This Laptop Has Bugs

how did they even find enough to eat and survive long enough to molt and grow bigger in there?
They just eat one another?

Insects are attracted to the smell of insect waste, they crawl in, get devoured, then pooped out, then more critters go crawling in because of the smell.

That's horrifying.... how does that even happen?

LoL.. Never lived in a run down apartment or tenement that has a cock roach problem, have we?
I can see it happening.

On a related note not involving cock roaches or computers I can relate a bug story.

I worked at a Ford dealership up in Livingston TX back in the 90's .
Some of the cars on the lot would end up in a back lot grass field, for excess storage inventory.

I had to go out and find out why one of them wouldn't start after a salesman had gone
to retrieve it.
Long story short. Diagnosed no fuel pump activation.
Reason. Fuel pump relay under the hood was not closing contacts.
Reason for that, the plastic enclosure was packed solid with red fire ants. I mean
SOLID.
For some reason they are attracted to ozone, is the theory. It happens with
telephone wire boxes too, etc.

I guess the lesson here is. Don't park cars out in fields or leave laptop on table
in a cock roach infested apartment. Bring a can of RAID.

wonder what kind of bugs those were....was hard to tell with the video quality.

looked like they might be bedbugs to me. those things can move fast when they want to and that would be a very good hiding spot for them if the laptop was kept in the bedroom.

Gotta say, not as grossed out as I would be if they were spiders instead... although that'd be more squeamish.

Although I've never lived in a place that has had cockroaches... EVER, so maybe there's something to say about being ignorant of them.

I've had friends that dealt with apartments and bed bugs they don't move that fast those are roaches!

One day I wondered why my basement computers started having flakey wireless. Picked up the wireless router that was on the cement floor, and realized it had been colonized by ants. They were everywhere. Nice and warm for them. The vacuum cleaner fed well that day.

It now sits in a bowl that sits inside a water-filled pie plate.

Just get rid of the ants?!?

Dealt with that a few times. Started taking a trash bag, spraying it with Raid and putting the laptop in. Then leaving it outside overnight. No more roaches.

Ugh. Sickening though.

The smell may be part of it, but it's more likely that they go, because it's dark and warm. I worked in a restaurant that was infested with roaches, and they ruined the dishwasher circuit board...whether they ate it or just shit/pissed on it until it quit working, I don't know...but that was gross.

I used to see that kind of crap all the time when I worked in shops doing hardware repairs. There were only a couple of seriously horrendous cases a month, but it happened more frequently than I'd have liked.

I've seen all kinds of weird shit working on computers and printers. I once saw an Epson printer that has a paper clip covered in what appeared to be ear wax caught in the mechanism. I saw an Mac that probably had 10x as many insects and insect parts in it as that laptop in the video.

I worked with a guy that picked his ear with a paper clip, so ear wax sounds plausible.

Hey, you work in tech long enough, this sort of thing happens.

I was repairing a laptop (15.6" full size one) on my lap because the bench was full, and lifted the mainboard out and the same damn thing happened... only they crawled out onto my pants and my chair.

needless to say, I charged the customer extra. eventually it got to the point where I just told customers with infested machines that I simply won't repair them.

I happened to be in a friend's game store when he was about to put a modchip in an old Playstation so the owner could play the expensive imports he sold. He popped it open and it was just like that, if not worse. Man it was creepy.

That sounds horrifying.

I had trouble eating for a few hours. The musky, dusty smell is what topped the whole experience...

Not the creepy crawlies near your junk?
That would have made me run out the house and start a fire.

Oh trust me, the roaches on m'parts was not a good experience, but now every time I smell that 'cokroachy' smell, I feel the urge to empty the contents of my stomach. Even talking about it is making me queasy now...

Noted. I'll try that next time ants get into my gadgets.

i used to work at a pawnshop in NYC, and we would buy electronic equipment . and the moment we smelled the roach shit smell handed that shit right back to them with a whole lotta nope nope..

then they would deposit said item on the street out front of the building and next joker would bring it in acting as if it was his. after 2-3rd time i'd go out with a hammer and whack it a few times to reduce its resale value

I'm lucky not to know what a 'roachy' smell is. We don't have roaches.

This is how to get your computer returned in pieces in a trash bag 101. I started out right refusing to work on infested machines or machines from heavy smokers years ago. You want to live disgusting? Go buy a new computer when it breaks then.

Reminds me of a customers MicroATX case that was in my office a month or so ago, fuckers were everywhere in that thing, there were at least 20 or more in his 2.5" multi-memory card reader, and another who knows scattered about the rest of the case.

I had to break down the system down to the chassis as I could not get rid of the bastards, and roaches were still coming out from under the raised motherboard tray, which unfortunately was not removable, so I bought a can of Raid branded spray foam, and sealed off all the gaps that went under said motherboard tray.

After that, for the next week or two, I saw random roaches in our office.

Wow. They value their items so little they just abandon them? Or maybe they're all stolen?

Very true.
Fire ants would get into the contacts of the relay of a AC unit and burn them up.
We had to replace the relays in it every couple years in southern Alabama. Fire ant central.

most of the time the stuff was ancient anyway. or in most cases when we did fire it up
one of the channels in the receiver was burnt out which immediately makes me believe
that someone else tossed it and physically was in good condition so they figured they'd try their luck at a quick 20 bux

I had a friend with a keyboard that was actually worse than that. I was helping him move, noticed something move under the keys. His place wasn't dirty but the ancient apartment complex he lived at had a roach problem and he found a bug now and then. We figured one had just gotten stuck in there.

It was fortunate that I had the RAID handy. As soon as I popped a key off those little fuckers swarmed out.

Spiders are needed here. The classic debugging tool. I often find spiders or webs inside client computers. Especially those on the floor.

Funny how often there is a pile of Woodlice shells sitting at the bottom of the case where the spider has been feasting. Which shows the spider is actually protecting the client's computer. :D

I definitely get little spiders in my PCs. There's really no way you're going to keep spiders out of your house, unless you constantly spray. I figure as long as they're not too big, live and let live :D

I love spiders. I put them to work in my house. Their job is to remove the woodlice as they enter the house. If you look under the bath it is like Cambodia's Killing Fields under there with all the woodlice carcases!
