Star Wars: Battlefront Reboot

All the Paid Youtubers are trying to hype this game up with the latest news but this thread hasn't seen a post in 7 days, i know there is a lot of OldSchool BF players on [H] so yeah...

GG DICE

even if this is a Battlefield re-skin in the Star Wars universe it actually could be pretty cool...as a Star Wars fan I'm looking forward to this game...from the trailers it looks like they got the feel of the movies down with the planets, characters, ships etc

With the loss of the server browser, I have zero interest in this game now.

Or there's just nothing to talk about until there's something playable. Like I won't start weeping into a pillow over lack of server browser until I actually play the game and actually am bothered by lack of server browser. That moment may never come. If it's hard to get in the same game with my friends then I'll bitch. Until then I'll evaluate their implementation without any assumptions based on previous games.

FWIW everyone on my BF4 friendslist that I've been playing with since BF3 and some since BFBC2 plan on at least trying out the beta next month.

Lastly, this isn't a BF game for BF vets. Anyone expecting it to be isn't being realistic. We won't see real BF action on a new engine and DX12/Vulkan until BF5

without a single player component and if the server browser is gone there's no reason for me to buy this game. I was looking forward to it as a huge star wars fan (I actively subscribe and play SWTOR) but there is not a reason to purchase the game. I still have a small hope that there will be a public beta to see how it works but at this point, the only way I may end up with this game is if I decide to buy the Battlefront Themed PS4 which is admittedly only for the Darth Vader artwork on the actual PS4 console.

The preorders probably already covered this game.

I personally don't mind random matches in World of Warships. I don't think I'll care here either. I was bummed about single player though!

I plan to purchase this game.

No server browser is a deal breaker. Truly a stupid move. I hope it blows up in their face.

We all have our tastes, but you'd have to be a fool to think the lack of a server browser is no big deal. If I am being thrown into a server with 150-160 ping I'd rather not play. Or select a lower ping option even if it is a map I don't like. Match making tends to be much more trial and error when it comes to finding a good server.

I wish more console games picked up on the concept of server browsers opposed to match making. I think it was Halo that popularized it?

Yeah, not having a server browser is a big mistake and cripples console potential.
Especially when the Battlefield series has it, same devs!!!!! What the hell?
But.... I will say this...
This game will be a big hit and will have many servers in many different locations. As long as that quick match thing pulls me into a server that is relatively close to me, I shouldn't have an issue.

Its not a Battlefield game.

But I say let's wait to see how it actually works in-game before squirting tears. It may not even matter, and not having the chore of looking through a list of servers to find a game may end up being a welcome change. Who knows?

Agreed, I won't tolerate high ping servers either, but let's see if there are maybe settings menu options for controlling which types of server to join, maximum ping, etc.

There have been enough games released without servers browsers to know that the experience generally always sucks balls. The obvious compromise was to have both an instant action button and a server browser, like the last four BF games, but its quite obvious that EA/DICE want to be able to dictate the entire online experience for end users.

I never said it was.

I'm just comparing two seperate game series from the same exact dev.

One has a server browser, and now the other does not.

And yeah, I'm not too worried about it.

From a console gaming perspective, it's almost expected with most multiplayer games to not have one.
Battlefield was one of if not the only exception.
Very few other MP video games on console, have a server browser.

The only thing I really hate about not having options in my control, is I'm hoping map times aren't extremely quick. That would piss me off.
Call of Duty map times seem like 5-8 minutes on average, which was ridiculous.(Back when I played cod on consoles).

Destiny
Call Of Duty
Diablo 3
and so on and so on, have zero server browsers...
but that doesn't stop us from playing either.

Is it the PC version as well that won't have server browsers ?
If so, then that's messed up.

There might be, but at that point you're essentially making a server browser. Just without the option to choose the specific one. Match making isn't about giving a lot of options. Although I suppose they can in some odd attempt to please us.

My main question is do the announcements refer to the PC version of just the console? If console then it is a non-event essentially.

I like the matchmaking option and game putting me only with people of my skills. That's why I won't end on a server where everyone knows the maps by heart, camps spawn points and knows all the secrets, so I won't last even 5 secs. I don't have time to play a lot, and I just want to have some fun with this game. And the matchmaking ability will do exactly that. All the "pro players" will level up quickly and move to different servers, while I will stay in the "casual part" of the fence.

Why is this skill based matchmaking garbage tolerated? Matching me up with players and forcing me to play with people I may not care to play with? That's like buying a brand new car and the dealer only letting drive on specific roads based on my driving record.

Lol. - pretty much let me rephrase for you

"I like star wars but I want to play a server browser game so I'm not going to play this game"

If you like Star Wars you know you are going to play it because it looks like an awesome Star Wars game. If you want to play a "server browser" game then there are lots of those already

For some of us forced matchmaking can outweigh anything else. I switched from COD to Battlefield due to Activision removing the option.

I would only settle for matchmaking if I had the same filter options. Let me select the modes, maps, player counts, and ping limits before matching me. I can't stand the playlist option. No way to select only the modes you like and no way to remove the maps you hate.

Actually...I'm been using the CSGO automatic match and pub finder for like 3 years? It works great. That said I have no faith in DICE whatsoever in this regard. I got conned into BF4 since premium is only $15 right now. I'll admit I'm having a ton of fun, but holy shit is battlelog garbage. Like, if you can get into a server great, fucking stay in it because you'll get a billion fucking bullshit errors trying to get into another one.

sad news.

There is nothing special about this. It is just a sticker on a fridge. Piece of junk.

I guess I'll give the beta a try, but it sure seems that it won't be worth the $60 price tag. Kids really want me to buy it day one, but I just can't see myself spending that much.

Alot of you guys wouldn't pay full price for a game day one no matter what the game was. There would always be a reason. Let's be honest about it. I've been a member here for years I see the same bullshit every time there's a new game released. Cheap is cheap, sorry but just calling it like it is. If a game is fun and i want it day 1 I buy it and give them full price, period. It's not that big a deal, life is too short to hold back on some enjoyment because i need the zomg steam sale for 5 bucks of i won't buy it. You guys wait till next year while those of us will have been enjoying it for that year. Excuse me origin dale

Seriously. Mother-effing Fallout 4 is upon us and even there you saw from day one of the announcement "Hope I can get it from StolenChineseCDKeys.com for five bucks otherwise not werth it I have backlogz LOL" . Its "everything sucks"... "everything's a reskin".. "every developer is Ubishit"

I'd lay money that if HL3 went up for preorder with insane Crysis3-on-steroids graphics you'd still have people going into fits about the price. At some point creating a game for a platform has to be actually be worth it for the developer/publisher.

And complaining that due to TF2 hats Valve is only interested in money-grabs (oh wow is that what businesses do??)

What you fail to realize in basically every one of these threads where you make the same comment over and over, is that it's a value proposition like with any other consumer product. It's only worth what people are willing to pay for it. So, likewise, a developer has to make a quality title for it to be "worth it" for the consumer to pay full price.

Personally I think we've seen too many fuckups on the PC to just blindly buy $60 titles anymore.

some games are worth full price no matter what- Dark Souls, Witcher, Fallout, Elder Scrolls for me...but so many AAA games are bundled with Nvidia cards lately so nothing wrong with paying half price or less through legit means...Phantom Pain, Arkham Knight, Witcher 3, Alien Isolation etc were all probably worth full price but due to Nvidia bundles (or AMD in the case of Isolation) I was able to snag a code and play Day 1 for cheap...is Battlefront an Nvidia sponsored game?...the Phantom Pain Nvidia promo ends on October 1st so something big has to be coming to replace it

The Star Wars Battlefront Beta will run from October 8th-12th on PC, PS4 and Xbox One, publisher EA has announced...this is an open beta and is thus available to all players. No need to sign up...the beta will be around 7GB on consoles and 11GB on PC via Origin...you can pre-load the beta on Origin at 9:00 am UK time Wednesday, October 7th...

thanks for the info. i'm excited!

Wow nice.. Open Beta.. EA is showing confidence in this game. Just like Konami and CD with week early reviews of MGS5 and W3 right :p

Always someone :p EA can do no good.

BTW you fell right into that LOL. But then again I gave you a softball.

early on I was thinking this had the potential to be the greatest MP game ever...now I'm on the fence...they nailed the Star Wars world, characters, audio etc and maybe that's enough but something also seems missing
