If you have a spare 40 minutes, you really should watch this video.

I really don't mind if reviewers insert their politics into a review, but their own personal issues with the game beyond the game itself should not factor into the final score. I think ChristCenteredGamer is a good example of how it can be done, offering a "Game Score" that judges the game itself and a "Morality Score" that judges the game based on the moral values of the reviewer. A good example is Dying Light, reviewing the game at 88%, but scoring only 43% on morality due to the violence, language, and what is considered blaspheming to Christians.
Total Biscuit takes 10 minutes of discussion and adds an additional 30 minutes of blather.
Are there really that many gamers you take "professional" reviews seriously anymore? I haven't used a professional review as the basis for my game purchases in 20+ years. I'd rather just go to a few gaming forums and see what people are saying about a game.
I can't watch the video at work but I trust Steam ratings/reviews more than a review by gaming "professionals".
Well, there's like another side of that coin too. Because of a combination of like stereotypes, esports publicity, and recent very loud responses made by people claiming to be gamers to their world about how they feel, there are very few "professionals" who take gamers seriously and it's really hard to blame them for that even though its really easy to forget that most of them are just average people and there's really nothing at all behind the self-made title PLUS the ones that were making the most noise were people that would prolly have trouble getting along in normal society anyway with they way they present their thoughts about women unless those were just made up showboating comments (very likely given the show-and-tell nature of people who use the internet) that were not very serious, but that's hard to accept completely since some people are insane enough to make public death threats over video games of all things.

the reason there is a disconnect is quite simple $$$$ and the gaming media living in their own little world. Really wish [H] did some game reviews back in the [H]ardgaming days cause it is ever so difficult to wade through the bullshite.
I know I'm pointing this out again because I just posted, but I swear people have become more retarded since they read the title and start assuming things. Especially when their reply is so cliched and contrived.

Game journalism should be ignored in general, IMO. It's all trash.
I miss reading Gamepro magazines....
you actually had time to watch a video? you are clearly a superior human and your comments and baseless judgements show that you are as dense as a solar core.
I only read/watch reviews by Jim Sterling these days. He's honest about things, including that he scores based on how he enjoyed the game. Reading a review he may sing praises about different parts but ultimately if its just not fun to play (which is a personal opinion, but that's how reviews work.) he will score it as such.
He does also critique on the industry as a whole. Things like preorder culture and on disc dlc, he is against and open about it. He's also fully independent now. He runs off of patreon donations and discloses exactly how he received the copy of his game. It's those sort of little things that I like. Even if I disagree on his opinion of a game, I don't mind knowing his opinion.
