Crossover 434k & 494k OCN Thread Ignore the 12ms delay result from the first post since it was not obtained with accurate testing methodology.

Unlike the majority of 4k displays, these Crossovers do not use LED PWM Dimming or are Flicker free which is great since PWM makes some people suffer from health issues like eyestrain and/or headaches, and ruins motion clarity as well. The inclusion of Adaptive/Free-Sync is awesome (assuming it works with the overdrive unlike a few of the first Free-Sync monitors) since screen tearing ruins the image and motion clarity and because regular V-Sync adds lag and stutter. Unfortunately these can not be easily returned and exchanged easily and lack proper warranties, but Square Trade warranties are cheap have been confirmed to work with Korean monitors ordered from eBay.

Example 1 & Philips BDM4065UC with 240hz PWM versus the Samsung S27A750D without (DC dimming).

Adaptive/Free Sync confirmation in the Crossover forums. There are no updates planned for the Crossover 44k+404k which are semi-glossy VA panels which are PWM/Flicker Free unlike the Philips BDM4065UC which uses the same TP Vision panel and coating. The Wasabi Mango UHD 420 also supports Adaptive Sync and is PWM free, but it is not supposed to have good colour presets while Crossover advertises that these come calibrated.

How's input lag on these things? Or at least how's the input lag on the 404k as it may be similar to that.

EDIT: Sorry just checked out the OCN post. 12ms in DP

Keep in mind the OP of that thread tested with the god awful stop-watch method, so the input-lag is a tad less than confirmed. Luckily for us, NCX was nice enough to order one and test for us.

This is such an exciting prospect as a TV and not just a monitor. I bought a Sony W800B for its low input-lag and PWM-free backlight, but was extremely disappointed by its mediocre gamut coverage and very poor white uniformity (the entire top right corner is 500 kelvins warmer than the rest of the screen). If this has low input-lag and excellent color presets like the rest of the Crossover monitors, then I will almost certainly pick one up when I can. Now all we need is for AMD to make a decent low-powered GPU with HEVC decoding, or Freesync to work with Nvidia cards; my HTPC will be happy.

Holy fuck I was already trying to buy a crossover 494k! I won a auction twice from dream seller, one for $810 and $850 but this bastard sets a $1060 reserve everytime. Unfortunately I lost the first one I bid on for $860 and that one didn't have a reserve. I really may just get amd cards

Finally sounds like perfection. IPS/Freesync/PWM-free/40"+ (43") I'll be waiting for confirmation on the Freesync working.

This sounds like my kind of monitor. As a owner of a Seiki 39' UHD and a 290, this sounds like the perfect screen.

Its strange these cite DisplayPort 1.2, given that they're UHD and FreeSync compatible. Shouldn't it be 1.2a at very least? I'd figure DP 1.3 would be established by now on a product like this..

Aside from that, it seems like an excellent panel. Can't really find much fault in either of them, from the specs alone (I suppose IGZO would have been superior to even AH-IPS, but I guess it would skyrocket the price?). Nice they managed to include 10 bit /1.07 Billion colors on the AH-IPS display, UHD , FreeSync, PWM-free etc... I wonder how well it can be overclocked as well as what the price will be. Hope the scaler is quality and the panels are top grade. Wish they'd offer some 30-something inch displays with similar specs, though. Overall, looks like a great find.

Just got ae refurb xb270hu for -586.00

Will be staying away from korean monitors for a long time

The people who are buying this monitor probably have a different usage for this display than the people who are buying the Acer. For productivity/workflow, a 40+ inch 4k display is just going to be a lot better for that than a 27 inch 1440p screen. If we're talking strictly gaming then the Acer is the way to go.

It arrived in perfect condition, it's semi-glossy and has a 20ms delay which is not a affected by the Bypass and Response Time settings. Free Sync is listed in the menu and it also has a Colour Compensation feature, but I have not measured the screen uniformity to see how well it works. I have to buy a mini-dp to dp adapter to set it to 4k on my macbook or measure the colours on my PC at 1440p since I have a 560 ti, but it shouldn't change anything. I was away all week so I didn't get to start using it until last night, and I used my time to go Flawless (Thorn & Fellwinters Lie free team) in Destiny's Trials of Osiris (Trials of Fellwinter's Lie, Final Round and Thorn Users is more accurate) before the weekly reset. Colour streaking and smearing is both minimal and normal for modern AHVA/IPS/PLS, and setting the Response Time setting (Off, Low, Middle and High) to Middle introduces obvious overshoot ghosting. I'll put all of the raw data into my review linked in the first post and add pictures later.

what about true 1080p@120hz without dropping frames? where is the nirvana of 4k monitors?

Hey guys, been reading up on the thread, and putting in my order on ebay currently for a 494k since I hear they MAY have the new boards. I bought a Samsung 65JS8500 TV nearly a month ago due to the ratings it got on rtings, however since this is an actual monitor I'm looking forward to testing it out to see if it exceeds my TV.

Any advice you guys can give on this while I wait? It'll help put my mind at ease for the moment.

Thanks for the detailed review, NCX... I'm close to pulling the trigger on the 434k, but I'm wondering if you could measure the total length from the outside edges of each leg of the stand. I know the total width of the monitor is ~38" - I'm just trying to figure out if the leg placement will allow for it to fit on my Varidesk sit/stand setup, which is about 34" wide at the point where the monitor would sit. Based on all the pics out there, I think I'll be fine, but it would be great to have an absolute answer from someone who has the monitor. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

What about input lag ? Glow ? Ghosting ? Colors ?
Thank you

Read the review linked in first post, it is for the 43" inch but the 49" inch should not be too different. Anyway, this is a better solution then buying a TV.

Why do you think " this is a better solution then buying a TV " ?? Input lag is 20 ms, on my Samsung JU 6500, is about 25 ms, that's not a huge difference.
The contrast is poor. " The 434k's main issue is its violet colour dominance "
IPS vs VA ....

I did not enjoy using the 434K as a desktop monitor since I found myself craning my neck to see everything from distances less than 121cm/4ft away.
So is that a dealbreaker for desktop use?
If the screen were curved would that cure it?
Is the top height a problem?

It's subjective and it largely depends on how close one wants to sit. 90cm/3ft seems fine, but I still prefer using dual 27" 1440p monitors in order to avoid re-sizing windows, re-sizing text and looking up and down frequently.

The 494k has the least amount of glow I have ever seen on any ips. They are flicker free (Samsung is not), hdmi 2.0 and dp. It has freesync and the input lag doesn't feel too far off from my asus vg23ah (read ncx review on it). Without a doubt these are better than a TV, I chose this over one of those Samsung tvs. Oh and colors are amazing. At this point the only way I could be happier is if it had gsync (or amd made better cards)

I know its mentioned that Samsung TV's are PWM, but I can't find any actual information sources to cite for it. So far comparing my JS8500 to the 434, the colors gamut range is the exact same, I'm testing them together for a few days before deciding on which to send back.

Obviously I can see why people go w/ this TV (Crossover series) as its much cheaper than getting an actual namebrand TV. I might return for the 494k and test though I hear differences are minimal, I'd like to probably increase it a bit. If you have any info on the current models having PWM you could link me to I'd greatly appreciate it, as there are others looking for the same.

Thanks, Tgrove
I would give it a try, but i have one more question
What about the contrast?
It seems to be pretty poor, compared to my Samsung JU6550

It really does only have minor glow so the contrast is better than you would think IMO. I bought one of these 6500k white led for the back and it makes a huge difference.

They already ran ncx out of there for talking about pwm lmao. I'm glad I was patient because I almost bit and I'm way happier with an actual monitor. If amd had better cards then I would get 2 because I really want to try out freesync (especially now that you can lower the range)
