Both versions of MGS V coming to Steam.

I can do that but why should I have to which is pita since it plugged into back of my usb port on the floor? No other game gives me that issue?

mine is wireless, other games are smart enough to know when the controller is off.

Help me understand this. I basically killed everyone in the base where Kaz is in the first mission. Then I died maybe 3-4 times due to the special soldiers that show up. Then finally, I ran on my horse and hit the LZ. So it took maybe about 53 minutes and I get a B rank with a Chicken moniker. Dafuq!

What's funny is that I've been going full stealth, maybe killing like one or two guys and I still end up getting B rank. I don't think the scoring system makes a whole lot of sense.

I am at like mission 12 or something and never heard about this or was told without reading online about it.

The thing that bugs me is that when you're doing side-ops it'd be nice to just use the helicopter to go from one area to the others without going to the ACC every time.

I never knew about the box fast travel either until this thread.

Also, when you go back to ACC it says you will lose mission status beyond the last checkpoint. How often does the game save / when does it trigger as being a "checkpoint"? I swear sometimes I have gone back to the ACC after clearing a base or doing some other random tasks and it doesn't save my progress.

That's a first-world problem if I ever heard one.

And to be honest I wouldn't worry about mission scores - you get to re-do them later anyway, with better loadouts and the secondary objectives unlocked instead of "???." That's not to say it isn't awesome when you do things like take out the base comms and find out it was an objective

^^ this

don't know if it's a bug or supposed to work like this but I keep getting Side-Ops missions repeated...not the same type (like extract Prisoner 1, 2 etc) but the exact same one...it's already checked off but it shows up again later

I think the scoring is also bugged...one Main mission I know for sure I cleared without using Reflex Mode or triggering any alarms but I didn't get any of those Bonus points

I found that it's 'better' to go straight to the ACC from within the Menu...if you get extracted by chopper and then go to the ACC it costs some GMP...if you press ESC and then 'Return to ACC' it doesn't cost anything...just make sure that the game saves your last mission progress...I usually complete a Mission and then wait for the Save icon to appear and then go directly to ACC...GMP is plentiful in the game but it doesn't hurt to save a few coins

Konami has issued an urgent warning to Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain players after the discovery of a bug that is corrupting save files...the issue occurs if you bring along your sniper buddy Quiet on two specific missions...to avoid any chance of save corruption, do not bring Quiet as a buddy on Mission 29 or Mission 42.

Konami has warned the issue affects all versions of the game- PC, PlayStation 3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One

Picked this up. Very good game. But definitely not as good at The Witcher 3. TW3 will be game of the year, followed very closely by MGS V.

Scoring in this game is wacky indeed. Completion time is weighed higher than anything else, which is kind of insane. Granted, if you can finish a mission quickly and not get detected, then you are rightfully bad-ass. Again, don't worry about the rankings, just progress in the game, get your MB staff churning out fun toys, and then once you run out of things to do, it's cool to go back and redo all the set piece missions out there.

Not sure either, but I keep getting the target practice ones at MB showing up as "new" and it bugs me to no end. Actually, any "new" indicator in the iDroid interface really gets my OCD going and I need to figure out what it is. ;):(

Thanks for that warning with the corrupt save files.

Also I highly recommend doing the Legandary Gunsmith side ops as soon as they're available for you. There are 3 of them, and after completion of the 3rd you can fully customize your weapons. Like mix/match and unlocked accessories on any weapon you have unlocked. Even if you have a base sniper rifle unlocked but not the suppressed version, if you unlock weapon customization then you can put a suppressor on it that you have from a different unlock. Mix/match optics and barrels as well, plus a bunch of camo paint jobs.

This helped me out big time as I've been waiting to get a tranq sniper with a suppressor, only have the non suppressed version unlocked so I was able to use that as the base and put a suppressor on it through the new customization option.

so pissed that the steam version doesnt support DS4 natively... so pissed

Yes it does. I only started playing on the 3rd so it's possible that it was patched in between the 1st and the 3rd. But it does indeed support the DS4 natively.

edit - Unless Windows 10 supports the DS4 natively?

I hate those target practice missions...is there a way of figuring out where the targets are located or do you need to run around the entire platform looking for them?

Also DS4windows emulator will make your PC think your DS4 is a Xbox controller and it will work fine. Touchpad, rumble, Bluetooth, all work. Just may have to customize a profile for a minute or two to make everything work. Should be set by default though.

the Animal Conservation Platform is pretty slick...reminds me of Jurassic Park for some reason...maybe a dinosaur will pop in before the end of the game :p

I saw that in a video for "10 things you have to do at MotherBase". The video got me to purchase it right there. The attention to detail in this game is awesome and I didn't realize there was an entire MotherBase side game of leveling/resources. I loved that type of thing in the AC:BlackFlag (upgrading the ship) game as it really made the open-world / side-missions have a point.

I don't think I even purchased the Animal Conservation Platform...normally you choose which platforms to build but this one was given to me via a cutscene/radio message by Miller...I was actually ignoring the animal extractions for awhile because I didn't see any point to it but after the new platform was built it got me interested again

Maybe it's still early in the game for me but the Mother Base platforms don't seem to have any real purpose. Just a tall structure with a bunch of stairs/ladders/pipes to climb around on and none of the doors are operational.

I did find some Rough Diamonds on the R&D platform, though, for some reason.

There are a lot of rough diamonds all over all the platforms. Also go to the medical platform and go to like the second floorish area and walk around till you find a door that opens. Go in and go through one more door inside to trigger a cool cut scene that has important plot elements.

Also you can use the cardboard box to fast travel from platform to platform, as others recently pointed out here

Oh and you can choke and interrogate your men so they tell you locations of diamonds on base.

I thought all the Side-Op missions were optional/non-critical but I just received an important yellow highlighted one (Huey extraction)...the game really is massive in scope...although it doesn't have tons of maps, the game seems huge because of all the stuff you get to do...I'm only up to Main Mission 10 but it seems like I've been playing a long time...anyone controlling the Mother Base staff manually?...I'm just letting the game control everything but with all the fights breaking out etc I'm thinking about manually choosing where everyone goes etc

I found when they first introduce the Intel and Medical platforms, they don't seem to move any staff over to those from your existing pool, so I did that manually. Otherwise, not so much, they seem to get put where they need to automatically.

There are a few "critical" side ops.

On another note, just did main mission 18 and goddamn it was incredible.... Really was. Won't spoil anything of course. Nailed it too, got an S rank on it. Took me 45 mins.

You only need to sort your people when a new type of platform is made, all the other times the auto sort works very well.
Apparently there are various cut scenes that occur on MB. Sometimes the game will force you to go back to MB just to show you something, but it looks like if you stumble across an area early on your own, it will force said cut scene too.
This game is just HUGE. It's built like an MMO and has the same type of mission structure. I can't stop playing. My OCD is fed.

Is anyone kind of bummed that you can't go inside any of the structures at MB? Thought it would be cool to walk into a lab and see people doing R&D. Maybe even a shooting range to try out new stuff.

I was. Admittedly, I'm not very far into the game, so maybe this will change... but it seems like there isn't really anything to do there. Beat up a few of your guys, make them salute you, have a birthday party. Exciting stuff...

does that "retcon" have to unlock? Because I saw someone mention it, I go to the platform, find the only open door I can, go in and there's a construction sign up and I can't go down the hallway or anything, just have to go back out.

Yeah, same here.
Except for that retcon on the Medical platform. WOW, that was crazy.

went looking for this on the Medical platform...couldn't find it...the whole place is a maze of circling staircases that go nowhere except to another helicopter landing pad...only thing I found so far in Medical was Quiet in her cell

Maybe after you get Quiet? I found it on my first trip back after I got her, but I never looked up there before that, so I don't know. I found that room because I was looking for Quiet and got lost. What a surprise.

Just mentioned that like 5 posts back...lol. Yeah, it is a bit of a bummer.

Did you find the locked RED door that beeps at you? It's on the same floor(EDIT:no its not, its 3rd floor), but somewhere on the other side.

I have quiet but I don't have her on my "team" yet, if that's what you mean.

Maybe it's not the same room you're talking about? I just found a room with a door that "opens" when you go near it (IE the lock is green instead of red) but it's got construction work inside so you can only go into the first room and there's nothing there.

Anyone else get creeped out by the Skull fights? Maybe I'm just a wuss but going up against them always makes me anxious as hell lol. I'm pretty sure I'd die of a heart attack if Kojima ever got to finish that horror game of his.

As anyone played around with the saluting box yet? I saw it in a video, looks hilarious.

Thats it.
To the right of that sign is a door with a green light, right? Press the button next to it to open it.

Can you save manually, or is it checkpoint save, or you don't get any saves during the missions?

I just found a HUGE retcon in the Medical Bay. HUGE.
MASSIVE spoiler, so I'm not even gonna say, just run around till you find an open door.
(There's a locked one (RED) and an open one (GREEN))

finally found that secret area...had to YouTube it to find the exact location, it was hard to find for me because it was really hard to see the door with the bright sun...that was a fantastic cutscene...seems like a pretty huge part of the story so I don't know why they hid it away in a secret area like that

** you need to complete Side-Ops mission 51 in order to trigger the secret area

I've got 40 hours into the game and I'm only on main mission 19, says in total im 25% complete. Just did a fun boss fight. It was pretty damn hard until I figured out what to do. I have done a lot of side ops though, almost all that are available to me so far. They're a great way to build your bond with quiet or other buddies. My play style has evolved to going full stealth on main missions and assaulting on a lot of side ops to up the fun level and get some variation. Plus it probably helps the bond with quiet as well since she's shooting a lot more.
