there and have been since the beginning.

If you hate that, you are also going to hate the fact that the monster chrome storm trooper in Episode 7 is a woman... Gwendolyn Christie to be exact. You might know her better as Brienne of Tarth, the 6 and half foot tall blond Amazon woman from Game of Thrones.

Get over it.

I really can't wait for the beta to release. I played the Alpha, and it was a lot of fun. And this is coming from someone that has been burnt out on games for awhile...

Lol@all of this. ^^^^
Guess i struck a nerve.

Anyway, yes, you're one of the people i was referring too. Cheap is cheap. Enjoy BF a year from now for 10 bucks. Oh and have fun waiting for shit to come out on netflix while i watch it on release. I don't limit myself to either. I have cable and Netflix oh and Amazon prime. *gasp* Also, i do buy games on steam sales but only games i was sort of half interested with to start with. Anything i really wanted i already bought way before they were 10 bucks on steam. Oh and let me guess, the games that hit 50% off before the summer/xmas sale aren't cheap enough for you either. Amirite?

The only way to solve this female empowerment problem is to make female characters in games fully configurable. Want big ones? You got em, Want demure ones? you got them. Want ugly butch van dyke well, that is up to you...

I have to strongly agree. If there ever was a franchise that emphasized equality it is Star Wars. Complaining about a Star Wars game having strong female characters in it is plain... Well.. You know.

:)

I don't mind female strong characters and think there are plenty of great female roles to be had. Having said that I can't stand female roles shoehorned into a story aka "see I can do the same as a man". Let the character and story stand on its own. Great writing is agnostic to gender.

Yeah... no. People think it is ridiculous to pay $1-$2k on hardware and then think dropping $60 for a game is some how too expensive.

It would be like not driving your car unless gas was at a certain point. Or turning on your lights in electricity was too high.

You buy the fancy hardware to play games on it and $60 a game is not expensive. Some games people get pennies on the hour for entertainment.

PC gamers blow their wad on hardware then are cheap/straight up steal games for said hardware.

? lol hate to crap on your examples but people do exactly what your saying. Lots of guys i know and work with carpool because gas is to expensive to drive their own car (both to work and other places). And I go through my house turning off lights because electricity is to expensive to be turning lights on unless needed, hell during the day I don't turn lights on except the bathroom because it's bright enough to not warrant waisting the money for no good reason.

And ya I just spent $500 on a new video card, but that took a few months of saving and budgeting to make sure I can afford it. I can't afford to drop $60 on every game I want so either I have to pick and choose what games I want or deal hunt so I can afford more of them. And it's not like I'm broke, I happily work and get a healthy salary but I have priorities, I'd rather take my kids to the mountains or amusement park or my wife on a date night which all costs money, not to mention things like college funds and all the other bills doesn't leave me with gobs of spending cash. I don't defend piracy but I don't agree with paying whatever they charge. If I can save money so I can buy more or enjoy other things in life in damn well going to.

Some people have the patience to wait 2-3 months after a game releases, to score a better deal. Some people get wrapped up in the hype machine and need to shell out for the $60 game and $20 season pass. Doesn't matter what hardware they're running.

EDIT: Ragenrok nailed the point regarding priorities as well. Absolutely.

You bought a video card you couldn't afford then. Just like buying a car too expensive that you can't afford gas/insurance. Or a house you can't afford to power.

It costs millions to bring AAA games to market, $60-$80 isn't fucking much to ask. Not to mention the support people demand for years after release.

Your argument is flawed and excuse making. It makes ZERO sense.

He did it first with Leia the not so helpless princess, then Padme Amidala, then Ahsoka Tanno, and a whole shit ton of others. Now that Disney owns it, they seem to be continuing the trend in Star Wars Rebels and Episode 7

as far as the original 6 SW movies there really aren't a 'shit ton of others' as far as examples of strong women besides Leia and Padme (the Extended Universe is another story)...JJ Abrams and company look to be rectifying that with the new movies but that's probably in response to the current trend of strong female heroines in movies (Katniss in Hunger Games, the Divergent trilogy etc) and TV shows (Game of Thrones)...the new movies also are pushing minorities to the forefront...whether it's about being politically correct or just a sign of the times only JJ can answer

Who said I can't afford the video card? I budget and work my hobbies into a budget. As for buying expensive cars, it's all view point. I'll spend the extra on a good new car with a 6 year warranty so that I know for the next 6 years it won't break down and cost me thousands in repairs. Throwing money out the window when you don't need is a bad idea regardless of who your are or how much you make, that goes for everything from my power bill to video game purchases. For a good game that I will get tons of mileage out of your absolutely right $60 is worth it. With the news of starwars battlefront having no server browser i don't feel its worth $60 and just because dice or whoever makes it doesn't mean it should be treated as an AAA, being good makes it an AAA game.

so you like paying full price for everything?...good for you...I'm sure less then 1% of people are like you...you don't like deals or paying less, instead you prefer to pay more...great philosophy, keep up the good work

Ironic how some of you can spend upwards of thousands on your PCs, yet scavenge software deals that only cost a fraction of your computer cost at full price. lol

you do realize there's a middle ground right?...I realize forums are a breeding ground for exaggerating things to support your point of view but it's not just pay full price versus wait for it to go on sale on Steam for $5...I'll always pay full price for Dark Souls, Fallout, Elder Scrolls and a few others but with the recent influx of Nvidia/AMD bundled codes it's easy to get a game on Day 1 for less then half price...I paid $25 for Phantom Pain and around the same for Arkham Knight, Witcher 3, AC: Unity etc all through [H] users selling their game codes

I do the same for hardware. I don't discriminate when it comes to saving money. :)

I'm just busting your chops, I don't really care how you guys spend your money. After all, it's your money. If it's a legitimate purchase, then have at it!

Anyways, Star Wars.....
Can't wait to play the beta!

I have specific price points for everything. $60 for whatever internal reason I just balk at. The game has to be something I'm guaranteed to love and spend a lot of time with. Dark Souls 3 is a game I'll be pretty comfortable dropping $60 on. the length and quality of Dark Souls 2 sells me on it. Battlefront if the reviews are good is something I'll end up spending between $40-50. Likely about $40. I think its just a real world pricing/cost of living evaluation. Its kind of like going to a bar and getting hammered. $50 is the point at which youre getting unreasonable and get into "Party mode". I'm not a cheap person its just a personal evaluation of what things are worth to me.

My PC doesn't change very often. I spend around $1000 upgrading it every 3 or so years. Motherboard & processor is $300 on average, videocard about $300-500 Ram $100 sometimes a new harddrive-$100

You mean first 3 movies. There were quite a few women in the prequels and the Clone Wars TV show (Lucas still had control until 2012), almost all of them were Jedi and Padawans. You are right, many didn't have prominent acting roles, but they were present. Nevertheless, this info still completely contradicts grunwald's idea that the presence of women in the Star Wars militaries in this game is some liberal Swedish conspiracy. The trend started LONG before Disney, EA/DICE, or JJ Abrams EVER got a hold of the franchise. If you want to set a date for the trend, at the latest you could say 2002 (Episode II release), a full 10 years before DICE or Disney got ahold of it.

Fun fact, there were several female rebel starfighter pilots in the original 3 movies before Lucas cut them from the final cinema versions.

Here's one on the front lines assaulting the Death Star...

Liberal Swedish conspiracy to add female soldiers to the game? LMAO. Dumbest thing I've heard in a loooooong time.

That story is interesting, I bet it's a MPAA rating issue of some sort. I was watching this documentary on "The craft" which got an R-rating. The director appealed because they specifically followed every guideline. The MPAA stated no matter what the content was because it was teen girls doing witchcraft it was getting an R regardless.

My immediate thought was Mon Mothma she led the rebellion I'm actually surprised no one seems to remember that. She didn't have a lot of screen time but she was a big deal.
