Looking at purchasing an m.2 evo used. Would save me ~$23. I don't mind spending the $23 if it means I have to to get my warranty. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with this. Will they just honor the original warranty by looking at total use?

When looking at the wording of the warranty, it looks like they do not warrant used SSDs.

SAMSUNG warrants to the purchaser of the Product in its original sealed packaging ("You”) that the Product is free from defects in material and workmanship, subject to the conditions stated herein, for THE SHORTER OF : (I) THE LIMITED WARRANTY PERIOD, WHICH DURATION IS SPECIFIED IN SECTION B OF THIS AGREEMENT, BEGINNING ON THE DATE THE PRODUCT WAS PURCHASED IN ITS ORIGINAL SEALED PACKAGING; OR (II) THE PERIOD ENDING ON THE DATE WHEN THE SSD HAS EXCEEDED ITS TBW (TOTAL BYTES WRITTEN) THRESHOLD AS MAY BE INDICATED BY SAMSUNG’S MAGICIAN SOFTWARE (FOR SPECIFIC INFORMATION ON THIS THRESHOLD, PLEASE REFER TO THE DATA SHEET FOR YOUR PARTICULAR SSD PRODUCT, WHICH IS AVAILABLE AT

I've never done a warranty claim with Samsung, but if it's anything like Seagate/WD they don't ask for a receipt (anyone who expects a person to hold on to a receipt for 3-5 years is dumb), they have you enter the model and serial numbers to see if it's still under warranty.

Receipt is required to get the full warranty length from the drive. If the drive is sitting on the shelf for 6 months to a year, then you are short that amount of warranty time.

I had to furnish a receipt for one of my WD Black drives since the warranty was up according to the drive manufacture date but not by my purchase date.

I just warrantied a 850 PRO SSD a few months ago, they required the receipt.

Take a photo of the receipt with your smartphone, rename it to something useful, move it to a receipts folder that is automatically uploaded to google drive / dropbox, delete them en masse from phone occasionally, and forget about it until/unless you need it.

I think the last time I did a RMA was Seagate, but it could have been WD. The warranty was just up if using the date on the label, by some weeks, so I first registered the drive, putting a more recent purchase date (without caring about the receipt as I didn't want to look for it, even though I'm pretty sure I got it), then did the RMA, and was never asked for the receipt.

Yeah digital receipts are as easy to acquire as logging into whatever account where you made the purchase. Just make accounts wherever you buy things, don't checkout as a guest and try to shop at reputable stores.
