Win 7 home premium $79.99 @ egg

Seems like a lot of money for an operating system that is 3 versions and almost 6 years old.

A small price to pay not to have to run a tablet OS on your desktop.

Keep in mind that, although this way is cheaper, you will be going through the built in MS store to update to 8.1 (takes a few hours), and THEN updating to 10 (also takes a while).

I have a windows 8 license/disk and I downloaded 8.1 from MS and directly installed 8.1 using my 8 key.

I suspect you can directly upgrade from 8 too, but I don't know.

isn't win 10 free by now?

Why yes it is but you need a valid Win7 or Win8 license. In addition, some people, me included, would rather stay with Windows 7 and may not have a valid license or be buying for a new build.

For me the key advantage of win 7 over win 10 is media center which MS dropped.

Windows 7 Pro is still the best OS (for me) I won't leave it until I have to. You can have your WIN 8 & 10. No Thanks!

I think the Win10 Upgrader app is 8.1 only.

I got Windows 8.0 download from MS for $15 from a link in this forum. It was maybe 4 weeks after release. By October Windows 10 might be cheaper than a pumpkin (which it might resemble by then too)
