First official Skylake Review!!

Yep, I think my 4.7ghz 4790k will be good for awhile it looks like, though chipset support for native NVE and USB C and PCI-E 4.0 may tempt me....

I would personally wait for more reviews, the fp performance doesn't from synthetics absolutely does not line up with fp-dependent gaming benchmarks. Something is definitely off here.

Isn't the original Korean?

Personally I'll wait for some real reviews. Nothing I've seen yet qualifies.

Absolutely right you are, it is Korean. The site is pretty well known, but of course we're all going to wait to see what [H] says tomorrow.

If this is accurate it looks like my old Sandy Bridge will stay on for the moment.

First of all, Skylake is slower than current chips? I call NUTS on that. Also, where are the overclocking results?

I hope this is all just fake or immature motherboards/drivers/ES chips, etc.

erm.. not sure where you're getting that. The first results graph shows an average improvement of 9% across 17 different benchies compared to 4790k.

I wonder if the names 6600K and 6700K are references to the old Q6000 series. Probably not, but neat anyway.

I think there was a gaming benchmark in there that showed it being slower.

Interesting charts either way. A slightly higher TDP than the 4790K despite same base clock / lower boost clock and a shrink down to 14nm. If true it shows just how much of these damn chips are GPU these days.

When is the embargo lifted? Is it at midnight or at some specific time GMT?

Check the link. Skylake looks slower in gaming. Even Wccftech discussd it.

Interesting. I'll wait for some OC results though. If the reports of 5ghz on air are remotely true, it might still be a pretty nice bump. If not, it looks like going X99 with a 5820k is the best route for people on SB and below if they want to upgrade.

This is fairly disappointing when we consider how many people use their PC for gaming. Hoping they overclock well.

What are you expecting? Games are bottlenecked by GPU ( new games ).

I'm hoping that 1.312v in the cpu-z screenshot isn't stock voltage...

Looks like thief and hitman see big gains from the extra cache on the 5775c while dirt cares more about raw clock speed

Rest of the games look fairly gpu limited but despite that skylake still falls well behind in bioshock & sleeping dogs for some reason
Maybe a gpu driver optimization will help?

Maybe broadwell is what gamers should be looking to for the L4 128m cache http://translate.googleusercontent....6.html&usg=ALkJrhjb_9vix2907GvIu4MiP2iv2a_S1Q

All I will say is there is definitely some bullshit in that article.

This is reassuring. I frankly don't see how average IPC gain can go hand in hand with average drop in frames.

Im thinking its driver related
some of the tests in which there is a drop are totally gpu bottlnecked
look at sleeping dogs
skylake has a 2fps change from 3.6ghz to 4.2ghz

Even it's 100% bullshit, let's not kid ourselves - the enthusiast desktop market segment has been extremely stagnant ever since Sandy Bridge. Unless this chip can overclock like a beast (5+GHz on air), there's absolutely no reason to upgrade if all you do is play games.

Guessing it's memory related. They probably wernt using fast enough DDR4 to make up for DDR3s lower cas.

ram speed affects cpu performance
it only improves cpu performance significantly when the cpu cache isnt big enough
so in cpu limited tests where 5775c does well thanks to its l4 cache these are the tests where faster ram would help skylake
ram speed doesnt affect performance when gpu limited

Yet another amateurish gaming performance review for CPUs. All games included are identical in technological type. No games tested where CPU performance actually matters.

Not the first time [H] reviewers have hinted at something better than expected... Lets cross our fingers.

Yes and in others Broadwell with L4 is slower than Haswell as same clock.
