Cmon now Face, you know you need to post what other gear your using lol...

I see some pro amps at the bottom, but whats the pre-amp and dac in the system?

Some Crown DSP amps to compensate for the OB woofers, Wyred 4 Sound DAC-2 and STP-SE preamp. Horn amps are Manley Mahi.

frag the bottom amps the Manleys are where the sound quality is at.

How...how do you get this to happen. Hell, one of my cats has discovered that he can squeeze beneath the monitors and get on top of the receiver (which sits under my center monitor) so he can enjoy a nice, warm cave.

That amp looks nice--a part of me want to get into tube stuff, and wants this particular one, but I can't really justify getting something like this because I barely use headphones around the house.

My cat likes locking out my smart card.

Denon AHD2000 I had Zynsonix do a recable on plus furutech plug. JBL LSR305 monitors with Outlaw Audio M8 for the low end. Source is just my Creative ZXR but plan on doing something external later on.

All these Denons... you guys need to MarkL mod them. Makes a pretty big difference for a couple bucks. Still one of my favorite cans. After owning a pair for what feels like forever, mine broke :(. I've got the headband held together with a zip tie. I need to find a better solution. I found some D2000 scraps on Ebay. $280 for a D2000 with bad drivers, but Lawton wood cups and an a pure sound v2 cable. That's somewhere around $400 in goods, a damn good deal (and it gets my denns a new house). But the condition looks iffy...

Didn't do MarkL mod but Zynsonix did dynamat the ear cups. After having stock cables and moving to awesome XEV with furutech connector and dynamat ear cups it's night and day better.

looks like my photos aren't working here anymore. why not post again? :)

I've got some Denon's too :)

I'm so torn. The guy said he will take $250 for it. There are a few small dings to the wood (wondering if maybe I can clean it up) on one of the cups around the edge. Other than that, the wood looks good.

My thought is, dropping $250 on these puts me half way to a TH-600, which is supposed to be a refined and much better D2000 sound. I can't help but think I'd be better off just dropping my Denns on the cheap (~$100), and buying a used TH-600 for ~$400. End cost is nearly the same. I think the woodied Denns would look better, but at the end of the day I care a lot more about what sounds better.

You can always woody the TH-600 ;) I thought my TH-600 was a pretty nice step-up from my D2000.

Fostex TH-900 in its new Pelican Case that I borrowed the spartan idea from head-fi :D

I got something very special in the mail today :D

Fostex TH-600, with lots of goodies. Level 1 Lawton w/ angle pads, cocobolo cups by Martin Custom Audio, and modded removable cable with Hifiman SMC connectors. These things sound remarkable. Everything I loved in my Denons, but much more refined. And they are gorgeous.

Oh my, those turned out absolutely gorgeous - congratulations man. I'd love to give them a listen someday - you going to be in LA anytime soon? :p

I wish. Finally leaving NY next year, but heading back to Chicago. Trading shitty weather for (slightly less) shitty weather.

A better question is, you planning to visit home any time soon? :p

I much preferred the D2000 to the TH-600. The treble peaks on the Fostex stabbed my ears.

They both have very sibilant highs, but I really don't have an issue with them. I'm a straight up treble head, I've always liked bright cans. What I'm liking most about these though is that the mids seem much improved. Both cans have a very obvious V-shaped sound signature, but I felt the Denons mids were a lot more recessed. I consider neither can to be a good all-arounder. There are plenty of things that I don't like to listen to on these (which was even more true for the Denons). They are particularly unforgiving with poor recordings. But for the right stuff, they sound remarkable.

Just picked up some ISO Acoustic stands.. holy smokes what a difference in clarity. Also grabbed an Outlaw Audio M8 subwoofer which I really love. Cables are all Mogomi.

My living room rack and setup...pics might be a tad big. Deftech STLs, Parasound P5, A23, a server for tunes and movies, Onkyo Receiver that will eventually handle surround.

Finally got the wires under control and my PC A/V gear set up the way I want. :)

Pair of PSB Imagine XB bookshelf speakers
SVS SB-2000 subwoofer
Emotiva XDA-2 dac & UPA-200 amp

Just got my speakers up. Miss the warmness of my vintage receiver on my headphones but for neutral listening it's pretty great.

Nice looking monitors! For a long time, I was dead set on getting a pair of Emotivas. The only reason I ended up going with BX8's instead is because I managed to snag a pair for $250 and just couldn't pass at that price.

updated the "somewhat" portable rig. added clarity feather dac, cayin c5, and jvc ha-sz2000's

how do you like the JVC's?

Actually still breaking them in but they are the bass head cans that people say they are. They do need some eq'ing (and amping) but they hit frequencies that my Beyers bloated on.

Nice Shield portable. I still use and love mine. Those JVCs are supposed to slam the bass. Nice stuff!
