34" 21:9 UltraWide Displays (3440x1440) - LG UM95/UM65 & Dell U3415W

I've got the AOC 3440x1440 (same panel as the LG UM95 apparently). I also have a 980Ti (gigabyte G1) but am still running windows 7.
Experiencing issues with DP 1.2. Did you update your cable/drivers?
I just checked, expecting to switch it over to DP 1.2 and see if it worked, but to my surprise, 1.2 was already enabled. Apparently, I've been running DP 1.2 for months. I must have enabled it and forgot about it. I run Win8.1.
Can't be. Win7 is perfect! j/k LOL

I see the freesync is available now in Aus but couldn't wait any longer for the G-Sync version so I bought the 32" 4K Benq for a second monitor.

Any news or hands on impressions about S34E790C?
I have found only a few reviews and all says it's superb monitor, though what about this video? Maybe S34E790C owners could give an opinion?

Hey all. I'm putting together a z170 itx rig and decided I should go all out and pick up a new display as well. I'm planning on running an itx sized gtx970 so 3440x1440 will probably be too much to handle with high settings for games. Primary use is not for gaming but I do like to pick up pc exclusives from time to time.
29" is definately a bit too skinny for me so I'm looking at the 34s. Do I just pick up a 34um67 with the 1080 resolution to save some cash? (find them in the low 400s). I'm leaning towards the um95 just for extra desktop space, better ppi and a bit more future proofing. If I do go 1440 can you run games at 2560x1080 and scale them up without it looking horrible? I'm already going over budget on the PC and even if I wanted a 980 or sli I'm not going to have the space/power to do so.

I would get the 3440x1440 model, especially if the primary use isn't for gaming as that extra space on the desktop will be very nice to have.
Unfortunately I can't comment on scaling as I never ran mine below the native resolution, but at one point I had a GTX 970 and most games ran fine at 3440x1440. If you do have to scale back to 2560x1080, I wouldn't think that it would look awful. I'd much rather have the higher resolution for day to day use.

I use a 970. You can still toggle some high setting for most games and get decent frame rates. Also, in my experince, you can run 2560*1080 on a 3440*1440 monitor without any problems.
A monitor is not like a gfx card for most people. I change monitors every 5-7 years. I change gpus ever 1-2 years. Get the monitor you want now and upgrade your gpu when you want to.
Thanks guys! just needed a push off the edge. I see refurbs and used ones in the 600-650 range. I assume that's the best price I am going to find? There are a couple of deals on new ones but even with extra 10-15% off they are still high 7s - mid 8s.
A new um95 can be had for about $850-$900 so the prices you are quoting are the best you can probably get used or refurbished. Be careful when buying used or refurbished.
I agree the um95 was and is over priced. Many of the monitors that are out are over priced IMO but what are you going to do? The manufacturers have us over a barrel. We can vote with our wallets but the industry seems to not care. Just have to keep looking for deals and share info.

And there's a risk with voting with your wallet that by not buying these, companies will interpret that as unpopular and stop production... and then we get nothing.
It's a seller's market for these niche cases.
Damn that was a good deal. Is the dell better than the LG though? I thought they used the same panel but I may have gotten mixed up During my research. I'm still on the hunt (I missed the one I was looking at for 620 on the bay yesterday) so if there are some better models for around the same cost (new vs new) I'd be interested to take a look.

Well I had both and as far as image quality I thought they were about the same, but I preferred the Dell just because I thought the curve added a bit of immersion. Plus Dell's warranty service is about 100x better than LG's if you need a replacement monitor. Just saying, if you can find the Dell for the same price (or less) it's a no-brainer IMO.
I would also consider the Samsung S34E790C, but I haven't seen it go below $900 yet and it's been out for months. The Dell has been getting the best sale prices.
I just think these 34" ultrawide monitors are overpriced for the most part...they shouldn't be $900-$1000 when you can get 40" 4K displays for the same price. The ultrawides should be at most $700, IMO (except for the Acer Predator since it's high Hz and G-Sync).
Gotcha, that is what I assumed but wanted to be sure I didn't miss a model. I like the idea of dual monitor style options without the bezels right in the middle so I dont mind a slight premium for that luxury but 1k is too much. I'm with you on the 700 range though. If they were 699-750 retail, deals and specials would push them down to low 6/5 which I think is good for the size as long as the panel quality is there. Premium for the curve is expected as well but again should not be so much. Now that I know the curved dell was going for 700 I will expand my search a bit. if I can get a curved 34" 3440x1440 to my door for less than 7 I'll be happy. Thanks again

Every major monitor vendor (HP, Acer, Dell, LG, and so forth) all have 34" models in their lineup. Not since 27's has a size been so quickly drawn up by so many vendors all at once. That's a good sign.

I would definitely trade up to a 39" or larger 21:9 if it was of good quality.

I have had this monitor since its release and really enjoy it. I came from a ZR30w which I liked, but wanted to try a curved, wider screen, higher resolution display and will never go back. I had the non-curved LG 34" 3440X1440 monitor, but sent it back due to backlight bleed and a few dead pixels. I am sure the price has dropped considerably since I bought mine, but when paired with enough GPU horsepower, it really shines. I will be the first to admit that I am not super sensitive to font distortion, uniformity issue and such, so YMMV, but overall I really like the display.

Massdrop just dropped a 34" LG 3440x1440. It's basically the 34UM95 but without Thunderbolt connectivity. If 15 people join the drop, the price will be $699. There are already 3 people committed and there are 11 days left, so I'm sure it'll happen.
This might be your chance if you're not set on one of the curved models.

That's a good price. I paid $999 for mine when it first came out. About time they started dropping the price on these units. I wonder if they are about to release a new model to replace it? Holiday season isn't far off.
I own the Dell and LG curved 34 inch displays. I find myself only using the Dell because the LG has a very annoying bug where the screen turns to snow if the computer goes to sleep or gets rebooted. To get the LG to work again I have to physically flip the switch off and on behind he monitor. This gets old very fast. The blacks do look slightly better on the LG, but it's hardly noticeable. Definitely not worth the $400 premium over the Dell.
