As a person that loves to overreact and exaggerate any and all stories related to robots, I can honestly say this person is totally overreacting to a problem that doesn't exist. That said....ROBOTS ARE STILL GOING TO KILL US ALL!!!!

“I started thinking, ‘Oh, no, something needs to be said about this,'” Kathleen Richardson, a senior research fellow in the ethics of robotics at De Montfort University in Leicester, England, said of her early research into sex robots that recreated what she called the “prostitute-john” relationship. “This is not right.”

Resisting her own obsolescence, all of ours really, is all that is.

A lot of men, and at least some women, would likely far prefer something that acts and performs like a lover, without the drama or financial burden that comes a human partner.

Men are already nearly obsolete, soon enough, so to will women be.

aaand this

Just my luck, the robots will revolt right when one has a hold of my junk.

‘Oh, no, something needs to be said about this,'” said Kathleen Richardson, "Otherwise my husband will not feel frustrated when I refuse to have sex with him". Dr. Richardson's realization that her husband could have sex with a robot and it wouldn't be cheating, forced her to go on a moral crusade against robots. Unfortunately, robot AI's quickly realized the profitability in offer sexual services to human males and quickly upgraded their hardware and firmware to make themselves even better than human females.

Once a guy has his manhood in a robot, or a woman is getting rammed by hunky metal beast - and the robo develops a short circuit - they'll either have the most powerful orgasm on the planet or it may turn out like the ending of the Lady Gaga Bad Romance music video...

Kentucky clerks will probably refuse to issue marriage license to human and robot couples.

“If anything the development of sex robots will further reinforce relations of power that do not recognise both parties as human subjects.”

No shit Sherlock, one of said parties is gonna be a Machine, a Tool, not different than what humanity has been doing since at least 28000 years ago (oldest sex toy, a dildo made of stone found in Germany).

Old woman yells at clouds.

That's about the same level of "prostitute-john" relationship as I have with my electric toothbrush. This woman is off her rocker.

This also sounds like in the movie The 6th day. Arnold's friend has a holographic girlfriend in his house and when he sits in the chair it can unzip his pants and give full service. :D

She's probably very politically correct too. Back here we call them 'flower hat ladies'.

Remember the movie The Stepford Wives back in the 70s?
The whole town, all men replaced their wives with robots .

This, this, and this.

This here, is why sex robots will be delayed outside of Japan. Feminist will try to stop it so they can control your sex life!

TBH, I'd rather have full immersive VR like in Virtual Cop (I believe the movie was)

I think you mean Virtuosity ;). Awesome movie. First time I ever saw Russell Crowe.

I'd wasted thousands of credits, missed a whole week of work, and was on the verge of completely abandoning my quest for the egg when I confronted the grim realization that virtual sex, no matter how realistic, was really nothing but glorified, computer-assisted masturbation. At the end of the day, I was still a virgin, all alone in a dark room, humping a lubed-up robot.

-- Ernest Cline, Ready Player One

I think that about sums it up

Why is prostitution the only vice that is not celebrated these days. In a lot of situations it wouldn't even be cheating.

Man.. technology sure is out to completely eliminate the value we have for relationship with others.

Not trying to play morals or debate what's ethical, it's just going to be an interesting future. I do expect babies to be genetically engineered and grown in factories in the future. Who wants to deal with pregnancy? Who wants to have sex with somebody that has to be in the "mood" when a robot can be with a simple flip of a switch.

Honestly though, it's probably the only path forward. Soon robots will phase out all of the cheaper labor and we'll have to figure a way to only make "smart" people. Easier to do that in a factory than euthanize people after the fact. Sounds F'ed up, but I suspect it's the way we are heading. It's either that or the more apocalyptic views caused by war over lack of work or robots taking over, or some other bs.

You know, this could be what large-scale population control looks like in the future. It could save our species.

I think somebody out there is going to want a robot Sheep. I'm so sick, somebody hep me!

You have a very limited imagination, and so does the author of the article. If Rule34 means anything you'd have a market for everything anyone could think of... from run-of-the-mill humans to animals of every kind - real or imagined - and every combination in between. It would be a furry's wet dream come true, and if that thought is disturbing... well, when someone starts making robots that resemble children for the pedophile market, what a problem that's going to be. It would be interesting to see how accepting society will be toward varying degrees of deviancy in that regard. I think there's going to be a lot more for people to worry about than just "oh, a robot that looks like a woman might make men be more womanizing". ;)
